Besides Douglas KOing Tyson, what do u consider to be the top few best under-dog wins in boxing history.
I'm not talking about combacks or anything... just to clarify.
Leon Sphinks defeating Muhamad Ali for the heavy weight title should be better than Baldo beating Zab.
i met a homeless guy about a month ago who told me his uncle had bet him a million dollars ali would beat spinks and he took the bet and his uncle never paid up. he finished the story by saying "i could be rich right now..."
I thought it was 40-1
It ended at 42:1 or so but opened at 25:1 because everybody believed it was a sure thing. Entirely too much betting on Tyson's side so bookies kept moving the line to cover their losses better. Bookies 1 Public 0.
Was just doing some research, baldomir-judah was about 12:1 odds. I knew they were big but I thought they were closer to 8:1.
It still pales in comparison as if memory serves me right Douglas was a 25:1 dog.I thought it was 40-1
how can you call Liston-Clay the biggest upset around considering what Ali went on to do. Baldomir is probably going to lose his next fight just like Douglas lost his next fight. That's why Tyson-Douglas still stands as the biggest upset ever...BECAUSE DOUGLAS SUCKED. And Baldomir most likely sucks. Ali was undefeated when he fought Liston so how is that some huge upset? BALDOMIR HAS NINE LOSSES. NINE. That's more than any elite fighter ever comes close to having in a career. Was Taylor beating Hopkins a huge upset? Fuck no.Because no one gave Clay a chance in hell to win that fight he was a huge underdog some boxing writers were saying that this was indecent that they did not want to see a guy beat to death in the ring. There was a huge stigma about Liston he was a man who took care of buisness and this trash talken young punck was pissing off the wrong guy.
would u guys consider (now here me out here) Oscar de la hoyas victory over Ricardo Mayorga a big upset? After a 2 year layoff, i didn't have him winning that fight. some thought there was no way he could lose though...
OR is DLH's first win over JCC considered a big upset?
naseem vs barrera
i dont know what odds you was getting in america for this fight but in britain barrera was getting 15-1 to beat naz at one point. consider one of the biggest upsets in my eyes
your a fuckin disgrace you idiiot the mans gave his all for over 10years and just because he hasnt fought pacquiao yet you call him a chicken
get a fuckin grip you dumbass
LOL, I just thought that pic was funny. I got mad respect for Barrera, I don't want to see a rematch with Pacquiao. Barrera's been one of my fave fighters over the last decade, I just really like that pic :D
Of course. I challenge anyone to find a better example of an underdog pulling off the win. Keep in mind, Judah was the undisputed welterweight champ and had obliterated Spinks (who was about #6 on the p4p lists), and Baldomir roughed Judah up IN JUDAH'S HOMETOWN!!!! That's insane when you put it all together.
Are you really surprised that Zab had a mental lapse and lost before the biggest fight of his life? Did you forget who we were talking about here. Zab melting down and losing a big fight is never surprising, I almost even expect it. That is what Zab does. It wasn't all that big of a shock. I would have to go with Douglas knocking out Tyson.

Jim Braddock was a great story...."Cinderella Man"
Rocky Graziano against Zale...."Somebody Up There Likes Me"
Somebody mentioned Baldomir...that's a good underdog story, too.
Dempsey against Willard...it was a huge upset at the time.
Leon Spinks against Ali....Spinks was a part of the fabled 1976 Olympic team and beat a living legend after just 7 pro fights; he was 6-0-1 when he met Ali for the title.
Lloyd Honeyghan against Donald Curry....the Cobra was undefeated at the time and considered the next Sugar Ray Leonard.
That's all for now; but there are plenty of stories out there.
Hmmm.....Rahman/Lewis was kind of a bad night for the bookies.
As far as betting fans go, a lot of Hearns fans lost their frikken mortgage on the first Leonard fight.
That sucks. But its tough to see the flaws of your favorite fighter somtimes. I have favorite fighters, but i don't allow myself to not see their errors. Cause if you allow yourself to not see their errors, then when they lose its very shocking. I root for my favorite fighters and i don't like to point out their flaws but every fighter has them.
