Bernard Hopkins confides: "I'm bored as hell"
By DHB (July 7, 2006)
Bernard Hopkins has been retired a mere 3 weeks and already he is complaining about being bored. Three weeks ago Hopkins ended his career on a high note by dominating Antonio Tarver through 12 rounds. You'd think with all the free time after retirement, Hopkins would be having too much fun to be bored, but that is not the case.
In a recent interview by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, Hopkins confides he is bored as hell.
Hopkins tells ESPN from his home in Deleware: "I'm bored as hell. I'm sitting here in this kitchen and I am bored as hell.
I've been retired three weeks and I am bored as hell. I can't stand still. I'm either mowing the lawn, washing the car or picking weeds."
Hopkins admits he is keeping busy and staying fit, telling ESPN: "I cannot shut my body down from being so active. I'll get sick. I'll go out and run. That's in me. Maybe it will wear off in 10 years. I've been programmed to be like this for so many years, so it will take time for me to settle down.

picking weeds... lol, that's funny stuff.. yeah, Hopkins has enough of a hand in boxing outside the ring (i.e. Golden Boy East, appearances) that i think it'll be enough for him to keep himself out of the ring and stay retired.
its prolly true.. hes a gym rat.. practically lives there.. its in his best interest if he retires
Agreed. But the best thing he can do is train his stable of fighters. If he can give them an fraction of the skill he had, he can build a nice team ova there. The sparring he does for them is invaluable.
of course B-hop is bored, he is made for boxing thats all he does, after his performance agaisnt tarver theres no one at lightheavy who can beat him, hell if george foreman can fight as an old man and win hopkins should just kick everyones ass at LHW for the next 2-5 years he can do it lmao
If he is so bored, why not sort out one last fight with Calzaghe? Frank Warren is talking about a super fight planned for Joe, I wonder could this be it or is it with Winky??
That would be something special if Hopkins does stay retired since so very few ever do for real. It sure would be interesting for him to fight more though. All the possible matchups out there... :)
Damn it, it's like I said.
There's no reason for him to retire, and I believe he could fight untill he's 45 or 46. I'd like to see someone bet against him. lol.

if he does come out of retirement a fight with RJJ would be nice but how much money will be offered to both the fighters questioning their maketability as fighters! and the next best thing to do is fight DOnald HOskins!
its sad, seeing this one time legend of the ring, reduced to mowing and raking his lawn in his free time.
The guys life was boxing, and without boxing he's got no life. there is nothing he'd rather be doing. Hopefully he continues to fight non-professionally and stays with the game of boxing until he's merchants age.
i would really love to see him commentate. he is a very likeable guy. Very friendly for a guy thats done hard time. He should take stewards position when he goes out. him, lewis, and tyson should share the position
I wish Hopkins would train me.
I hope he stays retired from fighting, though.
With that said, part of me does kind of want to see him fight Winky.
I know alot people, myself included, have said that it would be boring, but I kind of want to see it.
yup hes already hinting and he'll be even fresher after this rest he i say one more 2 more weeks and start training, but whos left to fight roy its not worth it... tarver look like easy work.. calzaghe maybe, i thinks thats a hard fight i could be wrong, winky would be a good fight for him.
How can you not like the man after reading that, he sounds very respectable. I dont want to see him in the ring again though, I dont want to see him lose. Would love to see him as a trainer though, possibley a commentator occasionaly.
It sounds like they are both very possible because its clear his heart is in the game.
