Jim Lampley was in a bar on Beale St. after the fight here in Memphis and told people there (including a local sports talk radio host who disclosed this on the air yesterday) that he thought Winky won the fight, then, perhaps realizing that he needed to be more PC, retracted a bit and said it was close, but he'd pick Winky if he had to pick a winner. He did not, however, say he thought it was a draw.
So, is his broadcasting just an HBO-mandated act? I thought it was geniune Lamps, but for him to say this is encouraging that the guy does have a brain and knows he is not telling it like it is. He's a great actor, apparently...though everyone knows the truth.
wow, doesnt get much more official or legit than that.... case closed, since it was said in a bar, witnessed by an unknown radio dj....
yeah thats some funny shit.
yes, the truth comes from an internet poster claiming he heard a DJ , claiming he heard lampley in a bar... thats credible!!!
I work with this "dj" and his story was corroborated by his and my boss, the program director at the station, Sports 56 WHBQ in Memphis, by the way.
I'm just glad the truth is coming out.

like when guys tell the truth moron, guys actually think those ugly girls are cute dummy. Thats why they are in disgust when they wake up with them
leave the club at 2 with a 10 and wake up at 10 with a 2....... :D
Lampley's got my dream job, and overall, I think he does pretty good. They do have to push their fighters, but they generally do it with class. Sean O'Grady is by far my favorite broadcaster, though. He was a former champ, and he tells it like it is. I had the fight as a draw, but if I had to pick, I would've said Taylor won the fight. (And I was for Winky, and had money on him with several people). There were some rounds that had a clear winner, but many of the rounds were very close. I don't think anyone can honestly say either guy was robbed. It was a great fight, so they need to just do it again. I thought Winky stole a couple rounds, or I would've had Taylor 116-112. Like I said, a rematch is the only way to settle this...
Even if Lampley thought that Winky won, what does that prove? It's his opinion, just like you have yours and I have mine.
I thought Taylor won the fight.

yes, you're 100% right, no drunk guy has ever lied to a chic...
like when guys tell a girl she's the hottest chic in the club....

Seriously alot of people say their true feelings more openly when they are drunk..........But they also lie their ass off to get laid.

Of Course Jim Lamply knows boxing...as does Larry Merchant. They've been covering it for years and were very good at verbalizing what they saw and what they thought..which is why HBO hired them.
Now, here's the thing; and while I don't work for HBO and have no inside track with HBO's office politics, I have worked in broadcasting in one shape or another for the better part of the last 16 years; and it's pretty much the same everywhere...so I don't think what I'm about to say is incorrect.
Lamply and Merchant work for HBO which is the same network that has added the young Jermain Taylor to their stable of fighters. HBO makes money through subscriptions. The better the product they present, the more people tell their cable office to sign them up for however much it costs to add HBO to their cable box, which equals more money for HBO. If HBO has the best boxers for their boxing broadcast, people who have to choose between them and Shotime are going to do what? Go with the station which has the best fighters, so every time Taylor or anyone in HBO's stable fight, it is Lamply's and Merchant's job to make them seem like the greatest thing since white-sliced bread.
In an ideal world, Lamply and Merchant would be able to call the fight EXACTLY as they see it...in an ideal world. However, this is the world of ratings and paychecks we're talking about. Lamply and Merchant know what's going on in a fight; but they also know who butters their bread and what they are getting paid to do.....PIMP.
Brodcasting, whether it's radio or TV or Cable TV or whatever...is full of whores and pimps. They get paid to sell a product, not necessarily tell the truth.
Just remember that and keep your eyes open and your mind independently strong; and everything will be alright.
He probably makes some decnt bread and gets to go to alot of fights free........I would give it a shot if they would stick their hand up my ass too. :D
there is nothing wrong with a healthy love for boxing and fisting.
he sure is, he likes having hbo's hand crammed up his ass.
