Is Jim Lampley A Nuthugger?

Well the punchstat numbers were severly flawed. Alot of Taylors shots partially landed, but they werent counted on punchstat. lol shut up

I agree i forgive lampley somewhat, he calls fights sort of old school style as if you (the audience) were listening to it on the radio instead of TV. shit i'd prefer to listen to him call it than sit through Lennox Lewis' commentary. but hbo does bias their shit though. Omg yes, Lennox may have been a great fighter but he's soo bad at commentary. Hopefully he'll get better in time :P :)

When Taylor was hitting Winky's gloves Lampley would get excited and say ohh what a combination by Taylor.

I think george 4man should comentate on more fights, hes so cool.

I was about to log on and start this same exact thread. I know Lampley isn't supposed to be the expert and call everything correctly. His job is to hype up the fight. Hell, I'll admit I love Lampley's hype. Some of my favs: "What a great, great fight." "Biggest punch of the fight!!!!" --> every fight "And that's.......AMAZING!" -> Tarver knocking out Roy "OHHHHH...OHHHH..WHAT A HUGE RIGHT HAND" --> B-hop on Trinidad With all that said, I felt he's been terrible the last 3 Taylor fights. The hype machine is obviously behind Taylor but he makes it so blatant. Since Hopkins/Taylor 1 he has been screaming and overhyping Taylor "connects" and "combinations" that have been blocked and/or slipped. It's so obvious it's sickening. Does he really think we're that stupid? Taylor hit a ton of gloves and arms today but I have to sit through Lampley screaming "Now 4 punches land in a row for Taylor, 5, 6, now 7 straight punches!!!" All glove, all blocked, all overhyped all night long. Come on. I know Taylor is a star but cut it out. This is one of the main reasons I dislike Taylor. The HBO hype machine is sickening. He's good enough to do it without the hype.

Yeah You all can complain about Jim Lampley all night but guess what? He the best commentator around or i should say boxing commentator. Lewis is sorry and has anyone else noticed old Larry doesnt say as much as he used to?

It's just tough to listen to "BIG RIGHT HAND FROM TAYLOR" when it clearly is blocked or slipped. haha yep. When Taylor threw Punches that didin't land on the face but landed on the gloves, and sounded loud....he'd start screaming. I was actually thinking whether or not Bernard could be a color commentator while they were showing the replay before the fight. He knows his shit, and he's not full if it. I think with a little voice coaching and whatnot he'd be a great commentator. yeah...maybe some porcelain veneers and a speech therapist. he'd be pretty good. he sure as hell wouldn't say some cheerleader bullshit. i can definitely see him calling it like it is.

whithout reading what was written and just going by the headline of the thread...........IS LAMPLEY A NUTHUGGER????? YES AND FUCKING HELL YES!!! the whole HBO are the biggest dick riders i've ever seen and heard. whenever it's their fighter doing anything they blow it up like it's the best they've ever seen. all the time they'll call shots for one fighter and not the other, they let a lot slip by when it's the opponent, unless their fighter is getting his ass handed to him. lampley will call out shots like something is actually happening when it's the HBO fighter, but the combo of the opponent gets nothing but silenced and swept under the rug as they talk about stats. i've seen it tons of times where lampley will be screaming so and so lands a huge shot, and actually the shot totally missed, and then when the other guy lands he starts asking manny something or larry, or he starts spitting out stats. if they would call it straight it would make things much more enjoyable, IMHO. i will give Lampely credit he is by far the most talented commentator, probably ever, but he is HBO bias to the extreme. it's like the only time he gives any real credit is when he has too, or it's abundantly obvious that he's being onesided.

I didn't have any bias going into this fight, but I thought it was odd how the commentators, including lampley, were favoring Wright so much throughout the fight. Then I thought Steward is normally in there with them commentating and now he's training the other guy and in his corner. They were probably trying to overly avoid appearing biased for Taylor for that reason. you mean favoring taylor correct?

Jim definitely exaggerates the action. A lot of Taylor's blows (especially in the early going) were hitting nothing but gloves and forearms. I wanted to laugh when he stutter stepped seeing the final punch stats. Didn't look like what he called during the fight. It's not like Winky was totally ignored, but he clearly favored Taylor. The "Winky knows he has to answer back because he's being strafed by big shots" was getting somewhat repetitive as well.

Yeah, I felt the same way. He went with the House Fighter, the young HBO, big future stud. I told everyone in my house that, "there guys Lampley again, showing his bias". He gave Taylor all the credit, even when Winky was doing great, he would be giving props to Taylor
