I cant even remember a fight where I honestly didnt know who to pick at all. One minute I think Winky and then the next Taylor. One minute I think it will be close and then the next I think it will be a blowout.
One guy just made a thread about Winky being overrated and I honestly believe that he is a guy who is on the borderline of that and this fight will decide it. He's a very good, solid fighter who has a hard style to matchup with but people do talk to great about him now. That act like he always dominates when that is not true at all. Most of his fights are always close, even against bums. Just look at the Soliman fight and mostly any fight before that.
He got the big break against Mosley but Shane was much smaller and Shane was pretty much on the downside of his career by then. Thats not a big win like everyone thinks. Shane had just lost twice to Forrest, then looked like shit agaisnt Raul Marquez, and mostly everyone had Shane losing to Oscar. I remember when people talked about that fight before and after, they talked about 2 guys on the downside of there career who are past there primes.
Besides the Vargas fight, which was "half way" decent, when was the last time Shane had any kind of good performance? After Winky, he went the distance with Cruz and Estrada. Shane was finished when Vernon hit him with that big right hand in there 1st fight and hasnt been much since. Also, in the 2nd fight against Winky, he still almost won.
Winky killed Tito but Tito was also washed up by then, just coming out of a long retirment, and everyone also knew he was very flawed at that time. I remember when Winky beat Candelo but he didnt look that good and a writer wrote, "Winky has been called underrated so long that he's starting to look overrated".
Then you have Taylor, who is a kid with alot of talent but most of the time he looks uncoordinated and nothing like what a pound for pound fighter should look like. He's inconsistent and alot of times seems like he's dumb in the ring. He overjabs alot, he's mechanicale, and you can see almost all of his punches coming because he telegraphs everything. Taylor also came along at the perfect time when everyone at 160 sucks and Hopkins was no way near the same guy he was 5 years ago when he killed Tito, destroyed Holmes, and manhandled Echols. Taylor wouldnt have won a round against that Hopkins and we all know that.
The bottom line is that I think both of these guys are supremely talented but they also could be overrated. This fight should prove one of them as being extremley ovverated and one guy will get alot of fame but the sad part is that the guy who gets alot of fame, may still be overrated because of what I just wrote. On the other hand they could both be All Time Greats. Its hard to say. The bad part is I think we may still not know the answer to anything after Saturday because as I said, Winky doesnt blow anyone away, and Taylor is uncoordianted and wont blow a top guy away, so I think we could actually see another Taylor vs Hopkins, with basically no seperation between them.
That is one of the best posts i've seen here in a while BUT I see something definetly wrong with the sport when you have "fans" talking like that. I think it's BS that boxing fans expect robberies to happen and it shows just how corrupt the sport of boxing is. Everyone's in it for just the money, nothing else.
thanks, and i agree with you about the sport being F'd up and it's all about money. sad to say that seems to be what life is about too.
but the reason i look at it like that is because i bet on boxing as well as help handicap fights for docsports.com. i'm not the handicapper for the site but i am able to put in my two cents here and there.
thanks for the kudos though, peace.
I am going with Taylor. Winky has a counterpunchers mentality and Taylor has a great jab and can create openings. If Taylor had not tired against Hopkins, those fights were heading for blowouts. Winky doesn't have the mental or physical strength of Hopkins though and Taylor should have more energy late in the fight that he did against Hopkins.
Taylor needs a conditioning coach worse than anyone in boxing. If he has got that problem fixed, and shame on his team if they haven't made that a top priority, Winky will be knocked around the ring like a billiard ball and will be busy on his defense all night long.
If Taylor gets tired early again, it will be a close 12 round decision and can go either way. Taylor appears to have the magic touch with getting the benefit of the doubt from the judges, so I'd still pick Taylor but it will be a controversial decision.
For the sport, I hope Taylor wins. Winky is a dud and doesn't excite the fans. Taylor is the future. A well conditioned Taylor can make this an easy fight. But if Winky pulls it off, all credit to him.
I Believe That This Fight Depends On How Taylor Chooses To Fight. If He Comes Out Guns Blazing And Putting Constant Pressure Working The Body And Wearing Winky Down He Will Win, But If He Chooses To Box Then Winky Will Outpoint Him. Jermain Needs To Keep A Lot Of Pressure On Him. I Think That This Will Be A Boring Fight, But Who Knows?
winky will do a clinic dis saturday.. throwing jabs at will, remember tito?
tito was fat at 160. Tito didnt exactly seem to put all of his effort into dat fight either. by the 3rd round tito was just fighting to finish the fight...not to win
It should be an interesting fight.Especially now that Taylor's stock has apparently risen since hops schooling of Tarver.Im rooting for my man Jermain! But im predicting a victory for Winky.
I'm backing Taylor, and I genuinely think he will win (I don't think this is quite a pick'em fight, but then I picked Tarver to beat Hopkins so what do I know!).
Its just his extra strength and size that I think will do for Wright.
UD 116-112 or something closer.
unpredictable indeed! this is a pick'em kind of fight. there are good points and iffy points on each fighter.
it's going to be a tough fight, and i think it's going to be even tougher for winky. boxing wise yes, but more so political.
boxing wise they're damn near equal give or take a bit here and there, but taylor is HBO's cash cow. there is more money to be made with taylor than there is with winky.
network thinking here :
1: taylor is more exciting to watch
2: taylor has an olympic background
3: taylor is going to be boxing longer than winky/ more money to be made
4: hbo has invested more money in taylor than they have winky
5: taylor is and has been more marketable then winky
6: hbo wants to get their money back and then some.........
i like winky but these are some of the reasons why i think taylor is going to win, and why i'm going to pick taylor to win, outside of actually fighting.
but i don't care either way, i just want to see a great performance by the winner, either way.
but i think taylor takes the first fight...........rematch already set and in the works......
i dont know either after the hopkins vs tarver, i put 200 on taylor with confidence, but i forgot that styles make fights so that may cost me, i really dont know who is going to win
is that a bet? ill take that if ur interested just PM me

I just dont see how Taylor can beat Winky, Taylor dont hit as hard as Tito dont believe the hype, Hopkins took shots from Taylor and didnt fight as tight as he fought Tito Taylor couldnt KO Joppy. Winky has a decent chin and great defense and boxes great in angles his foot work is excellent unlike Taylor who to me just seems off balance all the time for some odd reason. Winky has quicker hands than Taylor. I think Winky will win in a good fight Taylor will fight and fight but Winky has better ring generalship and foot work to win.
With all that being said, Im going with Taylor. I think he is more talented if he puts it all together and Winky has alot of lulls during fights where he lets guys get back into it or he just doesnt do much.
Thats pretty much how I see it playing out.
Both fighters are talented, both fighters are overrated. "Winky" can be boring at times while Taylor can be very green at times still. They're both good fighters with solid skills and good jabs. I just see Wright winning a unanimous decision in much the same way that he did against his previous opponets. Stalking and backing them down with the jab.
With all that being said, Im going with Taylor. I think he is more talented if he puts it all together and Winky has alot of lulls during fights where he lets guys get back into it or he just doesnt do much. I still dont see Taylor as having that Super Star potential, though. Something is missing. He could get it one day and maybe now with Manny but I dont see it right now at all
