Warren/Calzaghe better make offer of a lifetime!

Calzaghe, in contrast, has consistently and skillfuly avoided the top opponents in his own weight class, with the exceptions of Robin Reid - a fight Calzaghe almost lost - and Lacy - who was horribly overrated after a couple of quick knockouts and whose style suited Calzaghe's perfectly. The obvious opponent for him to fight today would be Mike Kessler, as Eastman and Taylor were Hopkins opvious opponents more recently. Will Calzaghe step up to the challenge this time? Very good. So who exactly in his weight class has he avoided? Ottke? Aye, that was Calzaghe running was that. I'd like to see Calzaghe fight Kessler. It'd be a nice warm up before a top class fighter.

So do you agree with what I said about making Bernard a huge offer or not? (Weather it is a good fight for Nard or not is not my point here-Im strictly speaking from Joe's side at what they should do) If he could get Hopkins to fight him on all his own temrs, yes of course that would be a good move for him. But it's negotiating tactics like that that got him into this "I'd better start cementing a legacy right now" state that he's in now. It's unrealistic, and won't happen. When Bernard Hopkins was 34 years old what did his resume look like-answer this Boze? If I was a betting man which I am I would bet you didnt even know who Bernard Hopkins was when he was 34, am I right? The first time I saw Hopkins was when he fought Roy in 1993. But Hopkins got off to a much slower start with his career because he was in prison, and blossomed late. He had 28 fights under his belt at 34. Calzaghe's had 41. His brittle hands and his hand speed are not traits that will see him fight effectivly into his late 30s. He's got a few good years left, and the very notion in your first post clearly illustrates that he needs to be very active and in marquee fights to cement a 'great' legacy. BTW-who did you pick to win that fight...ya know the one with Joe Calzaghe and the green one dimensional momentum-less Jeff LAcy? Who did you like in that fight? I picked Lacy. So did a lot of people. That doesn't really have a lot to do with a conversation about Calzaghe's missed career opportunities or his need to become very active very quickly in order to put together a great legacy. Bottom line...Bernard would have his hands extremely full against a guy that you dont think is very good-right? Bernard had trouble with Taylor, would have trouble with Wright, possible guys like Chad Dawson, the list goes on. I think at 41 Calzaghe would have a good shot at beating him. But at 41 Bernard doesn't need to be looking at fights with any of these guys. He's 41, and that's why he's said he's retiring. He's used his time effectivly and put together a legacy worthy of calling himself one of the greatest of his generation, and of all time. If Calzaghe wants to come anywhere near that, he should be looking at the Taylor Wright winner, Kessler, and the winner of Woods Johnson. That would be a good step in the right direction.

If he had put any effort into traveling (countries and different divisions) he'd woudn't need to be scrambling now. The Tarver fight was a big fight out there, but last I hear he's bickering with Glen Johnson about moving down to 168. Where were the call outs to Tarver? The offers to fight him at 175 in Vegas or MSG? Hopkins has nothing to gain from taking this fight. He's said he's hanging them up now, and after a long career of making good choices and decisions, that's his porogative. Let the man stay retired. I dont want to see Hopkins fight Calzaghe, he already has his legacy. Hopkins is a smart man and he knows he doesn't need Calzaghe. Its too much of a risk, I mean he is 41 now...

Hopkins is old and although it'd be interesting to see how him and Joe matchup, I'd only be thinking of how Bernard would have won 5 years ago if it ends as a close fight. I'd rather see Joe fight guys like Adamek, Briggs, Kessler, and Mundine...up and comers who are young and just as threatening as Bernard at this point.

I think B-hop is done. How many times have we seen a fighter fail to capitalize on winning a big fight? They always find some way to botch things up.

That was the perfect way to end a career, he shouldn't fight again. Its Frank Warrens job to make him rethink that notion. If Joe cant get Bernard there is absolutely no one around-shit if Joe beat Bernard he could fight you juy and he would be able to name his price. At the very least an offer that makes Bernard think must be made!
