The greats have all done it. Hearns. Duran. Leonard. Langford. Robinson.
Leonard, especially, is a good case. He went from quite low weights all the way to 160 to fight Hagler. Hagler being a great, possibly #1 middleweight of all time. And it was a very competitive fight. (no arguments about who won, thats not the point, i'll just leave it at competitive).
Can mayweather emulate this? At 160, could he possible beat Taylor or Wright, Abraham or Sturm?
Maybe not now, but when he's older. It would be AWESOME to watch.
I stand corrected with regards to Zab Judah and his reign (if you would call it that) at 140/147.
Mayweather was impressive in beating Gatti/Mitchell/Judah as of late, but if you look back through his career he has made some very clever decisions as to who he fights and when.
He fought Diego Corrales at super-feather when Corrales was murdered at the weight, he stepped up to lightweight and beat Jose Luis Castillo controversially, and when he finally made his move for a light-welterweight title, he chose the most suitable of all the champions, the one that would be easiest to deal with style-wise. Man, this isn't rocket science.
His career is looking great up until he fights Castillo. He loses the first time, beats Castillo the 2nd time, but doesn't 'dominate' him and it's a really negative fight. Then he fights Ndou, Gatti, Corley blah blah blah. All small fighters wouldn't you agree. Gatti started out at 135, and Corley is just naturally smaller. He then takes on Mitchell (former 140 lber), and Judah (former 140 lber). It's not rocket science man. He's fighting smaller fighters like himself.
And with regards to Winky, he's 5'8'' but he's got a big frame. He's pretty stocky but he's short. I think Taylor's just too big and strong for him. Time will telll, though.
Im going to stop talking to you because your back to talking that crazy shit again. How many times are you going to say that Winky is 5'8? Dude is 5'10 and a half. Did you see his fight with Tito? Tito is 5'11 and Winky was eye to eye with him. How can Winky be 5'8? Dont talk crazy.
2nd, what do you mean Chico was murdered? Are you talking about by Floyd or before that because he definatly was not before that.
3rd, I want you to name me one fighter that Floyd ducked. Name one. Who at 140 did Floyd not fight that he couldve? He asked Hatton and he said no, he asked Cotto but he was too green, Frietas & Lazcano turned him down at 140. Then he moves to 147 to fight the Champ in Zab. He fights Mitchell as a tuneup. Now people want him to fight Margarito but Floyd has let it be known for like 6 fights that he wants Oscar but he could never get him.
Now he's in the best position he's ever been in to get the fight and people expect him to go after Margarito when Oscar only has one fight left, always fights in September, and he can make nearly triple the amount. Do you think that Floyd thinks a Margarito fight is more dangerous then Oscar at 154? If anyone thinks that then there crazy.
Go ahead and name me one guy that Floyd couldve fought but different. Am I lying about those guys I just named? People love to hate on Floyd and they love to use that as a excuse. They say dumb things like Floyd left 140 without facing Cotto & Hatton so he didnt fight the best? Like Floyd didnt try to get those fights? Like Floyd was so scared of those guys? Its been widely reported and Hatton has even admitted it. They still say they want other fights 1st.
Shit, he couldve left 140 without having Gatti because he had a life and death struggle to get that fight. How many times did Gatti turn him down? Imagine if he never got the Gatti fight? Then people wouldve again blamed him for that. You know its true.
I also have a article right here saying that Winky would not fight Floyd for less then 50/50 and all that Floyd wanted was 55/45. Matter of fact they had agreed to the fight and then Shaw got mad because he said that Floyd at the last second changed it from 50/50 to 55/45 but Arum said that Shaw is lying and they had never agreed on the purse. I believe Arum because it had already been widley reported that Winky wanted 50/50 and Floyd wasnt going to take that big jump for 50/50 but he didnt want that crazy 80/20 that you made up like always. I was right, you were wrong, and this article is another clear example of people like yourself making up things just to hate on Floyd for no reason!

1st, I'll talk to you however you want. Stop talking out of your Mayweather box and I won't have a problem with you.
2nd, Judah ran from Mayweather when he moved up to 140. He has been constantly dogging Tsyzu because he knows the fight would never happen. He was such an ass to Tszyu at the press conference - then hell I don't fuckin blame Tszyu for not taking a rematch. Besides, Judah would of never beat Tszyu anyways.
3rd, Mayweather has made brilliant moves throughout his career. Fighting a severly weight-drained Corrales at 130, and the main thing that people talk about...He fought Castillo twice at 135. ONE FUCKING THIRTY FIVE. I can't imagine Mayweather facing a touch cookie at 140, 147, but like I said it won't happen. Mayweather would rather fight guys who 'box' with him. The guy's talented but he doesn't like body punches.
Look, buddy. I know for a fact that Mayweather ducked Winky. I think the offer was something like 65/35 in favour of Mayweather - Winky jumped on the offer for easy money and then Mayweather wanted a 80/20 split. Winky denied because he's getting taken advantage of there. Then, Mayweather claims that Winky ducks him. Heh, what a joke. Winky has fought all over the world, in peoples backyards yet he won't fight itty bitty little 140 pound Mayweather.
Let me tell you something. Winky is like a 175 lb Middlweight now. It would not be pretty to see Winky pummel Mayweather into submission. Trust me. As for Taylor - Winky. Winky's only 5'8'' and Taylor's a 6'1'' genetic freak who has good fundamentals, good athletic ability but his technique isn't great. He's going to outwork Winky for the decision.
Mayweather's a good fighter, don't get me wrong. But he's not fighting anyone who has a physical advantage over him. He's been fighting smaller fighters liek himself the past 3 years. He's got the Ray Leonard mentality. He does not like to get punched to the body.
All you do is talk out of your ass. How did Zab run from Floyd when Zab fought at 147 before Floyd was even at 140, idiot. Zab had said before the Tszyu fight that he was moving up to 147 after that and may fight Forrest but he lost to Tszyu. After that he stayed at 140 for a long time just to fight Tszyu but he never got the fight. Hatton wasnt ready and Cotto was green so he moved up to fight the Welterweight Champ and you said he's running? How stupid? 1st you said he was running from Tszyu but when people call you on it then you switch up because you dont know shit.
Its so funny how idiots like yourself love to talk about how drained Chico was for the fight but yet 3 fucking years later Chico is still at 130 fighting Casamayor. That sounds like he was really drained doesnt it?
Then you are so fucking wrong on the Winky thing. I already told you how it was. Your so stupid to say that Winky wanted a 65/35 split when the whole time he said he wouldnt fight Floyd for less then 50/50 because he is the one taking all the risk. Look it up, clown. You think Floyd is stupid enough to ask him to do 80/20?
Then you have your dumbass on here talking about how Winky is such a huge Middleweight but on your previous message, you said that Winky was small and I called you on that.
Your a clown that only knows about hip hop. Stay talking about that shit because you obviously dont know anything about boxing and probally nothing about hip hop either, clown.
when did he when a light heavyweight title?
he fought donny lalonde, one of the weakest "champions" of recent memory, for the wbc light hw belt at 168 so that the winner would be the recognized smw champ too.
Gatti came out boxing against Mayweather. He's also been outclassed 7 times during his career. Hardly a notable win for Mr. Mayweather.
You didn't say "notable win". You said that he never fought anyone who was a body puncher. Gatti has great body punch power.

your a fucking asshole, what do you mean he only fights people that box with him, he has fought alot of brawlers you idiot. and what the fuck do you mean he don't like body shots name one boxer that does.
Leanard started his career at Light welterweight, 140 lbs and then later on won the welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight titles.
hes a 5 division champ
when did he when a light heavyweight title?
He's 5'8'' on a good day. Most of the fighters today add a couple inches to there actual fight. I personally think he's i nthe 5'6' 5'7'' range especially when I saw him fight itty bitty Sharmba.
your a itty bitty idiot

Mayby But I dont think it will happen. But to come up from super feather! That would be something else!

Your right. Gatti is not a body puncher. Hes just a boxer.
And he is not fighting anyone with phsyical advantages over him because to find someone who has advantages over him you need to look to 160.
He should fight at 154. 160 would be tough, but this sport is about pushing yourself, don't give the man shit beacuse he callenges himself.
Mayweather might actually win some fights at MW because the division is so weak right now. Against a really strong MW though he would get smoked. Him fighting Marvin Hagler or a prime Hopkins would be brutal to watch. However, I would not be completely stunned if he could beat a Jermaine Taylor simply because I don't think Taylor know how to put enough pressure on to take advantage of his huge size advantage in that matchup.
Jermain Taylor
Winky Wright
Edison Miranda
Felix Sturm
Arthur Abraham
Sam Soliman
Howard Eastman
Amin Asikainen
the division is not that GREAT...however far from bad
Ike Quartey

ur a asshole..robinson hearns leonard langford and even duran are alot bigger then mayweather..do u think he could beat jermain taylor u idiot
This is a thread about PBF, not leonard. I was using him as an example of a fighter who moved up in weight and was competitive.
There is NO argument you can make that can convince ANYONE that leonard wasn't competitive at higher weights.

leonard is a joke and a cheat. dont use him as an example of a "good case".
I'm a PBF fan but I think 154 should be his limit like he said in interview's before. I think at 154 Oscar is a tough fight but I see PBF winning on point's, at 160 it would be dangerous against any fighter that's A,B level. He's great and a smart fighter but I don't know if a fighter like Taylor who would know he can't possibly be hurt and has a great jab. I don't like that combination so nothing's impossible but it's unlikely IMO at 160.
im a fan too but on the cool buddy, he should even take his ass up there...anything over 147 he will lose....he stays under then he will retire undefeated..

hell no.....say goodbye to that undefeated record if he goes up to middleweight....he will; definitely be limited to just being a boxer...oh and im not so sure he could take a taylor punch...i say hell no pretty boy, stay your butt right there or move down
