The most recent one was julio cesar chavez with a little over 100 wins i believe. But im talking american or other places fighters. the most recent one was like leonard i think.
The reason i say only american fights, is because Mexican fighters tend to have short amature careers and have like 60 fights before they turn 30, and they fight for ever as well.
WHy dont we see these true worriors any more. These guys that are well conditioned animales. I remember every fighter out there was a muscular, well conditioned animal. the Heavyweight division wasnt all fatasses. Now all the fighters that arent great or soon to be great are slow and tire faster then quickly.
Thats the reason i think there arent anymore of these shockingly great athletes anymore.
Does anyone believe that people stay in amatuers a LOT longer than they did before? I'm not really sure if the boxers in the past had a lot of amatuer fights so this is why this is more of a question. Kind of like Thomas Damgaard having over 200 amatuer bouts.
Does anyone know how the UFC PPVs perform in terms of buy rates as opposed to the average of boxing PPVs?
UFC has surpassed the WWE in pay-per-view buys already.
UFC 59(with the return of Tito Ortiz) had 400,000+ buys. The past UFC events have been averaging similiar figures also(UFC 58 had 300k, UFC 57 had 400+K also). UFC 60(Gracie vs Hughes) will probably surpass that.
Still not nearly as much as boxing. DeLahoya-Mayorgo had almost 900,000 buys.
Anybody know how many pvv buys Pacquaio-Morales 2 had?
Yeah - people lose track of the fact that boxers who are good enough to be considered world-class don't all come to the same country to fight for the same promoters. Boxing is far too big to be regulated like that - why do people think setting boxing up like they do team sports is the answer to corruption? All it does it change who gets to do the corrupting - the promoters have less ability, the "big 4" have less ability, but the new commissioner/single governing body, etc. will simply take over.
People don't amass 100 wins anymore because someone good enough to win a ton of fights doesn't need that many fights to retire with a big stack of money. There are people who end up with over 100 fights - but they're guys driving around and getting beat up every 3 or 4 weeks on an undercard - Reggie Strickland's there, Marteze Logan appears to be heading in that direction - but one would have to make it a point to hit 100 wins - and unless they were so far above the other fighters in their divisions so that they were always fighting good competition - the only way it is likely to be done is someone padding their record intentionally through scheduling for the sake of hitting triple-digits.
damn..now i agree with you on that playa..like kfootball said, a commisioner would do the sport some justice...
i think boxing is way to big even to have a commisioner, how they even get a fighter ranked is genious
that's a very good point. i also think because boxing isn't on regular tv anymore, it is suffering.
what i see today - we have made for tv fighters (delahoya), and tv fighters (gatti) but the bouts in which they participate in are not competitive. ask yourself how many times on espn you have seen a good prospect matched up with a tomato can. there is simply bad matchmaking because of the mythical 'undefeated record' which fighters have to keep.
damn..now i agree with you on that playa..like kfootball said, a commisioner would do the sport some justice...
i read someone say fighters don't fight as often cause they got to cut down weight well, that can't be the only reson. i remember reading a few books were fighter had to drop weight quickly cause they had a fight offered to them and at quick notice so they dropped weight. and plus, as mentioned their ain't as many fights going on as their was back then. and boxers today get paid a lot of money compared to back in the day.
one of the main reasons american fighters had so many fights was because part of it was because of the depression, anytime a fighter could get a fight they took it. if one fighter could fighter every week he did.
i think the main reson american fighters today don't fight as much is because their is more money in boxing then their was back then. and they have to protect their unbeaten record cause all it take is one title shot and that fighters makes a lot of money depending on who is champion at the time.
i never heard of showtime before castillo carrales. and while showtime has a lot of better fights, HBO still has paquioa, barrera, morrales, hatton, Cotto, mayweather, and winky
no, but if i were to guess boxing would be higher. but, UFC is getting bigger. just think about it. i've been to many fights in the past 17+ years that i have been watching and the past 5 years i have noticed a drop in the younger population.
the average fan want's quick knockouts and/or competitive bouts. i don't see this anymore. the only company that puts on great, competitive bouts is showtime. hbo is the leader but it is far behind showtime in terms of the fight quality.
I'll agree with that. I always saw better fights overall on Showtime than HBO, but HBO has the larger advertising budget and therefore the higher profile so more than a few people think those fights are all boxing has to offer and don't see the Showtime fights.
You must be right, I should have seen that coming
Nothing better than two barefoot men hugging eachother on the ground for 15 minutes. :(
LOL, exactly, add humping the other fightes back, the ufc shit is for wrestling fans
Because of that 2 fights/yr shit these fighters today are on....the studying of an opp. is at an all-time high in the sport today...boxers study evrything from head moves to the number of blinks a fighter takes before swing...those days of taking weeks notice for a fight are over and gone..i take that back...upcoming fighters still do it to get more fighter under their belts..
lol, so true for some fighters
because of this new "ppv" era. fighters today are protected, coddled and misused by promoters for their own personal gain.
i aggree, its more about protecting a fighter with an undefeated record then to show case his skills around the world to the paying public
exactly. this is why boxing could be so easy to fix. just get a commisioner. A guy that runs everything. u could potentially keep everything the same for a long while, if u have a governing body to keep it straight and on track. This is partly the reason NFL is so succesful. They have enforcers. If someone gets out of line, they do suspend and fine people immidiatly. The NFL (my favorite sport, tied with boxing) has been so succesful in the past few years, that it is now americas past time (taken over baseball!!! this a fact by the way. The NFL is the most popular sport in america) and in a few more years, major rivalry games and possibly the superbowl will be placed on PPV. its all possible, but unlikely
Once boxing gets in serious trouble, it could probably get fixed in a year or two max. Boxing isnt a dying sport because major victories are posted on the front page of newspapers, on AOLs welcome screen, and the front of ESPN.com
But seriously, lets get back on the topic. I agree that fighters might be taking more damage due to the need to make weight. but i dont think thats the true reason. i think that because we now know a lot more medical stuff, fighters know that they wont be able to fight for a long time if they fight their hardest every fight. Doctors and trainers probably advise them to keep away from fighting for as long as possible
boxing's done. stick a fork in it. i give it another 5-10 years and UFC/pride will surpass it.
playa..ufc/pride are sports of there own..boxing will never be finished...it was here before you and I....and it will be here after us...pride sucks anyway...

look at floyd, the so called best p4p fighter in boxing hardly wants to fight, he only fights once every blue moon
You must be right, I should have seen that coming

LMAO
According to the so call "experts" boxing has been done for years already. Boxing ain't going anywhere. And the UFC can't even surpass the WWE how's it going to surpass boxing?
Its funny how people think boxing is going down tubes or is already done, yet PPV prices keep going up and HBO and the fighters are constantly making more and more money. wierd...
i think boxing will be at this same level until well after we are all dead.
the reason a lot of fans are turned away from the sport, is because it could take 5-6 months for them to get to see their favorite fighter fight again. If we could get more guys that fight like 4 or 5 times a year, and reach that 100 fights mark, then i could see boxing making a pretty easy and quick comeback.
