Im kinda related to a boxer O.O His name is Jake The Snake Rodriguez... hes my cousins on my dads side uncle :D Im just interested if anyone has ever heard of him... My pa told be that he fought Trinidad and lost... badly. Well has anyone ever heard of him?
Some old issues of The Ring magazie and its sister publications should be informative. I remember reading an article about how Jake suffered his first defeat (KO4) in the hands of a fighter named Mike Brown. At first, Brown was disqualified for having landed the KO punch during the break. Even with that loss, Rodriguez was subsequently often covered by The Ring alongside the Ruelas brothers and, of course, those HUGE names.
He fought Tito in Puerto Rico, fairly early in Trinidad's career. He lost but went the distance (10) with the Puerto Rican icon.
rodriguez got better after he won the title he wasn't supposed to win those fights while he was defending it against oliverias and george scott two tough respected contenders.
their a saying in boxing, "the title makes a fighter better" and this was the case with jake "the snake" rodriguez who as mentioned got a huge upset of charles murry
He made two defenses of his 140 Lb IBF crown against a prime Ray Olivera...helluva good fighter...and an undefeated guy named George Scott before losing his title to Kostya Tszyu, who was 13-0 at the time.
After the Tszyu loss, it was pretty much down hill. He lost 5 of his last 7 fights...most notable of which was the shot at Whittaker's Welterweight championship...and was stopped in a rematch with Murray.
That's all I know.

Yep, Rodriguez was a pesky southpaw action fighter who outhustled and whupped up on a highly touted fighter at the time, Charles "The Natural" Murray to win the IBF Jr. Welterweight Crown. Good fighter...saw him on ESPN about 4 or 5 times or somthing.
