Just try to avoid Pacquiao at all cost and he should be good. Pac is on a whole new level. Barrera cannot cope with Pac's aggressive, rapid, strong, non stop punching style.
i love barrera and i dont usually like your manny nuthugging but i totally agree with you and anyone who thinks that he could beat pac a second time is a dummy
Barrera is still an excellent fighter after 15 years in ring as was shown on Saturday. He still had enough to get a descision against a young, skilled, power punching fighter like Jaurez. I dont think he would beat Jaurez in a rematch but still, I think he should fight until he somebody beats him descisively. Also it would hurt the legacy he leaves greatly if he were never to avenge his loss to Pacquio which I feel his very capable of doing.
Not only that, but I hadn't realized until today that Morita changed his scorecard after the fact. The same Morita who had Juarez losing his last fight. And the fight in LA. And Barrera and De La Hoya bosom buddies. Why does this smell like a fix?
Running backwards the whole fight, spit out his mouthpiece 3 times, despite fighting at his best weight, this guy needs to give it up....
??????What?????Retire??????What???? Playa you are crazy..he just had respect for the youngmans power. he switched his style to the one he & his trainer felt would be most suited for Jauerz's style..
Funny how people can fool themselves into thinking just about anything. Barrera blaming his problem spitting out the mouthpiece on a new mouthpiece is like a Kenyan runner blaming his loss at the Boston Marathon on using a new brand of shoes he'd never trained in. It ain't gonna happen. A world-class athlete doesn't try new things the day of the event. Barrera was spitting out his mouthpiece when it wasn't getting knocked out because he was struggling. His nose was closed so he had to breath through his mouth. He was on his bicycle most of the fight. He was backed up and overpowered by a relatively listless, although dangerous, opponent who finished the fight almost unmarked and unpressed. By contrast, Barrera was pummeled throughout and looked like the beaten fighter in his corner between rounds, much less after the fight. Shame these guys can't pack it in and go out on top like they ought to. We need to let them go so we can get some fresh young blood for the next generation, rather than suffering through the Seniors Circuit....
It was a close fight. I think people just look at the last 4 rounds and use them to describe the whole fight. You have to take in account the other rounds too, and before the 10th round Barrera winning fairly easily in my book.
I worry about a guy that has been through that much in his career. I agree with Manny Stewart, his post fight assessmentt was spot on: Barrera at this point cannot change; whereas Rocky is young,, getting better, and would have the confidence to probably plow Barrera in a rematch.
In answer to the question: Retire- No. Pick his next opponent very carefully- Yes. Go out big with another mega-fight or two.
Nothing is wrong with Barrera. He fought an opponent who is better than Fana or Peden. He's always been the same.
Give Rocky his credit :boxing:

Sometimes you get a mouthpiece that just irritates the hell out of you...sometimes they feel good right away, that's how it is. MAB is still awesome at 32, he's a benchmark that we can base all other featherweights with..no way he should retire.
he's a pro, and hes smart enough to know that by going in with a new mouth piece he could spit it out and buy time, barrera went in with a new mouth piece knowing this.
yes, barrera was hurt, and barrera was ready to get knocked out, but damn if rocky didn't let him off the line, all rocky had to do was place more punchs together. i doubt barrera would give rocky another shot though highly deserved. if rocky get a rematch this fight will even be more explosive and juarez putting his hands together will tear into barrera hard and to add that for some reason rocky wasn't letting his left hand go, in the rematch he works it and gets a tko if not a ko.
you guys are making excuses for barrera he clearly spit out the mouthpiece on his own, juarez punchs were hurting him so he was buying time

Barrea most deffinately did not spit out his mouthpeice on purpose. One of the times it clearly showed Barreras mouthpeice slip out while he was punching, it was like he spit it out or anything. And Juarez didnt hurt Barrera in that second round, he just knocked him off balance with a good hsot but Barrera came right back firing. He wasnt really hurt.
115-113 Barrera
I personally thought Barreras bleeding nose was causing him breathing problems which is why he kept his mouth opened so much, but he said it was the type of mouthpiece so whatev.
