What do you think Jermain Taylor is going to have to do to beat Winky Wright? What does his gameplan have to be?
I heard Emmanuel Steward say that the way Taylor is going to win is by making Winky be the agressor and take him out of his element but I really don't get this because that would be putting his fighter out of his element. No matter how hard they train in the weeks leading up to this fight, Taylor will always be accustomed to fighting while pressing forward and if he does indeed apply this gameplan then he will have to figure out how to avoid the jab of Winky and het off shots of his own. I don't know I just think the whole plan doesn't make much sense. It's not like Winky is an all defensive fighter, he has a great jab and his straight left isn't something to be taken for granted. If he does do that then I expect a very ugly yet lopsided win for Winky. That would be bad imo.
I think that the one way to penetrate Winky's defense is to shoot through the middle. I think that a fighter with a good straight 1,2 would give Winky trouble. I remember after the first Hopkins fight the thing the Taylor camp vowed to do was straighten up Taylor's straight right. It was very loopy in the first fight and that cost him a lot of oppurtunities at clean shots because his set up was perfect but the loopiness of his punches had a lot of punches just glancing Hopkins instead of connecting flush. Then he came into the second fight and had the same problems. For Taylor's sake I REALLY hope they are straessing straighting up his right hand because if he can open Winky's defense with his hooks and even his jab to some degree, then shoot up the middle with the right hand, then I would give him a good chance to win. So basically, I think he just has to spread the defense of Winky with lead hooks and jabs and then shoot through the middle with the right. That only works if he doesn't have that loopy right hand it's straight. As of now though, I don't see him doing much more then landing on anything other then Winky's gloves and arms.
Your thoughts?
I wouldn't move backward if I was Taylor because he doesn't know how to fight that way as Hopkins showed us. He shouldn't be too agressive because Winky is a good defensive fighter and counter the openings Taylor leaves out on the table.
Taylor needs to use his size and reach advantage by jabbing to keep Winky at bay. He has a good jab and should be thrown over Winky's jab at different angles while moving to the left away from the Winky's left counter hand. Winky is to smart for a loop right hand and will counter it all day. I would follow up the jab with long rights. On inside go with short left and lots clinching John Ruiz style and muscling Winky when he get close enough to land. Winky won't be able to counter in clinch or find his range and it will frustrate him. Taylor also has to get Winky to be more agressive and make him trade shots at the long range.
Winky needs to use his jab correctly, stay inside Taylor's jab, and find the range on the left. Taylor gases so I would counter to the body in single hard counters to body early on. Winky should frustrate Taylor more and expose his inexperience by winning rounds early and splitting the rounds to lower his confidence and put pressure on him to win the fight. Winky should dominate late rounds when Taylor gases again so winning a few early rounds will help alot.
Taylor is bigger and stronger than Wright or Hopkins. Taylor has a great jab which will serve him well, and he has enough power to hurt Winky.
I predict Taylor will win this fight. Youth, size, power, speed...Vargas did what he did, and Taylor can do it also.

For Taylor to win this fight, he must fight more intelligently and patiently. He needs to throw short punches from different angles. Winky Wright is almost impossible to beat when you stand directly in front of him, so giving Winky angles goes a long way. Taylor will also have to move exclusively to his left and throw his jab over Wright's jab, offsetting his rhythm. He must not make the mistake that Trinidad made when he moved to his right all night and was a sucker for Winky's jab all night long. Wright is very adept at blocking straight punches, so throwing his right hand with a sweeping arc to it will also be very effective.
Winky Wright needs to fight the fight that he is accustomed to in order to give himself the best chance to take the title from Taylor. Winky will need to use his jab religiously and set up combinations up top. When Wright is effective with the jab, he is able to back his opponent up. Taylor cannot fight going backwards, and it is imperitive that Wright make him fight in reverse. Wright also needs to work the body to try to take some of the steam out of Taylor's punches. Keeping the pressure on Taylor after he punches will wear him down gradually and leave openings for Winky to take advantage late in the fight.
Are people forgetting Winky is a southpaw? His straight left is gonna land on Taylor consistantly with Taylors right hand always hovering low. Ask Hatton about slick southpaws , except this one is right handed with awesome defense. I hope the gamblers all jump on Taylor to boost Winkys line making him an underdog

Taylor gets picked apart in a one sided fight.. Not nearly as onesided as tito though
imo, wright's ring age is MUCH younger than his real one... I think switching up trainers will prove to be a costly mistake for Taylor, it's going to affect him mentally.. those saying wright is old must be crazy as i feel wright is at his prime best at the moment, he's shown NO signs of age or wear from the game since his defensive efforts keep him pretty well protected.. he's going to exploit the holes in Taylor and take the decision june 17th...
that's because he hasn't face anyone that can show his age. WInky is no Hop who fights actively every year, and dominates easily without getting tagged.
Jermain is real. He is the champion for a reason. Once Jermain realizes that Winky is easier to hit than Hop (because Winky isn't elusive), Jermain will try to knock him out to send a statement. And remember, Shane wobbled him when Winky let Shane hit him right on the chin on the 2nd fight. Winky even saw the punch coming and got hurt bad. AND, it came from a natural 147lbs fighter. Trust me, Jermain, a middleweight with power, will give him a whooping.

By best way for Taylor to win is to fire Manny Steward. He has already screwed up Harris, Klitschko and Cintron, and he will screw up Taylor if given a chance. Teaching young men to violate the principles of boxing is ridiculous and it is about time this senile old bugger went into retirement.
He'll have to outwork Winky & hope that his size, strength, & power can push Winky back.
He will not beat Winky with boxing skills or with his left jab.
Taylor will also get hit and not like it. Hence turning his back like a coward pussy. He's gonna get hit A LOT actually. Winky will throw about 10-15 more punches a round more than Popskins. Winky has a great jab, Popskins has no jab. If he did he woulda won both fight easily. Taylor has 0 defense, Wright has the best defense in boxing arguably
If you watch any of the rounds where Taylor lands his right hand on Hopkins, Bernard is visibly afraid to get hit again. He reels across the ring, hides between the ropes, ANYTHING. If Taylor's power can make a Hopkins, who has a great chin, take notice, then I think Winky's not gonna like it very much. Hopkins is super hard to hit too. Trinidad never hit him clean in 12 rounds, but Taylor was able to hit Hopkins with about 15-20 good right hands in two fights. Wright will be hit, and he will not like it.
all taylor needs to do is not get KO'd if the fight is close he will get the nod, winky is old and getting ready to retire, taylor is a young cash cow, they wont let winky ruin it
why do you even watch boxing if you think it works like that? seriously, if anybody believed in judges purposely screwing people over, then why do you even watch the sport?
Making Winky fight offensively means that Taylor is going to outjab him and Winky will have to do something if he does not want to loose the fight.Think about it, Taylor has the faster longer jabs, he will out-point Winky the first 6 rounds, he will be forced to be on the offensive to score some points and then is Taylor's fight he will be fighting.
Your crazier than Manny P lol
Taylor outboxing Winky the first 6 rounds? give me a break
Taylors jab will hit Winkys big ass gloves, Winkys big ass gloves will hit Taylors face because he keeps both his hands low as hell. Stewart will TRY to fix that but dont have enough time IMO
I think Winky wins 9 rounds to 3, at worst 8-4. Winky will give away the 11th and 12th after a shutout

You have to be the biggest clown on this site. A 41 year old Hopkins had Taylor exhausted in a low punch output fight. For Taylor to have a chance to win he has to throw a shitload of shots which he will be countered to death. Taylors power is overrated and he isnt even fast. Winky gonna take his jab away as Winks gloves are always high and Jermains are always low, thats a recipe for dissaster for Jermain. And you cant change the way youve been fighting for your entire life in 4 weeks and be good at it. They brought Stewart in for a reason... They know their in trouble PERIOD.
Im dropping 300 on WInky decision and another 400 on Winky win
Taylor wasn't confident. He was throwing unnneccessary punches against one of the best defensive fighter in the game. Hop made him miss. Hop didn't block Jermain punches.
Winky doesn't move around, he just blockes his head with those big gloves. Jermain would easily capitalize on that. If Soliman was able to roughen up WInky, I think Jermain can do better. Watch Jermain go to the body once Winky use that boring blocking tactic.
Winky's age is going to show up here. He's going to find out that he can't compete with Jermain.
Jermain didn't have much confidence against Hopkins, but now he does. Jermain will beat Winky.
