I feel very strongly that Miguel Cotto will not face a top caliber apponent until 2007, which will not be an apponent known for his punching power. The moment he faces a real puncher I believe he will be knocked out, and badly.
Antonio Tarver will never face a top caliber apponent again for the remainder of his mediocre career. Jermain Taylor I think was brought up very poorly as a boxer, and got lucky when Bernard Hopkins aged right before our eyes in his last 2 fights with him. Now Taylor finds himself in an uncomfortable situation in his defending his title against a top pound-4-pound fighter named Winky Wright. I like Taylor, I think hes a great guy and would be a peoples champion, I really hope he succeeds but I feel that Wright will embarrase him when they meet this summer because Taylor just does not have the skills to defeat Wright.
Joan Guzman will get knocked out before long judging by his last performance, and until JC Chavez Jr stopps with these 6 rounders, against bums, and proves me wrong by fighting and defeating top caliber fighters, I just cant take him seriously. Jc Chavez Sr is my hero, but im not gonna root for someone who has gone back and fourth with 4 rounders and 6 rounders just because he is his son. He needs to kick it up with 10 rounders against tough apponents. Enjoy.
why should cotto fight a top caliber guy? Yea the public wants it but to me hes not ready and i think its the smartest thing to do to take ur time than end up another vargas. Same thing with Chavez Jr. kid is only 19. what the hell r u thinkin? and what about joan guzman? the guy he fought is used to getting into wars and is very tough and he came up from 122 to fight at 130. so judging hatton's performance hes gonna get knocked out soon?
that's what this Carolina guy doesn't understand. He's being brought up at the right pace. The fighter you mention up above is erfect example of being rushed. Take a look at Hatton he stepped up in opposition when he fought Tszyu and had 39 fights under his belt. Arum brought DLH up at a great pace and we all know what DLH means to the sport right now.
The most underrated fighter in the world has got to be Daniel Santos. This guy has a recent victory against Margarito. There is a lot of talk about Margarito, and none about Santos.
Sam Solimon is a close second behind Santos. People get fooled by the seven or eight losses on his record. To illustrate how much he has improved since his earlier losses, one of his losses right before he went on his winning streak was to Raymond Joval by majority decision. He fought him three years later during his winning streak and beat him by scores of 120-107, 120-107, 119-108, which by the way, is a hell of a lot better than Fernando Vargas did against him.
i dont know to much about cotto but i did see his last fight it was pretty good but pretty lack luster at the sametime. but i thikn tarver should be atop of your list of overated if anyone. look at what he has done. he confronted RJJ when he moved up to HW. why didnt he show up to the post fight confrence after he beat woods?? bc he seen that RJJ just put on 25 pounds and seen that he would have to drop the weight to come fight him. if he wanted RJJ so badly he would have gone up to HW to fight him. RJJ lost all that weight in a short amount of time and still beat him. he talked about how RJJ beat up abunch of nobody's but look at his resume. he fought montell griffen, eric harding (lost the 1st fight by the way). glenn johnson too. samething beat up a RJJ who just was out to prove he can still fight. did you see that fight? i think i remember RJJ not throwing any punches. thats not bc he was dominated either. i saw alot of openings he could have landed some good shots on. but my top two overrated fighters are tarver and glenn johnson bc they didnt beat anyone good. they beat up on a old RJJ. again he is fighting hopkins and Bhop just doesnt know when to call it quits. yea he was robbed but he should just retire. he wants to fight tyson. come on are you kidding me. does anyone else see who tarver goes after. go after wlad or byrd or someone who actually held a title in the most recent years. not a mike tyson who hasnt had a good fight since the ear biting. please someone agree with me that tarver is MOST OVERRATED.
Also a point I failed to bring up with all this Cotto stuff is Freitas. I dont think Freitas is under-rated. Freitas in my opinnion is a gate keeper type of fighter the way Corley is and Ike Quartay are. He is excellent against non-elite guys and against elites he will do well but will always fall short.
Corrales, Castillo even Juan Diaz would beat him but he would not get totally embarrased but it would be convincing.

1. Cotto is a beast, fights and beats everyone that he's been put in with. Has shown the courage to get off the canvas, and come back to win in the face of adversity.
4. Guzman looks very promising, I've only seen him fight once, but I dont hear anyone talking him up like he's the next big thing, so how is he overrated. It's obvious he's got serious skills.
5. Is Chavez even old enough to buy alcohol yet? No one is calling him the next big thing, or anything like that. Give the kid a chance.
Also, I dont see many hyping up Taylor either.
Cotto has not fought a superstar fighter yet so that is still to be determined. But, so far he is definitely not overrated. He's on his way up, we'll just have to wait and see................
20, 19. not enough difference. and yea hatton looked bad but idk i think it was a case of the jitters. if he fights margarito hes done.
yeah id prolly say that too
JC Jr is 20 already, and idk Hatton may get knocked out since he almost did against a guy with a low ko percantage, he'd prolly be #6 on the list

So, weho cant he handle, who are eilites, in your mind, if not Castillo?
if he beats any of the guys i just mentioned then i might change my mind about Cotto

Acelino Freitas, Jesus Chavez, prolly Juan Diaz, those guys would have to move up though, Cotto might have to move up to welter get a big fight with Mayweather, Margarito, or Hatton. cuz there aint really anyone at light welter, i think Lamont Peterson would be a good fight at light welter
Dude you started quoting yourself , I think it might be time for you to put down the keyboard and take a walk or atleast open the window.
WHOOPS, yeah i been on too long, i dont think nobody else noticed though do you? lol
but at least u know what kind of competetion Cotto can and cannot handle

Taylor is not overated he beat Hopkins in his first step up. And being "green" just imagine how he is gonna look now that Emanuel Steward is in his corner. Winky is going to get knocked out. He is not fighting a blown up junior middle weight here, hes fighting a very big middleweight. I see Winky landing some good shots early until Taylor starts putting some hard shots on him and taking him out in about round 7 or 8. Peace
some good points, i had actually forgot Steward was in his corner for this one
