Jones needs to hang 'em up, hes finished!!! he must be just fighting for the money now, and while im at it, wasnt Bernard Hopkins supposed to retire when he turned 40? Both he and Tarver should stop wasting our times too, who is Tarver kidding, one of the greatest off all time?!?!?! only in his wildest dreams will he ever be considered one of the greatest. Bernard is one of the greatests, but whys he still fighting.i'd much rather see Jones get knocked out again then watch 12 rounds of holding, and jabs, and more holding, and ducking, and circling.
I know some of u guys are gonna be like, "well u dont have to watch any of those fights if u dont want to," so that being said, i know i dont have to watch them, and im not going to, but there are ppl who will watch them expecting to see good fights, just to be dissapointed. Jones, Hopkins, and Tarver are wasting all of there times and everyone who is somehow involved in those "big" pay-per-are-you-kidding-view fights. there times are being wasted. Let me know what y'all think, feel free to be critical
Man there was a time that RJJ had the speed to fight safe, get in there land punches, and out before they started to sting, but Tarver/Jones Jr 3 was a joke he was almost breakdancing in there, i was waiting for him to spin on his back or some shit. Like i said he needs to go out there and take it too'em, fight your kind of fight, but throw some fuckin punches, you get hit you get hit, you get dropped so be it, but at least you go out like a true champ.
one thing Roy will never do is go out like a true champ
I was a huge Jones fan.I loved the Jones that ko'd opponets with his hands behind his back (Glen Kelley). The Jones that schooled a much larger man (John Ruiz). This version of Jones is not one that I want to see in the ring. His skills have diminished but not the fighting spirit that so many said he didn't have.He reached down deep like the true champion he is to beat Tarver in their first fight.I don't think that Jones came in the 3rd Tarver fight to win but just to show that he could survive and not get ko'd.Sad end for a once great champion.Tarver is not an all time great probably not even Top 20.He lost to Eric Harding who was a decent fighter but nothing great. Then was being beaten easily for 3 rounds in the rematch until his power turned things around. He refused to give Glen Johnson the rubbermatch that he deserved. How can anyone take him seriously as an all time great lhw when he talks about fighting Mike Tyson. For christs sakes leave Tyson alone he's shot and has no desire but of course that's how Tarver has made a name for himself.Beating a shot Jones with a blind punch and he even talks about a fourth fight with Jones.Fight a good, prime lhw or how about a crusierweight. Why not fight Bell or Braithewaite.Wait I have the perfect fight for him.Virgil Hill he's 42 that is about the age that he likes them to be.Well better not fight Hill he still has something left in the tank give him a couple of more years than fight him.

Yeah Attribute based boxers like RJJ, Prince Naseem etc, as soon as they lose their speed and instinct, they drop very rapidly.
The guys who box using regular fundamentals (keeping hands up etc) can go longer after their physical peak
Speedy, slick boxers tend to go South pretty quickly. After the Johnson fight, my gut told me Roy would never be the same. Roy has clearly decided the paycheck is more important than bowing out gracefully and admitting, as a boxer, you are not and never will be the same.
Anyone who thought Roy actually gave a shit in the third Tarver fight is a total fool. He wasnt there to fight. He wasnt there to redeem himself. He was there for the money.
I just dont see how a boxing fan could give a damn about him anymore.
Roy did give a shit, as evidenced by his hard training for that fight and winning of 3-4 rounds. But he got tired and then hurt, and he was somewhat afraid but he wasn't ONLY there to survive, even if that was his foremost concern.
If you think fighters should fight as long as they feel they can then just take one good look at Medrick Taylor and see the outcome of that choice(at one point the next SRL, now the man can barely speak). I want too see boxers fighting in top form, I'm not looking to see someone past their prime get knocked out,and if they fight long enough killed.
great point!
yeah, jones jr. had a great career, beat a lot of fighters, knocked out a lot of them, but should have knocked out many more then he did.
in my opinion what made jones great was his power, but as we all know as soon as he went up in weight going for the knock-out was no longer the case with him.
jones jr. always pointed to gerald mccellans illness, for an excuse as to why he always goes 12 rounds, well, i don't know what happend to the roy who used to think safty first, but if this roy of today had the charector with the old roy, roy would have been even greater, he a good fighter, many say great so i aggree, but where he stands among those greats im not sure cause in his career i feel he ducked a few fighters and as another p4p fighter used to pick his opponets, but for the roy jones jr. fans of course roy fought his share of good fighters.
and my take on tarver v. jones jr. 3, is that roy was just trying to survive that fight was his to win. but roy proved to himself and boxing fans that he has balls to stand up and take a beating and try to keep on winning but he just played it a bit to safe with tarver in their third fight.
and tarver will lose to hopkins.

RJJ was one of the P4P fighters of our era. His legacy is set in stone, and that wont change. For several year no on went the distance with him, there arent many fighters that can say that.
Tarver fought RJJ way past his prime, and lucky for him he had no where near the miles on him RJJ did at the time.
That's all fine and dandy, but May 15, 2004 will never be forgotten by this fan.
Tarver KO2 Jones
Roy was once described as the biggest waste of talent to ever step in a boxing ring. I tend to agree. My boy Tarver whooped his ass, and that's the only reason I wanted Jones to keep winning...all wins right up until Tarver. Tarver did what I said he'd do for years and knock the piece of trash out. Good riddance, Jones, boxing does not need you or the example you set throughout your career.

Because he isn't extremely old(like hopkins), I don't mind him going out there and facing opponents so I can see him get knocked out some more.
I agree in that I don't really care as long as he gets knocked out again. Tarver exposed the man as a coward who wilts under pressure. But I'm also eager to see Hopkins get his ass handed to him by Tarver as well. I gotta tell ya, Tarver is like my personal cleanup man, beating the shit out of the guys I never liked. Of course Hopkins DID fight the best available to him for the majority of his career and HE shouldn't be held accountable for the Roy rematch never materializing in 2002. But the way he complained after the Taylor fights really makes me eager to see him on the canvas and Tarver gloating over him.

o yea, jones sure does need money. luckily u said i can be critical, so i can call u stupid for saying jones just needs the money.
True i believe Roy should hang his gloves up but still legends like Holyfield & Roy Jones still put Bums on seats and thts the reason their still fighting 4 the money, and many boxers like Roy and Holyfeild who have never done notning but Box and have Fans Shouting their names and cheering them on prob miss the fans effection, and its also 2 do with their state off minds Holyfield stills believes he is the same boxer who faced the Tysons & Bowes in his prime but he rele ant, also Roy also.
If everyone who wasn't a legitimate threat to win a world title just quit because they weren't at that level, we would only have a handful of fighters active right now. If he can sell tickets, and someone's willing to pay him, he should keep fighting if he wants to...
that is exactly how it should be, only a handful of champions, not dozens

I'm hoping that Hopkins(& RJJ, but i'm not so sure about him) go out and give everything they got left for 12 rounds, show just a little glimps of what they once were win or lose. I know Hopkins will retire after the fight but I really hope RJJ does too, both their careers are as complete as they're gonna get. There's No need to go on to the point you look nothing like you once did like Hollyfield & Tyson.
