Do you guys believes more in Gary Shaw and Frank Warren when they
talk about Kessler should pricing himself out. Team Palle offered the exact same amount to Lacy for going to Copenhagen as Kessler asked for going to Florida, but still most guys here says that Kessler priced himself out of a fight against Lacy.
Now Frank Warren said some weeks ago that Kessler “priced” himself out of a fight against Calzaghe (Kessler had offered Calzaghe to fight numerous of times) and then again posters here clap their hands and say “Yes, you are right mr.Gary Shaw and mr. Warren”
Does anyone here actually know how much Kessler asked for the fight? I don’t think so.
There could also be other reasons that both Calzaghe and Lacy did not want to fight Kessler.
Calzaghe has been hyped a lot lately because he beat the hell out of most boxing fans darling, Lacy – but Kessler is a whole other story than Lacy, If you ask me
I guarantee that no more than 20,000 will show up.
20'000 is big for any night of boxing, I think it'll be closer to 35'000 but whatever, will be a great atmosphere regardless of who Calzaghe fights. It'll be his first fight in the Millenium Stadium. First fight since he gained recognition and respect (in some peoples eyes) through beating Lacy. Skelton - Williams is a massive domestic fight, Enzo Macarenelli on the card... AND Amir Khan who has sold a lot of tickets everywhere he goes! Should be a massive night for British Boxing
I think the problem is with Frank Warren, Calzaghes promoter. He is the biggest promoter in UK, but he doesn't really deliver the big fights abroad.
I mean he was with Ricky Hatton for upto 39 fights, before getting a fight for a world title and all the fights were in UK. So Ricky Hatton left Frank Warren and got fights against Carlos Maussa and Luis Collazo.
Same with Joe Calzaghe, he beat Chris Eubank in 1997 for the WBO world title and for 40 fights he fought in UK, except for maybe 2 fights in Germany. He was WBO champion for 9 years, and Frank Warren could not sort out a fight with the other belt holders, until this year for the unification fight with Jeff Lacy.
I guaranteed that Calzaghe at his best would humiliate Lacy with ease, probably because I was the only one on here who'd ever seen him fight.
Who did you predict to win the lacy calzaghe fight and in what round?
I guarantee that no more than 20,000 will show up.
Yes and how many people will buy a ticket to a fight when you don`t know who Calzaghe shall fight against
Well when Warren says he priced him out, i dont necessarily believe that, but when kessler doesnt release a statement that tells how much he asked for i think that adds value to what warren is saying.
I ran into this article on http://ringsidereport.com/ and i have to give this guy right
HBO has set aside July 8th as a date for Super Middleweight Champion Joe Calzaghe. Some things never change with Calzaghe however. He still will not give up his home field advantage, opting to fight in Cardiff, Wales. His opponent is not currently set which disturbs me. HBO is notorious for letting their contract fighters take on soft opposition. Calzaghe is also notorious for fighting racking up meaningless title defenses against unworthy opponents. This hook up between HBO and Joe Calzaghe does not look promising at this point, especially since Calzaghe was given a date no matter who he fights. Team Calzaghe have looked at a couple of possible opponents. Allan Green was initially rumored which would have been a joke. Green is an untested prospect, not a world class contender. At this point in time Kelly Pavlik is the leading candidate to be Joe's opposition on July 8th. Pavlik is a bit more seasoned than Gree,n but I still have major problems with this choice. Kelly is in the process of transitioning from a prospect to a contender. Pavlik is also a natural middleweight that would have to move up in weight to fight Calzaghe. As if "The Pride of Wales" did not have enough advantages with his championship experience and fighting in his hometown he needs to seek out underdeveloped prospects from lower weight classes. All the cards would be stacked against Pavlik is he is chosen as Calzaghe's opponent. Hey Joe, try picking on someone your own size and someone on your own level. Mikkel Kessler is the only fighter that Calzaghe should be seeking out. Champions deserve a fight off after partaking in a superfight, but if Kessler is not on the menu by 2007, Calzaghe should be ashamed of himself. Joe has spent years fighting handpicked foes and it appears that nothing has changed because I have never even heard him say the name Mikkel Kessler

The guy who wrote this article seems to have a big problem with Calzaghe fighting in Wales next.
How many boxers have had the chance to fight in front of 80,000 fans in a venue the size of Millenium Stadium? Not many.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see him fight Kessler since that's the most competitive fight for him at 168, but that's Frank Warren for you.

I don't believe it if that's what they're saying. Why would Kessler price himself out when he's trying to get recognition? It's not like he isn't ready for Lacy/Calzaghe/Beyer
