Sharmba did not look half bad against Jose Luis Cruz. A Margarito-Mitchell fight would show whether or not Margarito can deal with a relatively quick opponent. An impressive win and he would have a real case for fighting PBF. A loss or a lackluster showing however and we won't have to waste our time with Mayweather v. Margarito. Margarito looks painfully slow and inefficient in the clips I have seen. This would give him a chance to try to tighten up his style before trying to fight Mayweather.
joking right? Margo has a better chin and stamnia and workrate, reach, he's prime..etc etc tect etctectecteccetyecetcettect........:tapedshut
Although I didn't think Mitchell looked as bad as everyone made him out to be at 147, he really just seemed unable to put all the ingredients of his game together at that point in his career.
Listen... Paul Williams stopped this guy, like with power punches. Margarito would have his ass out of there in less than 6 rounds, for sure.
EDIT: I have no idea why you felt the need to bump such an old thread. I was sure feared would be behind this thread being brought back up...
I like Margorito and he won't back down from anybody but to say he dominated I disagree. Who did he dominate that's done something? And I'd pick him if they fought but lets not say he dominated quite yet.
better a few years ago
Sharmba Mitchell looked pretty good in his last fight against Jose Luis Cruz, but he didn't dominate the fight and some people thought it was even or that Cruz won by a shade. Cruz is slow, especially on his feet, and Margarito is better than Cruz in almost every way. If Margarito fought Mitchell today it wouldn't be close. Mitchell would be running and grabbing a lot just to survive. He can't hurt Margarito and he's also shorter and not as good a puncher. It sounds like a mismatch to me. A few years ago Mitchell was faster and might have had the legs to stay away better, but nobody has successfully fought Margarito that way yet that I've seen.
mitchell will expose margarito. mitchell has the advantage over margarito in everything besides power.
margarito is wide open for mitchells combos that he thrwos over and over. mitchell is very accurate and will box circles around margarito for an easy decision.
BS. Mitchell was hit often by the slow as molasses Jose Luiz Cruz. Mitchell would get waxed by the much bigger Margarito.
Full stop.
The fight would benifit nobody. Margarito would get a win that means even less than Mayweather's, Mitchell win. And Mitchell would most likely get a bad beat down.
This is an interesting matchup.Sharmba impressed me in the Cruz fight.I thought that he was a bit shop worn but he still has his quickness and can still throw combinations. The problem is it seems like everytime he faces a stronger opponet he gets ko'd.Tszyu was stronger and ko'd him. There is no doubt that Margarito is bigger and stronger than Mitchell. Also Mitchell doesn't have the best chin considering he has been ko'd in all five of his losses.Of course the first tko loss to Kostya was because of his knee. It's hard to see this older version of Sharmba beating a bigger, stronger, and in his prime Margarito.
Kermit Cintron, Andrew "6 heads" Lewis, Antonio Diaz - all of which were former world champions.
De La Hoya, Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather are frightened of the guy.
still mitchell was an A level guy not an elite because he has lost to the elites he has fought. People know who mitchel is and what he can do and he will be the best name on margaritos resume. Mitchel is better than anyone marg has faught. If mitchel can let his hands go to land leather and have good movement he could beat marg but I dought that is going to happen marg ko within 8

margarito will easily win. Never been a big fan of mitchell i think he is over rated. Some would say the same about margarito though but that's their opinion! I take margarito in 6!
is this some sort of joke? Margarito has all but dominated the welterweight division and ya'll think Sharmba would be even any type of threat? Margarito would destroy Sharmba, and this is coming from a guy who is one of Sharmba's biggest fans. I was a big fan prior to the Kostya fight of what the man was getting done in the ring, considered him along with everybody else the best 140 pounder at one point and picked him to beat Kostya.
Margarito by death.
Who has he dominated in the welter division???

My point is he has to fight somebody who the boxing public has some amount of respect for. Basically what arum seemed to be trying to do was to protect him and pray he would somehow beat Mayweather and become a huge star. He has not done enough to deserve the opportunity. Mitchell could be a means of building a resume and providing a point of reference for evaluating how he would do against Mayweather.
Could be good but Arum know's Mitchell is a vet and if Margotito wins ppl wil say he's old etc. .And if Margorito loses then his future big paydays go bye bye. So a good fighter but with more zing to it because he wants PBF and if Hatton looks good and PBF beats Oscar then the public will probably desire this and leave him behind. Basicly I think if he wants PBF then he's gotta fight a young name opponent next.
