If Oscar beats Floyd, people will say that he beat a much smaller man in Floyd. It was a mismatch and to be expected. If Floyd beats Oscar, Floyd will posibly get branded as the best fighter of all time for climbimg the 154lbs weightclass, beating de la hoya, and getting a 5th World title for his 5th division. The fight won't even be about Oscar, it'll be about Floyd. Anyone else sees it this way?
could be right, but all i see is a fighter -mayweather- whos only reason to fight delahoya is for the money
Fighting de la hoya isn't just about the money. Beating de la hoya is more rewarding than beating Margarito. One, Floyd would put a legend in his resume (assuming he wins). Two, he'll win a 5th world title in a his 5th weight class. Three, a possible praise of being the best of all time at such a young age of 29.
Yes the money is definitely there, but this is more about legacy in the boxing game for Floyd in my opinion.
If Hopkins can make a name for himself beatin up lil guys...Than so can Oscar lol..
thats funny, but hey, delahoya already made a name for himself before mayweather

** Sorta like you were a lose/lose proposition for you parents, eh?
I completely disagree. 1st off how can you say that Floyd looks big at 147? Floyd looked small at 140 and was basically the same size because he only came into the ring at 146. How can Floyd look big at 147 when he only came in at 146 and others come in at around 160? No way Floyd & Oscar have the same frame because Oscar is much taller and he shoudve never been at 130 anyway. Also dont forget that Oscar fought at 160 and again, Floyd only came into the ring at 146 for a 147 pound fight. Thats unheard of.
2nd, Oscar's win last night proves his best days arent behind him. People are ripping Oscar basically for getting beat by X and looking crappy against Sturm but he shouldnt have been at 160 anyway. At 154 he has beaten Mayorga, Vargas, and really beat Mosley.
PS-Whats up with your name? Do you have anything to do with Mech?
1- Yes, Oscar fought at 160, and looked terrible and lost- like you just said "He shouldn't have been at 160 anyway." So what exactly is your point of saying Oscar was at 160. Even last night, look at Oscar, he didn't look overly slim or cut at all. I'd say 147 is actually the correct weight for Oscar to be at, judging from how his body looks at 154. I think slimming down 7 pounds would benefit Oscar and be perfect for him to fight at.
2- Yes, I realize Floyd came in at 146. You notice I commented on how he "looked." He looked far bigger than Mitchell in their fight, even though Mitchell came in weighing more. Don't get so hung up on weight.
3- Floyd is 2 inches shorter than Oscar and they have an almost identical reach.
4- Oscar's best days are behind him. Just because he stops Mayorga, don't think he's getting better or hasn't slipped a little. He has. If you think he hasn't, then you simply haven't watched his career and need to.
5- I don't know who or what "Mech" is. I've had this name since 1999 when I played the original Unreal Tournament online in leagues.
I don't see Floyd as a "much smaller man" than DLH. Floyd looks big at 147 and DLH started at 130, just like Floyd. Frame-wise they are very close in size. Weight-wise they are fairly close as well.
But DLH's best days are well behind him, so I think it's actually Floyd who has nothing to gain. If he beats him, so what? Most would say that the DLH of the mid-90's would beat him. If Floyd loses, then a past-his-best DLH beat him, and then you have to start really looking at Floyd's resume. Really his most impressive win was against Corrales. He's 1-1 with Castillo, in 2 boring as hell fights where nothing was really solved. Since then, he's dodged the best fights.
I'd give DLH a serious chance, even past his best, to beat Floyd.I completely disagree. 1st off how can you say that Floyd looks big at 147? You guys are all wrong. Floyd will clearly be much smaller then Oscar at 154 but its not the 1st time it has happened in boxing. If Oscar wins then he will still get alot of credit for that victory.
How can beating the #1 pound for pound guy be a loss? Add to that people hate Floyd and love Oscar, so you know Oscar will get the credit and the money would be unmatched.
Bottom line is how can people not give Oscar credit when before the Mayorga fight "no one" was picking Oscar to beat Floyd even at 154
at 154lbs, Oscar is expected to beat Floyd in my opinion. Floyd is best at 140lbs and he'll fight Oscar 14lbs away from his territory. That's a big disadvantage.
I'm just wondering how much credit someone would give to a fighter who is as big as Floyd and happens to beat him when people would actually praise De la hoya big time when he's the one to do it. De la hoya should be favored in this fight.

not at all. if oscar wins this fight he goes on to show that his dominace over the lower divisions has been long standing and he was able to take his successor down bfore retireing. if oscar beats floyd it is a good situation for them both and if floyd beats oscar it is also good for them both. if floyd wins then he gets to beat his predecessor and show that he is now on top, and oscar gets to go out with a bang.
Oscar has already established his place in boxing history. A fight with PBF is all about the money. Its the best option for Oscar, as he will probably sign PBF to his GoldenBoy Promotions, so if he wins he solidifies his place in history as one of the greats and if he loses to him he still promotes his next 2 or 3 fights and makes millions.
They both win the moment the contact is signed.
I see this fight as a passing of the torch fight. De La Hoya performed well against a popular journeyman, but Mayweather is a different type of animal. De La Hoya might pull it off, he's got a great shot, but I don't pick anyone over Mayweather.
I think if the fight happens at 147 they can't say that. If its a catchweight of 150-151 then maybe you are right and yoiu are certianly right if it happens at 154. THat said, boxing fans are overreactionary so there would probably be 150 posts saying that Floyd wasn't that good anyways. People are idiots. Some people want to say Oscar is the best fighter alive after last night because he beat a guy he was supposed to while others don't want to give him any credit. There is no context to anything being said today
