They seem to be the most talked about heavyweight prospects
around today. So who do you think has a better chance of becoming
a world champion someday?Sam Peter or Calvin Brock?Peter has the
power, but Brock has way more skill.I would favor Brock. How about
you?
Brock almost severed his opponents head in his last fight. It was brutal. It remains to be seen if he can bring that kind of power to bear on a regular basis. If he can...then he has a shot.
The nigerian sloth is a one dimensional train wreck waiting to happen. If it hasnt happened already against WK. Zero head movement, sloppy wide shots, no angles, no handspeed, no footwork.....just clubbing power. Not enough.
Samuel Peter.
His chin is made of Iron, He's one of the hardest punchers I've ever seen if not the hardest, and his will is inpenetrable.
you need to understand that he went the full 12 rounds with an absolute monster with accuracy in Wladimir Klitschko. He absorbed a tremendous amount of punishment, that hardly any heavyweights could withstand. None actually....except Peter.
he also has zero boxing skill. he looks like a fucking retarded amateur. the only reason that everyone he fights doesnt just tee off is because of that punch. but if that punch is so mighty how did lamon brewster and corrie sanders take out klitschko and peter couldnt? down, yeah, but not out.
plus, as tough as he is, everyone has a limit for punishment. he can keep getting popped all night, but it will add up eventually. look at a guy like frazier who took 2 or 3 to land one, it really fucked him up over time. plus he could box, he just chose to use that style. he didnt get his head popped all night because he was a terrible fucking boxer, like peter is.
yeah, heavyweights have to have a punch, but its like saying a car has to have wheels. heavyweights have a punch, pretty much all the time. dont let a loser like chris byrd fool you, any heavyweight worth his jock will have a punch. but the name of the game is boxing, not punching, in the end. theres been plenty of big punchers through history that didnt become champs, and its because they werent good enough boxers. YOU CANT KNOCK THEM ALL OUT, no one ever has.
the first guy who is a decent boxer withstood the storm and boxed him to pieces over the course of the fight. take a look at peters record, a bunch of fucking nobodys! the second best fighter on his record is taurus sykes!
brock has enough pop, hes got heart, a good chin, and pretty fucking good boxing skills, considering the overall heavyweight skill level right now. he doesnt have too great of a resume either, though, cliff etienne doesnt count and mccline looked unusually shitty in their fight. tom yankello is a great trainer and has gotten a lot out of not much. hes about as good as he'll ever get, and thats not good enough. still, hes light years beyond peter.
neither of these guys would has a chance in hell only a few years ago, and forget about it before that, but with schmucks like valuev and liakhovich holding belts, they may become "champions" after all.
i'd favor calvin brock over peter for his boxing skills. remember, this is boxing and not a toughman competition.
calvin brock has been, very gradually, stepping up his competition. he's taking it slow, but methodically. that's usually a good idea as he has taken the time to refine his boxing skills so he does not get completely outclassed when he fights an "A" caliber opponent. he has an alright resume for a young heavyweight, and it will be interesting to see where he is at 2 or 3 years from now.
now, peter on the other hand, stepped way up in comp to fight klitschko, and ever since then seems to be content fighting guys who will pad his record but make it look even worse. he also has the crudest, most undeveloped boxing skills of any player in the top ten. and, what drives me nuts, is that he continues to throw seemingly blatant, power rabbit punches and i have yet to see him warned for it. peter's assets, or asset, is his powerfull punches. wk didn't try to chin check him, as there was no need to, but still wobbled peter. so peter's chin is still a question, as is his heart untill he faces a constant pressure of some sort and comes away successfull from it.
that's my view - brock is more "trained" and would seem to be a better all around fighter. i hope peter doesn't get a free pass at a title or a mandatory spot without having to actually fight a top 5/top 10 opponent.
I like Brock more than Peter.
Didn't like him the first time I heard of him and saw him...thought "the boxing banker" was the gayest nick ever. His last handful of fights have impressed me more though...not so much because of his opposition or anything, just from the skills and intangibles he's shown.
He's solid all around, and shows up ready to fight. He's picked himself up off the canvas to win, which is an admirable thing. I like how he uses both of his hands and takes his time to beat his opponents. He's an intelligent heavyweight fighter.
I think Brock/Peter would look like Brock/McCline.
My sentiments pretty much.
Both can be champs tho,Brock on Skill,Peter on Power.
Although..Am i the only one annoyed at Peters clubbing Rabbit punches? How long can he get away with that? Or do you guys think its not really a big deal?
They both have the will to win, which is huge in the division these days, but neither of them has the total package. Then again, do ANY of the heavyweights? I see Peter knocking out someone for a meaningless belt. Brock? Not so much
I see Brock winning a decision for a meaningless belt.
Sam Peter would take Brock out in one round.
I say Peter beats Rahman, Brewster, Liakhovich, and Valuev. Brock has a 50/50 shot against all four of these. Peter is the future, just from pure power. If he just works a bit on his skills.
I disagree, but i think peter has a chance against any top HW and Brock may not.
Peter always will have that puncher's chance against literally anyone, where if calvin is outmatched skill wise, he will lose.
I like Brock more than Peter.

Samuel Peter.
I've always and still think he's the real deal. Alot of people aren't impressed with him as a fighter, but I am. He might not have the best record when it comes to opposition beaten....but what I see from him is pretty damn good. He's nothing short of a complete sherman tank.
His chin is made of Iron, He's one of the hardest punchers I've ever seen if not the hardest, and his will is inpenetrable.
That's all you need to be a great heavyweight champion. If he could learn to cut the ring off a tad bit better, he'd be virtually unbeatable.
I don't think people realize how good his chin is. In fact.....you need to understand that he went the full 12 rounds with an absolute monster with accuracy in Wladimir Klitschko. He absorbed a tremendous amount of punishment, that hardly any heavyweights could withstand. None actually....except Peter.
lets not go overboard. he has a good chin but wlad was boxing cautiously and not putting full power into his right hands. he was too worried of getting countered and as manny steward said,,wlad let him off the hook many times when peter would miss a punch and get off balance

If that.
That would be a highlight reel knockout waiting to happen.
Peter had his test with one of the greats in the division Wlad and was very competitive in the fight, in my opionion, even knocking down Wlad once (no the other 2 were not legit). Brock fought McCline, who is a joke and was beat by past-prime Byrd, and even McCline knocked down Brock. Imagine what someone with power would do to McCline. Brock's latest win was over a 20-10 fighter, and he claims that he is fighting on undercards to build up his market, well fight someone with a chance if you want to do that.
Peter destroys Brock.
Calvin Brock is an unknown. With Sam Peter, we know what the deal is. He punches the hardest in the division and has the best chin too. With the state of the heavyweight division, that's all you may need to be a champ.
Some may say, that Peter may be just another David Tua, but hey, at least there's no Lennox Lewis in this weight class right now. Peter can be more successful than Brock. Brock seems like the guy that may get exposed when real threat gets in front of him.
with Peter going at it with Vlad, we have a better picture of him. I need to see Brock against the Rahmans, Vlads, Brewsters etc before I sign off on him. Remember his first real fight was against Mccline and he got dropped before going on to win.
Sam Peter would take Brock out in one round.
If that.

I personally feel they both have a good shot at a trinkett someday.Peter more so because of his youth and Power.....But Brock has more skills and good power but he is not as explosive.
