I have never really liked Joe but i have always respected him. But last night for some reason i felt really saddened to see him hit the bag. It was just such a difference between Smoking Joe and just joe. The man is such a shell of what he was in his prime.
Anyone else see this?
Let's keep in mind that Joe has diabetes and suffered from high blood pressure all through his career which led to his swelling in the Ali fights.
He actually looks slim compared to his prime so he's doing damn fine for an aging diabetic.
He was fine singing. It was actually a pleasure to see him on stage because he seemed to be having such a great time and moved pretty damn well.
Watching him hit the heavybag was just so depressing to anyone who's seen footage of Frazier training in his prime. It wasn't just that his punches had no power, but he looked to be having trouble just staying up with each punch thrown. He looked very off balance. Maybe he had a few drinks earlier before the broadcast, but I don't think that's the case.
Joe Frazier was such a great fighter and I have so much love and respect for him that it really saddens me to think of him as frail or vulnerable. Just a few years ago I saw him live on the undercard of one of his daughter's fights and he did a bit of shadow boxing when they called him into the ring. He looked pretty quick and coordinated then, and this was a handful of years ago, so I was totally caught off guard last night.
i missed him on the bag but i thought he looked pretty good on stage. his voice didnt sound bad and he looks genuinely happy when he smiled
and that is really the only thing that matters. I could care less about how he hits the bag.
that is exactly how i felt about it,
then they top it off with him singing on stage

I wanna see the clip but what did you all expect out of ol' Joe. He aint fighting anytime soon so who cares? If he hit the bag with ko power, he'd be some kind of freak or something.
he still has more heart then that sad excuse for a man harrison.
You won't get an arguement from me in that regard.

dead on... he is 40 years past his prime fighting age. he still threw more punches last night than Audley Harrison did. 67yr old frazier ud over Harrison....lol
Damn that's almost so sad it's true.

I've seen Ali hit the bag and it's not such a bad sight. I was actually afraid Frazier was going to fall off balance and flat on his face on television. Have you seen it Joey? He is obviously in very poor condition as a result from his career, in some ways (like when it comes to hitting the bag) worse than Ali.
see i dunno i think its kinda cool its cool for them to bring him on tv and show youngsters joe and give him exposer ...maybe if he gets more exposer people around philly will know him more then rocky balboa :(
to me thats embarresing...i say what ever gets him his exposer let him have it ... how good is a 60-70 year old man suposed to look on a bag? its kinda like watching a 70 year old marathon runner...he isnt in top shape but the fact that your watching him do it is rather glorifing that hes able to do it at that age
No I didn't, I hadn't heard about it actually. Would anyone happen to have a clip?
I don't have a clip of him hitting the bag but I got a clip where he was ripping berto v. garcia...
There was a thread about this last night, dunno where it went.
Yeah, it was a terrible scene. I can't believe they let it go on so long. "One, two, three....OK, great Joe! Thanks!" That's how it should have been.
