Freddie Roach has informed **********.com that a bout between super middleweight king Joe Calzaghea and Contender Star Peter Manfredo Jr is in the works. According to Roach, Manfredo has already agreed to take the fight in England, but the Contender Group and Team Manfredo must come to a mutual understanding for the bout to take place. More to follow, including a full interview with Freddie Roach.
WTF is right.
Zaghe beating Manfredo means what?
Joe doesnt need any "easy" fight like alot of guys deserve when they take someone's belt. But, Zaghe had his easy fight with Lacy. he needs to keep the momentum going, Fredo's mnothing!
After reading several articles on Joe Calzaghe, I don't think he cares to make a name for himself in the U.S. In fact, I read that he only wants to fight two more times and then retire. So, it sounds like he's trying to take an "easy" fight as one of his last.
Looks like I was totally wrong on this one. However, I think Joe said 3 or 4 fights before retiring.
To even think that he would turn down a chance to win a belt at Light Heavy and instead opt to fight a no name light Manfredo, is just a frigging joke. You beat Lacy, have two belts, enter the P4P list, make a name for yourself in America. Have America in awe at your performance and then opt to take on Manfredo as your next bout.

we all know that this is just a SHOWCASE fight for JC to show everyone in america he can beat the Shit out off poor Manfredo, ant notn else but i nice easy pay day 4 him, should get JC in with someone whos got a chance Taylor,Tarver maybe even Adamek, still i only think Taylor could beat him.
freddie roach was wrong. there is no calzaghe v manfredo. the real fight in discussion is lacy v manfredo.
Oh my, that's even worse! He will be killed if this is a serious boxing match!!! (Contender may bribe him to...their all fake bums!)
If Calzaghe loses (He may be bribed Mod Style) then I lose all respect for him and The Contender(Which I hate anyway!) The Contender is fake as wrestling, just look what they are doing to our sport, killing it even faster.
if this fight happens, if be willing to put 500 mill to someones billion that peter wins.
why you ask??
because i like manfredo
(not in this fight, just his personality)
The kid's 25 & 3 with 10 or 12 knockouts & two of his losses came to Mora...another Game Show Host with boxing gloves on.
I can`t take him seriously because he just KO'd Pemberton do you?
That's the only name on the guy's record that really merits mention
AND NO WAY IN HELL A REALITY SHOW STAR BEATS KESSLER, MUNDINE, OR ANY OTHER SMW OUT THERE
Kessler is a style nightmare for the Welshman. Calzaghe has never dared to mess with a slick counterpuncher, not ONCE, beware of one with a world class jab like Kessler. No wonder he has ducked the Dane methodically for the past four years or so
Peters in this, as most are for the money. I agree that Calazaghe is far superior to him but hey, he would pick up a NICE paycheck if the fight did go down. Win or lose that money would be in the bank for a loooong time.
Rockin' :boxing:
Oh hell yeah.
Credit to Manfredo for the prospect of this fight if it does fall through. I have a gut feeling he wouldn't shy away from Calzaghe's punches in the time he does last in the ring also.
Let me make it so clear that I don't have to repeat myself.
If the fight does in fact take place, and Manfredo runs away from Calzaghe like Hakkar did against Hopkins, I'll really have to shake my head negatively.
If he does indeed decide to go toe to toe with Calzaghe, and put on a show for the fans:
I'd love to see Manfredo in the ring against someone else after that fight takes place.
The guys who die by the sword in the ring, are the guys who should continue to get paid the big bucks.
Bar none.

If this fight were to take place, and in the US, think of the PPV money back in England. Even if the venue didn't sell out there would be a lot of money involved. The English would love this one, and beating Manfredo although not a stetch by any means would add to Calgazhe's popularity for sure. But who would he fight next, Sergio Mora? I hope Joe Calzaghe opts to fight a true Super Middleweight instead of Peter, maybe even a unification bout or something...
I'm not a big Calzaghe fan, but the man is a helluva fighter. I predicted a Lacy win, and ate my words. There's no way in hell I give Manfredo a chance if this one goes down. I think Tarver would have a decent shot of winning a close decision, and Kessler would be competitive, but I wouldn't bet on either of them. As a matter of fact, I'd love to see Joe give Tarver a beating. However, I think it would be a close fight.
Not that i would bet on Peter, but he has really good skills and and very quick, i think it could be a better fight then expected.
No offense, but it's hard to take that prediction seriously when you're also betting on Mayorga and Byrd. I think Calzaghe would outclass Manfredo. Peter looked great against Pemberton, but Scott should've retired after the Lacy fight. Manfredo has two losses (one that he was robbed) against Sergio Mora. Calzaghe is worlds better than Mora, and much better than Manfredo. I think Calzaghe would shut Peter out. This is a stupid move for Joe, and I don't see this happening. Beating Roy Jones does nothing for Joe right now, either, but it would be a huge payday. I couldn't blame him for looking for retirement money at this stage of his career, but his biggest test would be a bout with Antonio Tarver, and a big win would surely place him in the top 3-5 P4P in the world. I've also heard talk of Calzaghe vs. the winner of Taylor-Wright, but I don't see either of those guys, especially Wright moving up to 168, and there's no way Joe's dropping to 160. I always respected Calzaghe, and thought he was an excellent fighter, but he eclipsed all expectations in his easy victory over Lacy. At this point of his career, anything besides a superfight seems to be a waste of time for me. He could hang with anybody from 160-175, and I want to see him against the best. Tarver and Mikkel Kessler would be his two biggest tests, IMO, and I really can't think of any other guys that would grab my attention. Critics knocked him for years because of his lack of competition, and taking easy fights would only make the arguments of the neigh-sayers valid.
That's Byron Mitchell who was a very good fighter and hard hitter, he actually beat Jeff Lacy in one round at the 1996 Golden Gloves (when Lacy was in his PRIME).
Yeah Calzaghe and Mitchell were doing their job. Seriously.
That's the stuff I like to see inside the ring. I used to be a tad more sold on the whole "defense and footwork" thing. That's not my fortee' any more.
All I want to see are two guys fighting like that in the ring. A battle of attrition/pier 6 brawl.

Manfredo could hope and pray he simply avoids wild, fast, free swinging punches like these ones, and I don't think he would.

Credit MechSlave for that clip, but this shows how Joe fights like a real fucking man inside the ring.
Unreal how fast his hooking punches are, it's a joke. Those are just the hooking punches...his straight ones are much faster.

This would be a very marketable fight - but not a very interesting one. Big names fighting and I think Manfredo would be lucky if he managed to make it past round 4. Easy meat for Calzaghe, it would just be to try to build up to a bigger fight with Tarver.
