i mean we all know his defense the shoulder rolls so why not jus go for his shoulders and pound those for rounds and rounds if u cant get the body or face. i mean his arms will get tired from picking his hands up. and then his defense and handspeed will be thrown out the window. thats what rocky marciano did and he was very successful. ppl see the head and wanna attack it instead of thinking smart
One of the things that Floyd is also good at is, not telling his opponet when he is hurt. You can hit Floyd and think he is not hurting when in fact he is, but as you've mentioned he can take pain. But in this, Floyd fools some of his opponets so they resort to a differnt attack, forgetting to keep the same steady attack.
Take a look at Chavez v. Taylor. Chavez fought Taylor with a steady attack and Taylor didn't seem to flinch, till the attack by Chavez finally took its toll and the same punchs Taylor was able to take earlier in the fight he was unable to shake off the same punchs in the later rounds. And this was because Chavez keep the same steady attack.
Boy, you are dead on the money with that right there.
Alot of fighters when hit will smile at their opponent, or shake their head. In most cases that is a sign that the punch actually hurt.
I really don't think it is in Floyd's case. And you're correct...I think alot of fighters were discouraged from continuing something that may have been working, because they thought in reality it wasn't.
But.
I still say it's easier said than done in Floyd's case, considering he's such a gymrat and works on his conditioning to the max.

Every possible place you could try attacking,
Augustus attacked.
If Floyd's body was a sheet of paper, and Augustus hands were ink stamps....he covered the paper with ink and no white was still showing.
I'll have to see this fight then, I'll watch it today.

Did he also include a body attack, a head attack?
Another thing fighters don't do as much or don't know how -without getting a point taken- is how to hit the opponets hips. This alone will whear a fighter down, tire his legs.

gatti tried to do that and look what happened!
They were in bunches.
And in the sense of breaking someone down, when they are a sitting duck in the corner like Floyd was purposely trying to be.....that's how you would do it.
Augustus let his hands go and was throwing punches like he had a problem with authority, on every part of his torso.

I'm certain you've seen his fight with Augustus.
that's virtually all Emmanuel did....was try the exact tactic you are describing. He let his hands go on his shoulders, body, hell everywhere he could.
Floyd shook all the punches off and they had little or no effect on him as the fight progressed.
And augustus is not featherfisted in my opinion.
Id have to review that fight again, but my opinion wont change.

Guess you haven't seen the fights against Castillo, Chavez, or Augustus. All they hit was shoulders against Floyd. Guess those are scored higher than a headshot by some people who had those fights close.
What you failed to point out is that it wasn't a steady attack by Castillo. Floyd ain't going to be a willing target, he was moving against Castillo, even against Chavez but Chavez didn't have the power yet he was winning a lot of rounds so in my opinion it was effective when Chavez did that against Mayweather. Castillo and Chavez may have fought Mayweather similar but it wasn't the same style or aggresion.
I totally disaggree. Its not like that is the only thing a fighter should do against him, im saying add that attack against him. Do what you are doing but add a arm, attack. Its all about breaking him down with a steady attack.

Sure he felt the body shots, he's not a machine.
But the fact remains the body shots had little or no effect on the outcome of the fight. If the body punches don't break him down....there is absolutely no sense in throwing them.
They generally don't earn the respect from the judges in comparison to hard shots on the chin. I still say that's where JLC fucked up in those fights.
And saying he "fucked up" is a ridiculous statement, but he did in fact lose the fights on the judges scorecards.

Sure, that's an effective tactic.
I'm only discussing this in the case of Floyd Mayweather Jr...and I think Floyd would love for people to target his shoulders. That would actually make his day, because like mentioned earlier....he'll just land uppercutts on the inside when someone is caught reaching.
In my best estimation, the only way to beat him is to either wrecklessly take the fight to him, take some to land one on the chin.....or to beat him at his own game. Something we haven't seen anyone else do because of the lack of pure boxers in the relative divisions.
In fact...there really are none at the top tier.
well not jsu go for the shoulders. jus if thats the only thing thats open. sense he has a very good defense

After awhile of hitting him on the arms he wouldn't throw it much more. And block his uppercuts when he is throwing them.
honestly i think some1 with a decent punch with that away mayweathers speed but this would take at least 7 or 8 rounds though
That about the rounds where a sound body attack would eventually start to show, or show on a fighter in a fight.
I forgot what round it was but Castillo hit Mayweather with some good body punchs and Mayweather felt them as he backed away.
