Both Donovan Razor Ruddock and David Tua had tremendous power in their left hand.
In my view their power was pretty equal. Who do you think was the harder hitter of the two? I'd have to go with Ruddock, but it really is very close.
I'd give it to Tua. First time i sawe Tua's left hook it actually scared me. Oh man, i think he could've knocked out almost any HW ever with his left hook.
Ruddock had a shitload of power too. I've seen some of his KO's and they were great, but i feel like Tua puts way more force in his punches.
Good post. The Ruddock - Michael Dokes knockout was scary I think.
Tua seems to put everything into his left hook, while Ruddock does not appear that reckless all the time. :) I still think Ruddock hits harder, though. :p

yeah...I loved it when lewis started hoppin and jabbing at the same time like ali right before he knocked tyson out...priceless
Lewis was the better boxer that night (hated his holding, though). But he is giving himself too much credit for that win. A prime Tyson destroys any version of Lewis.
yeah it could have been a more apeasing win...I think if he fought Tua the way he fought Tyson, everybody would have praised the victory more
Absolutely true. The thing just is, though, Lewis would have fought Tyson the way he fought Tua, had he been able to. Lennox already was affected by his age, that made for a more interesting bout.
i dunno if it was fear. tua's left hook was well known. lennox was cautious to say the least but ince he started working and landing that jab, score the "w" for lewis
I just think a man of Lewis' size, power and talent would have been able to beat Tua in a more masculine way. Lennox, who is an all-time-great, won fair and square, it's just a matter of taste how you judge his performance that night. :)

I saw both Ruddock and Tua fight many times. Their styles were totally different but they did each have a giant left hook. Ruddock had broad shoulders and a long reach and could throw his hybrid left hook/uppercut from farther away than Tua could, but Tua's left hook was just as powerful and Tua delivered it more quickly on the inside. I've seen several of Tua's early knockouts, against Ruiz, Darroll Wilson and Obed Sullivan, and in each of those fights Tua's opponents didn't see the left hook coming until they were already nailed by it.
Even though I didn't like the way Lennox Lewis or Chris Byrd fought Tua, they each had a healthy respect for Tua's left hook. Their attitude was that it's better to bore the audience and maybe hear some boos while boxing from the outside and tying up inside than to entertain them by slugging with Tua and getting themselves knocked out! :o
Very good post. I know Lennox was cautious, but for me his way of boxing Tua ... he seemed to be so scared.
it's close

true...I'll still take a prime tua with his big left hooks to the body...he could move a bulldozer with that punch
I miss those times ... Tua - Ibeabuchi and stuff. :)
