I think there are some small similarities between the two, but Tyson did it a lot better. I would say they were even in left hand power. Tyson had better movement and defense though.
Tua tries to move in that similar fashion, but his chin keeps him from perfecting his defense. He can always rely on his chin, and not have to worry about defense too much...
Does anyone here think Tua could win a belt again?
doubtful. he's 35. sluggers like him usually are done by 30.
he could've won a belt though if he had better management. rahman , ruiz , maskaev , oquendo , etc. had multiple belts or multiple chances at a belt and tua koed all of them. rahman , ruiz and maskaev were younger and much better when they lost to tua than when they got their belts too imo. oquendo got multiple chances at a belt and he got koed by the past prime fat tua.
fight a lot like mike tyson?
i think he does.
similar but that's due to both being short for a heavyweight.
tyson has far better handspeed and defense. mike also has much better skills.
tua has solid skills but with his short reach and height is always gonna eat a jab from a good boxer. his punching power and durable chin gets the fight to go his way most of the time though.
The fact remains that the only guy to ever stand toe to toe with Tua and be reasonably succesful at it, is Ike Ibeabuchi.
That was one of the best hw fights of the 90's and it was extremely close. Tua had Ike for about 5 rounds in a row but the damage had already been done
i like tua or i should say used to like tua. i still root for him , but he's wasted a lot of his time and talent.
when he was active in fights and threw alot of punches he was good and fun to watch. when he didn't he was boring to watch until he landed a big punch somewhere in the fight and usually it would be over after that.
tua has the punch to be HW champ, but his training discipline and mind set are not all there or together. so basically he's pissing away any opportunity that he has on being a HW champ or even contender right now.
funny note, after the almost decapitation of ruiz. ruiz has had a better career than tua. ruiz went on the be HW champ more than once. tua aint done dick...kind of strange that it would unfold like that. who'd a thought that anyone could comeback after getting KO'd the way ruiz got KO'd against tua..........especially after that KO!
I'm talking about prime versus prime, but thats just my opinion, Tua would not be intimitated, would have equal power, a great chin, great heart, Tyson would have to knock Tua out cold, which would be awfully awfully hard for him do with bare fists.
One things for sure, I would've loved to see that fight.
If they were to fight today I would agree, both fighters in their prime, Tyson kills Tua.
There was a time long ago when Tyson had the heart of a champion. Long ago .. .
See Tyson/Ruddock for one example.

I tell you guys what, Tua would take Tyson in a real fight, i don't care what people say, David Tua is more of a man han Tyson will ever be, i'm sorry.

Tua is the prime example as to how far having a big punch can take you. It's also his only boxing skill.
Also I don't think Tua ever won a title, unless your thinking of the USBA or the NABF
In regards to Tyson, he and Tua both fight a punchers fight plan, but Tyson was much more skilled in every catagory.
They are both shorter power punchers who leap in with left hooks, but in his prime, Tyson showed more head movement and used his right had a lot better.
So yes, and no.
to compare tua to tyson is an insult to tyson the boxer . tua wasent fit to carry tysons jockstrap .
In terms of boxing ability... yes, but in tems of power, chin , heart and just being a nice guy, i think Tua takes it.
Toney is flat footed, unlike Byrd, but anyway, Tua seems to be on the downside these days so i think theres not much point talking about these fights unless he improves.
 he still moves faster then Tua ...he can pick him off all night with the right and his jab ...thats what i was saying ...hold him back
James is a smart guy i think he would be in shape for the fight and hold Tua off like Byrd did ...but yes if he can land  it's not good for James

Tua could beat any heavyweight out there today if they stood toe to toe with him and just slugged away. There aren't that many heavyweights that fight that way, but some guys like to fight on the inside, while others are too slow or out of shape to stick and move for very long. Tua could beat all those guys. I'm of the opinion that Tua would knock out James Toney if they fought today.
I would "dance a little jig" if Toney decided to fight Tua, but it ain't gonna happen.
