i agree with El Sniper that Freddie Roach is the best.
I have seen him train with my cousin Vanes up close and personal, and the man really is amazing. So soft spoken, yet gets his points across very effectively.
I say Freddie Roach. He has trained at least 17 champions in his stable since he started training. He holds the record for being the youngest trainer to ever have a champion. Next to Manny he is more active and he's been quoted saying that he has many more years of training to do regardless of his condition. BTW I picked up Freddies DVD on TITLE and it had allot of good training info.
All three are good trainers but Stewart is the best of the three imo.He took two fighters who had shaky chins Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko and made it almost a nonfactor. He also taught Wlad and Vitali how to use their height affectively. He trained big punchers Thomas Hearns and Gerald McCllelan. He trained Michael Moorer at lhw where he was very succesful.
Well if were going Old School trainers that are not currently training any fighters I would toss Eddie Futch's name into the hat.
Bob Foster, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Alexis Arguello, Marlon Starling, Virgil Hill, Wayne McCullough, Michael Spinks, Larry Holmes, and Riddick Bowe.
He also trained and helped develope strategies that lead to Ali's first 2 losses.
But out of the current trainers I still think Joe Goosen's name should've been added to the poll.
How many other fighters other champions other than DLH does Roger Mayweather train?
Roger Mayweather doesn't train Ocsar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Sr. trains De La Hoya. Roger Mayweather trains Floyd Mayweather Jr. I'm not sure who else. I know he was working with Rahman fairly recently but not right now. I think he also might train Laila Ali.
Manny because of his longevity in the sport
but i think people need to give Roach more credit, trainers can't win fights, only fighters can and i don't believe Pacquiao would honestly be in the top position he's in right now without Freddy.
I think it's no contest. Freddie Roach is the best of that bunch and probably the best in the world right now.
Nice bet on Lacy, BTW, did you pay already?
Should had gone with Cotto, easy pick. :boxing:
I think your missing one more top trainer in your list Joe Goosen, he trained Shane Mosley, Michael Nunn, Diego Corrales, Gabriel and Rafael Ruelas, and Juan Lazcano. He is an emotional trainer who tells his fighters straight. I loved in the Diego vs Castillo I when he told Diego "What did I tell you its all about balls" between rounds and in the tenth round after putting back in Diego's mouth piece said "Now you gotta fucking go after his ass".
There are alot of trainers out there who say oh your winning or great job and blow smoke up there fighters butts but he tells them exactly how he see's it. I'm glad he also pulled Diego out of Castillo 3 due to injury, because we all know Diego being the warrior he is would've still fought.
mcgirt gets way too much credit imo
he was the hot trainer there for a while but hes too damn overstretched between boxers
how many boxers has mcgirt trained in the last 5 or so years since he became a trainer
way too many i think
hes a good trainer please dont think im dissing him cause im not at all
i just think he overworked himself to be truly effective as he coulda been
roach and stewart are both excellent trainers
i put them both in the elite trainer category right there next to goose
them three are above all else right now
and i think mayweather sr is an average at best trainer
dlh just likes having a yes man and someone easily disposable
dlh may as well have sterling mcpherson as his trainer
guess mcpherson is too annoying even for dlh
i think out of the bunch - roach is the more overrated one. hes had more failure in his career IMO and was just lucky to come across the talent that is manny p.
i have to go w/ steward - hearns, lewis and moorer. niiiiice :)
