Did he shut your fucking mouth tonight or what? Rahman fought a great plan and probably deserved the win in a close fight. I scored 6 rounds for Rahman, maybe 7 on a second look. Like Roy Jones Jr said, the only heavyweight who has a chance against Toney is Rahman. I told all of you that Rahman is a great fighter but he is UNFORTUNATE. He is an up and down fighter and I didn't wanna see him win tonight because if he had you know for a fact he'd lose his next fight because that's what he does. It's better this way, I guess. Rock put up a great fight that most people had him winning, and Toney isn't out of the picture yet. And this isn't a case of Toney being fat or old because he fought the same. They both fought their fights, and Rahman is a great fighter. I hope all you fuckers show him some respect now.
well, i never believed rahman to be a bum, but i don't see him as a top tier heavyweight or as a fighter capable of being a major force in the current division.
i would say that rahman most certainly did not fight the smartest fight. hasim definitely fell for a lot of toney's little veteran tricks. now, that raises a question - did rahman even study toney's previous fights? it seems like his trainers were the only guys that new better than to follow toney into the ropes. in fact they had mentioned it many times, yet for some reason rahman persisted in following toney around. for an experienced veteran that hasim is supposed to be, he sure seems to have a low ring IQ. and i didn't even mention the phonebooth style of fighting which rahman should've avoided as it's another one of toney's strengths.
while i certainly agree with most people that rahman should've won, he clearly made it harder than it needed to be. and rahman's own trainers had said virtually the exact same thing i was thinking while watching the fight - "you're making it harder than it has to be." i definitely feel that rahman should've kept jt at the end of his punches and maintained a good amount of space between him and jt throughout the fight for the most part.
i've already established that i felt toney should've lost, but even if i felt that it was a legit draw, that is not a compliment for hasim rahman - a natural and more experienced heavyweight who has been in the ring with the likes of tua, a slightly younger holyfield, and lennox lewis.
When I say "decent", I'm pretty much saying he fought average for a TITLE FIGHT. This wasn't just some tune-up dude, this was a career-defining fight that he pretty much let slip away, although I thought he won. I mean c'mon, who the hell is gonna remember this fight 5 years from now? It was lame.
Yea but it was against a very slick and skilled fighter. It was a test for both, and even though james didn't show up in good shape he stilled displayed the skills that has defined his career against an opponent who is expierienced in the heavyweight division.. Rahman showed and displayed the best he had to offer, ive never seen him fight like he did. Even though his career is defined by his KO win against lewis, if rahman fought every heavyweight title fight like he did against james toney.. he has a chance of unifying them. You have to understand that it is hard to land a right hand, rahmans best punch, against a slick counter puncher like james toney. we need to see a rematch!!
Rahman fought decent at the beginning of the fight? If you compare it to his past performances, this was one of rocks best performances IMO and james still seemed to get the draw, although it could have went either way. Rahman pressed on and on and never seemed to get weary, and even at the end of the fight didn't look as gassed as I have seen him in past fights. he was in great shape Rahman fought a very good fight last night, its just that toney is such a skilled fighter its hard to adapt to his style.

Rahman fought decent in the beginning of the fight, but nothing to raise your eyebrows at...and this is a fight for the WBC title!! Rahman and Toney last night showed us just how bad some of these so-called "champions" really are. If you think last night's fight was championship-caliber, how about I kick you in the nuts right before I let you watch the first Bowe-Holyfield fight. With the exception of Wlad and Brewster, the heavyweight division is nothing but a bunch of plodding big men.

i think wlad SHOULD batter rahman from pillar to post but if rahman
starts fast & keeps it up the fight could well be over inside 6-8rds.
chris byrd on the other hand has no chance against wlad, rahman,
toney, brewster, ruiz or valuev. (ok maybe thats just rudely harsh)
Byrd does not have much of a chance against Wlad, and Valuev may be too big and strong, but I would pick Byrd to beat any of the other guys you mentioned there.
Rahman is a great fighter. I was one of the FEW who thought he'd win. And i believe he won.
Great fighter? no, but he could have been if he was consistant in showing up in shape like he did for toney. Both fighters still put on one hell of a show, and one of the best heavyweight fights I have seen recently
Think about it this way. Rahman the guy that knocked out Lennox Lewis ith one shot had a plan of boxing a blown up fighter. Thing is, Rahman isn't a boxer and he got a draw against this blown up fighter.
He came in his best shape in years and still was very sluggish and slow in the ring. Not only that, Toney was hitting Rahman flushly with haymakers telegraphed too.
He is still a bum in my eyes.
overtrained probably, that and he's getting older too with a lot of miles on the tires. Training for that long has to leave a little in the gym, even if you are a heavy that doesn't need to make weight. Realistically, thats about the best that you can get out of ROck at this stage in his career
He weighed 240 lbs and threw 80 punches a round, cut him some slack lol
he did he utilized his jab but threw maybe one real power shot- he was efficient and thats all
It was a tough fight to score but I had Rock winning 116-112. But it all depends on what u like, sharp crisp punching(Toney) or workrate(Rahman), I preferred Rock's workrate. If Toney comes in shape, he dismantles Rahman.
As for Rock, yeah he fought a good, focused fight, obviously he was in pretty good shape. But his defense is VERY leaky and a guy like Wlad would exploit that, unless Rock catches him with a big shot and uses his jab, I see him getting KOed by Wlad.

Im not a toney fan by any means, but if he did come in to fight in shape and not straight from the donut shoppe, he would have won tonight. Thats karma biting him though for being so fat
hasim rahman is NOT a great fighter
no but at the same token he isnt a no talent bum like a lot of people made him out to be. he is just par for the course in this substandard heavyweight era. Good at times but not great
he did do very well and I saw him winning in a very close fight but was not impressed with his lack of aggression. he did not go afer Toney even tho he had his jab working fine.Toney faired well against his first real HW but neither fighter deserves too much praise IMO.
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
