I feel as though this is a fair comparison. What do you guys think?
nope, ali was able to come back and still win good fights after norton and jones is spent.
ROFL Holmes was better then Ali? on the basis that he beat him in 1980 when he had parkinsons disease? I really hope your joking. Ali took out 3 greats and had the physical assets before his lay-off to pick Holmes to pieces.
yeah, that does make sense. like norton really HAD ali's number, while tarver, in a sense got lucky at his timing. perphaps there were others who roy fought earlier in his career, that were probably better than tarver that could have done what tarver did
Norton would always trouble Ali, but in 67... Ali's lateral movement would let him get away with the flaws norton exposed.
no i think Tarver to RJJ was like Holmes to Ali, BETTER
Tarver is just a better fighter than RJJ ever was, just like Holmes was better than ALI, neither will ever get the credit though because they beat them later in their careers. Norton wasn't that great where as Tarver has beaten everyone he has faced.
I think there is an important difference. Ali's other opponents could not reproduce Norton's results. But Glen Johnson was able to reproduce Tarver's results. He just ignored Roy's speed, kept applying pressure, and punched when Roy punched.
uhhhhhhh, no.
you know what i meant when i said ali's prime. i meant up until say 1976, maybe. but yes, his physcial prime was '60 to '67.
hahaha without a doubt....your a hater
roy jones is one of the greatest fighters of all time.
and ali's prime wasnt when he was fighting, a prime ali was the one who fought liston....pre 3rd year layoff.

of course not! norton never exposed ali. both were in their primes when they fought. norton broke ali's jaw in the 1st round of their first fight and went the distance, what are the odds of jones doing that? norton's upset was a one time thing (even though the 3rd fight couldve or shouldve gone to norton) against ali. and neither fighter KOd the other with one punch.
there is no comparison.

well i think it was someting in tarver's rythm, that he kind of leaned and backed up just enough that roy counldnt counter. i dont think it was something he did on purpose, but it was something that came naturally to him when he fights and roy just couldnt get the hang of it
I think that's a fair assessment. Tarver's height/range factored into that too, but you're probably right about the rhythm. Roy was tentative of being caught on his way in.
Somewhat valid...their (KN/MA) fight history didn't really look anything like Jones/Tarver though.
Norton also did more distinct things to Ali to disrupt him...such as jabbing with him and timing a lot of his power shots. Tarver just used his natural size and battered Jones against the ropes in their 1st and 3rd bouts.

i think tarver took advantage of a not in his prime roy jones.
norton fought ali after his layoff but ali was definitely younger than jones was,
because of this, even if ali and jones were on the same level, I think norton deserves more credit than tarver
