I just saw Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns in a clip by clip fight... So I started looking at their records and it seems like there was a round about war between some fighters... So I wanted to get everyones opinion... Who is the best fighter out of these four?
I would also like to know WHY you all chose that person.
Roberto Duran
Thomas Hearns
Marvin Hagler
Ray Leonard
Wilfred Benitez was part of that great period as well. He beat Duran and gave Leonard and Hearns trouble too. Duran is my pick for P4P best. But his record against this group isn't great. if you score it like a round robin, Leonard had the best record
Yeah, Benitez was a nice mix in there although he was A caliber these others were A+, I would also say Duran P4P, I mean coming up in so much weight and beating a prime SRL, thats a feat within itself. Either way its undisputed that all these guys added to the alore of boxing and were great champs.
You know what would be great if we could talk about Hatton, Castillo, Cotto, PBF in the same manner in 10 years. Hopefully they'll do a sort of round robin like all these other great champs did.

not sure why anyone would say his victory was questionable over tommie or hagler...He stopped tommie,,,even though leonard was considred to lighter puncher,,etc..he backed tommie up in this fight in the 3rd, 6th 7th , 8th, 13th, then stopped him in the 14tht....he hurt him bad in 4 of those rounds..tommie had to be carried from the ring..now for hagler...if a person knows how to judge a fight on a 10 pt must system, then this is a easy fight to score...no leoanrd did not hurt hagler, but the goal is to win the boxing match...not ko hagler..hagller never been down or truly hurt ( he was stunned by hearns not hurt). Leonard boxed haglers ears off in the rounds that he had legs..and when hagler elected to go orthodox...I am giving hagler every benefit of the doubt by giving him 5 rounds...he really did not deserve the 5th..and the 9th could have been called a draw..hagler gave away the 1st 4 rounds....gave them away....finally keep this mind..leonard came out of retirment hagler was not far from his peak contrary to popular belief..was he slow in that fight yes, but he has always looked slow again st fast fighters or faster fighters..look at the 1983 duran fight...So if anything leoanrd should have been ko;d, we should be praising a welterweight who came out of retirment the most part of 5 yrs, and moved up 2 weight classes and beat a middleweight who is considered by many as one of fights games top fighters ever, has not lost in 10yrs, ko ray's biggest challenger in hearns in 3, and beat his other in duran...No we have people continue to not know what the true object of boxing is , hit not get hit, dominant the spacing and movement and angles in the ring, have more often and better meaning exchanges than your partner, follow the rules, be able to talk years after the fight....hmmm hearns should have listen, cant talk, got ko'd and didnt win the belt,,,but he gave you all 3 great rounds of his ass getting kicked because he did not understand the goal.....win the fight.
Hagler - Simply Marvelous
Hearns - IMHO 1st fight againts ray was stopped prematurely + the stupid draw
Leonard - His victory over Hearns and Hagler were questionable. he is my favorite at the time these 4 were fighting
Duran - All different story @135
crazy question. Lets see leoanrd simply abandoned his boxing ability and "elected" to go toe to toe with duran when he was very green to big fights...and lost a majority decision by one point...Hmmm in the return fight he humiliated duran, and forced him to quit,,so duran could not fight leoanrds style...3rd fight after leoanrd was retired 5 years..he won almost every round...hmmm ray on that one.
Ray hearns in their peak ray fought hearns...and while hearns has the physical stature to simply cause any welterweight fits and he had arguable the hardest right hand in welterweight history..he could only box ray using his reach...he could not mix it up with ray as almost everytime they had a meaningbul exchange, leonard hurt him..round 6,7, 13, and finally the 14th....leoanrd took tommys best punch and walked right through it...ray switched styles to beat tommy and this fight was when they both were at their best...Ray on that one..
Hagler..Hagler was simply awesome destroyed all comers..but if you look closely he destroyed all comers that came to him and slugged..one dimensional...he could box somewhat, but could not deal with speed..antefirmo was a slick fighter..caused hagler some problems.,,duran in 83 was fast for what hagler was used to caused hagler major problems...and ray leoanrd 5 years removed, very rusty actually not rusty but a shell of himself. was able to make hagler miss, countered him etc..simpl because hagler is a counter fighter and a slugger,,,he has to set his feet like trinidad for a whole second then throw...leonard simply employed side to side movement and this frusterated hagler and cause him to lunge, lead, and miss, leonard then tied him up afther the lunge or after he got off, and this allowed ray to cntrol this fight, even though he had nothing after round 4...Now roll this back to 82 when leoanrd made a 29 yr old duran miss, and went toe to toe with hearns, and outboxed the counter punch king benitez,,,leoanrd in 82 destroyes hagler...why if you look at hagler in 83 vs duran he could not handle speed, and leoanrd was twice as fast as duran, and leonard would move like he did in duran two..but his counters would be easier because hagler was a slower bigger man...no ray might not hurt hagler,,,but ray in his prime was in shape, and had a great jaw..so we are talking about a `12 round mismatch unless hagler lands the ko punch,,and if we go off what they actually did in the ring..leoanrd never went down prior to 84 (retirment)....hmmmm ray on this one..
So ray beat all of them...duran beat him once, and hearns got a disputed draw when they were both well past their primes...ray moved up after 5 yrs beats hagler..hmmmm i think with out question ray leoanrd is the best of this bunch....
summarise this book fo rme please

P4P Duran, hands down. Even career accomplishment-wise it's him, IMO.
But SRL was the most gifted of the four. Like Gringo says though, all of them were all-time greats. Just super super boxers who happened to inhabit the same decade and fight each other. What a great era that was...
Hagler was one of the most dominant middleweight champions ever.Tommy Hearns was one of the best punchers ever.Roberto Duran was one of the best lightweights ever.I have to go with Ray Leonard he was one of the most naturally gifted fighters ever, he was a champ in 5 weight divisions,he beat all three of the other fighters mentioned.IMO he's the best of the bunch.
p4p Duran
matchup wise Hagler or Leonard
All three of those guys were pretty much top 2-3 in a respective weight class for my money.
Leonard @ 147
Hearns @ 154
Hagler @ 160
Duran @ 135
