Just heard Hopkins on the radio speaking about the fight.
My issue, is that despite thinking Bernard narrowly won both Taylor fights, it's clear that at his age he's only capeable of throwing so many shots a round. It was clear that he makes up for that by using ring savvy, clinching, and slowing the pace of his opponent.
Tarver imo is over rated, and not very special. But he's bigger and younger than Hopkins, and he takes a good shot. The way to beat Tarver is to out work him, wear him down, and win more rounds.
This sounds like everything that Hopkins isn't capeable of doing at this point late in his career.
I wondered why he would take this fight, which I don't see as very win-able for him, and he was asked that on this radio show.
He said straight up that he's weighing 165 right now, and that he needs to put on 10lbs which won't be a problem. He then said he has very good sources telling him Tarver is as high as 210 - 215 lately, and he feels Tarver is going to kill himself (ala Jones) to make the 175 lb limit. He said he feels this really evens out the playing field, and that he's motivated to win the Lt Heavy title as his swan song and exit fight.
I hadn't thought about this.
Does Nard have a chance here?
This fight is going to be disgusting-do not let anyone see this fight that is new to the sport-after viewing 6 rounds of this shit they will never take boxing seriously again.
Both guys think they are worth twice as much as they actually are...there will be a reality check when the PPV numbers come in and only shitheads (like myself) end up ordering the fight.
Antonio Tarver and Bernard Hopkins need to realize 1 thing...they will never be Roy Jones, as much as I dislike Jones prime for prime neither guy is even remotely, remotely, remotely in his league. (what this has to do with anything is anyones guess)
Two pussies who love to pose for $50 bucks...cant fuckng wait!
I don't see Hopkins winning this.
Like bozo said, he'd have to outwork Tarver to win rounds....and if Glen Johnson couldn't do that with his workrate then I don't see Hopkins doing it.
This is not to completely rule out Hopkins...if anyone could outsmart and outbox Tarver it's him. Jabs touched on a very valid point though...it'd be tough for him to get in and out like he likes to do with a rangy, taller opponent in Tarver.
I say Tarver takes a decision, but I'd root for Mr. Hopkins the whole way.
dont know what to say....if tarver can catch a more elusive and quicker old Jones, what makes people think he cant catch B-Hop?Bernards only chance is to hold on and hope he doesnt get hurt.If anything else happens in this fight I will be very surprised.
It's gonna be awfully hard for Bernard to use that move & then dash in style, against a tall guy like Tarver.
Tarver is just an inch taller at 6'2 to Nard at 6'1.
This could be a fight devoid of real action. I'd be curious to see it, but certainly not excited by it.
yeah, right. This fight is going to suck balls, and I really doubt there will be an entertaining moment. I'd have to say the most entertaining thing would be an actual chance for Nard to rob Tarver via SD. I don't think that will happen though, and More than likely Tarver gives him trouble.

hopkins just wants to beat tarver so he can send roy jones e-mails everyday that say " tarver beat you two times and i beat tarver so therefore, me> tarver> roy jones. lol"
Jones & Hopkins will be forever linked, & compared.
If Hopkins does beat Tarver...he will have taken a huge step towards surpassing Roy.

Tarver's gonna whoop that senile bastard into retirement. Another notch in the Magic Man's belt, and more bitterness to flood the boards. haha, I love it.
Hopkins was talking quite a bit about Robinson's quest to fight Maxim and how that really motivates him in this case. I know he'll be hungry, but his age is a big stumbling block here.
Its a crap fight. I get bored just thinking about how it could go. Its a worthless ppv. Bernard and Tarver have taken enough of my money only to show up and half-ass it. Not this time.
I think Tarver could end up really hurting Hopkins badly.
But, Tarver did put on weight for the movie and he looked huge. Hopkins has a point in that Tarver may suffer a bit too much from making weight. This may be enough for Hops to win over the unspectacular Tarver.
Tarver is good. Hops WAS great. Tarver is bigger, but that might play into Nard's hands due to the weight. This is interesting.
but tarver is staying at his weight, while bhop is moving up. its obvious whos the stronger puncher and stronger person and that was my point. i cannot see bhop knocking tarver out
Tarver has to drop 30lbs to make his weight again.
Tarvers last knockout was in May 2004, while Hopkins was in September of the same year. So Hopkins had the more recent knockout.
