Lacy has a ton of momentum and he looks to be a fine contender but Im tellin ya'all now Joe Calzaghe will win this fight.
I dont think he stops Lacy unless it is a bad stoppage (ala Bryan Mitchell) but I like his far superior hand speed and his underrated HEART and I think regardless of what many say the class of fighters he has been in with certainly outweighs that of the still very green Jeff Lacy.
Plus we are talking about fighting at his place...Joe has been disrespected and disrespected and then disrespected some more which is fin- alot of it has been deserving...but...
He will win this fight because Lacy is good but not half as good as people are making him out to be, he will win this fight because he is good...fuck that he is a helluva lot better than people (most of which have barely seen him) have made him out to be.
Joe Fucking Calzaghe baby!
Lets go Joe...I just wanted to let you know that you have some support even in the US-any other Americans pulling for Calzaghe or am I the only diphsit?
ur making a new topic on an already highly talked about fight, to give ur opinion? even tho it means nothing b/c u have never seen either man fight?
and no, im not from florida, i dl lots of his fight, i probably have about half (or did, i deleted some). and ive seen clips of calzaghe, and honestly, i think hes a great fighter, and deserves a lot of respect for being champ for 8 yrs, but like any fighter he has problems, and i pointed out one, this does not make me bias. i j/ think his time is over, and its lacys time now
Listen boy,
Your trying to sit here and talk to me about Calzaghe and wild punching and yet you have only seen clips of him...how the fuck can you call him great for that matter if you have only seen clips.
You really think I have never seen Lacy or Calzaghe fight? Keep in mind if you continue to post then I will continue to play with you...when I deal with youth such as yourself I tend to say one thing when I really mean another...from now on I either command you to understand my humor/style or 2 go away.
Were like brothers me and you were like brothers.

lacys is a SMART puncher, no matter what ppl say. any1 who has seen one of his fights were he happen to not make a fool of the guy in >4 rounds will nkow he punches big when he has the guy hurt, which in some cases is the whole fight (see pemberton fight) but when he is not looking for the KO, he can box, of course not great, but odnt make it out to seem that he just throws huge swinging punches.
btw, have u ever seen either fight more than twice? b/c otherwise i think u wouldve known the above, and that calzaghe is notorious for throwing wide slaps at some points
Ive never seen either one of them fight but from what i hear it should be a pretty good fight, yes?
Are you from Florida-if so that would explain the Calzaghe bias-dont they televsie all of his fights there...yes?
For some reason, I've been having visions of Calzaghe quitting in this one, and I don't think of him as a wuss or a quitter or anything. I see something like Corrales-Freitas going down, and it's crazy because somehow I knew Corrales would be getting beat up and suddenly start dropping Freitas all over the ring.
I could actually see that goin' down, too. Much like Kostya Tszyu against Ricky Hatton. It was a close fight, and Tszyu wasn't out of it. I could see Calzaghe getting frustrated against, IMO, the best fighter he's ever faced. I don't think Lacy will blow him out. I hope he does, but I think it'll be a close fight. I wouldn't be shocked if it played out a lot like the aforementioned fight, or as you put it Corrales-Freitas. The way these two guys quit was totally different, but I could see either scenario playing out.
Calzaghe has just as much tneacity, I think the younger Lacy hits harder but he hits alot wider too, Joe's handspeed should be enought to beat the wild swinging slugger to the punch.

Reid had to train in the hotel lobby for lack of being provided somewhere more "proper" to train when he fought Lacy, and Pemberton was 39 coming into the bout and had engaged in many, many wars. Lacy has american hype written all over him.
The original poster is absolutely right about Lacy's age and he won't be getting much better. Many people forget that he is the same age as Floyd Mayweather yet no one is talking about Floyd 'improving'.
Lacy isn't as polished as Calzaghe and he doesn't have the big fight experience that Calzaghe's got (although he hasn't had many big fights). I think Calzaghe wins. Joe throws a lot of in-tight hooks and can mix his game up a little. Lacy, on the other hand, throws wide looping punches and will get caught by a good puncher like Calzaghe. Even with quicker handspeed, Lacy will be shocked the same way Quarry shocked Shavers. A bold prediction on my part, but I'm pretty sure of it.
"I've fought both and I can tell you, Calzaghe's hand speed is far superior to Lacy's," Reid told the Sun. "Joe will also be much too strong for Lacy. I was surprised how I could easily push Lacy around the ring. For all his reputation, Lacy is nowhere near as strong as Joe and will get beat inside the distance."

sometimes heart cant overcome raw power.
ala foreman fraizer
not that this fight will be anything like that, but if lacy drops joe once, he will finish the fight
Joe does say himself that he is Lazy. To be honest Joe has always been my favourite fighter basically on sky he is what we've been fed for years, well him and Hatton, but Calzaghe appeals to me more he is awesome on his day. I have only seen Lacy once though im just glad he has a big rep, if he beats Joe then he is awesome, because Joe is going to be just as hungry for this, Gary Shaw has rattled him and the shit he gets from Americans critics must stick in his throat, he'll want to make a statement, if he loses everyone outside the UK is going to write him off.
so basically Joe's been unlucky lol....thank god for Jeff Lacy though.
I will not go as far as to absolve Joe completely-he could have come to the states but chose not too.
He always talked about leaving Cardiff but thats all that happened was talk-I love Clazaghe but he cannot be left off the hook completely just like he cannot be blamed completely which is the MO of most American boxing fans.
Thats just it! they came close to getting Hopkins, Joe should have spat his dummy out once he didnt get that fight because Joe would definetely have beaten Hopkins at that time if he did it would have changed the entire complexion of his career. I wish they got Ottke as well just for the hell it, I actually admire Ottke the man was so obviously limited yet reigned for so long which in itself just goes to show how weak the Super middleweight division was. People are super critical of Joe but at the end of the day Hopkins and Jones, he missed out on, there was no one else, even if he fought and beat Glen Johnson he wouldnt get alot of credit since he had already been beaten 10 times.
Im with ya here, had Joe of beaten Glenn Johnson no one would have cared and the same goes for Sven Ottke too.
The only 2 fights out there that would have made a difference were Hopkins and Jones...and if I remember correctly Hopkins pulled out of a deal with Showtime to fight Joe.
Regardless of who pulled out of what fights and who was ducking who Hopkins and Jones were it for Joe and if you follow boxing which is just about everybody on this site then you no how difficult it is to get Nard and Roy in the ring.
He is to blame for not coming over here there is no doubt but what career defining fights were out there for Joe? (its not like if he would have gone over to Germany and KO'd Ottke in 5 rounds anyone would give him credit right?)

Got to agree here, Calzaghe is no mug believe me, Lacy is a good fighter but inexperienced, I'm not saying Lacy cannot win becuase he can but watch Calzaghe he is really talented, like a lot of fighters he lacks self motivation in fights, this is not the case in this fight, he will up his game again and Lacy is in for some fight.
Got to give Lacy respect for coming to the UK to fight Joe though, gone up in my estimation for that alone!
I completely agree with all the above. And just to clarify for everyone, i have tremendous respect for Calzaghe and i'm not just assuming Lacy will dominate here. It should be a very good fight that i feel Lacy will come out victorious, with respect to both fighters equally.
Scap.....
I think this is going to be a more competitive fight than many (Lacy-backers) are predicting.
There's a lot in this fight that Lacy has not yet faced before-
Joe's quick hands, firing out of a lefty stance....Joe's experience.....& fighting way overseas.
Ultimately...I see Lacy's tenacity & power getting to Calzaghe as the rounds go by. Lacy will stop him around the tenth.
Personally, I can't stand how Calzaghe has handled his career. But, I know he's no stiff in the ring.
I dont like how he has hadled his career either, it wouldnt bother me in the slightest if I thought he was a Paul Spadafora or a Sven Ottke...it bothers the fuck out of me because the son of a bitch can fight.
But...
Who should he have faced? Do you think even if he had come over to the states that Bernard Hopkins was going to fight him?
Do you think Roy was ever serious about fighting him?
