With all the threads about the Paq-EM fight, I was wondering if anyone had brought up the extremely biased pro-Morales announcing of Lampley and Steward.
Especially in the early going, they seemed to think that a Morales win was a done deal. I mean, for crying out loud, he was stumbling around after that one shot in the 2nd and they seemed to think it was no big thing. All they could talk about was how much smarter a fighter he was, and how his chin was so strong that Paq would never be able to take him down.
You know, I thought Morales would win myself, but in the early going it was pretty obvious that he was going to have a hard time.
Anyway, if this has already been discussed at length I apologize.
The HBO team's call of Chavez-Taylor, was sickening. They barely acknowledged a thing Chavez did, while going nuts over every Taylor move.
Somebody was breaking Mel's face apart in there, but they didn't seem to notice.
The only real call in that fight Lampley got right was, "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT...LOU DUVA IS GOING TO GO NUTS IN A MINUTE HERE!!!"

I didn't think Lampley was THAT bad on Sat. It is a tough job to keep commenting on the action in an interesting way, so you have to cut him a little slack.
The worst call I ever saw him make was Lewis-McCall 1. He totally freaked out and was screaming about the ref stopping it, and Lennox is still unable to stand without staggering WHILE LAMPLEY IS COMPLAINING. That was absurd. But for the most part I like Lampley and I think he does a good job.
For whoever mentioned their favoritism of Taylor, that's simply because they see Taylor as the future and Hopkins as the past. I would say their age, and their future potential in the sport, was far more influential than a split from a manager. That's to be expected with the old vs. the new, and they were right. There was a passing of the torch and Hopkins is about to retire and Taylor is probably going to start a decent MW reign.
Stewart is actually a fan of Pac's because he admitted it when Pac fought Velazquez. He likes to watch him & said he would favor him in the EM vs. Pac rematch. He was always commenting on Pacs balance because Lampley kept thinking Pac was hurt because when EM would counter Pac & he wouldmake him stumble but as Stewart pointed out it was just bad balance.
This is what I took from it as well. I recall Lampley saying something about how Pac was susceptible to being KD'ed by Erik because he corsses his feet or has bad balance. Maybe that was Manny S though.

Merchant is fVckin funny though. When Morales felt his legs were weak (product of Pac's body assaults), and told interpreter, Merchant was like "Desperation, thy name is a leg rub" LOL!!!!!! :D!! I was like :PWNED beotch, hahaha.
Lampley is, & always was, a fraud of a boxing guy. I've been saying that forever.
He's constantly calling the wrong punch, a punch that didn't land , missing ones that did, or exaggerrating the effect of a blow.
The one prelim the other night (young southpaw, Puerto Rican prospect) KO'd his foe with a right hook. Clear as day in my eyes. But, Lampley couldn't stop screaming that it was a left hand that did the trick.
Just an idea of how bad he is....
There are like three basic punches in boxing, I can't believe how many writers and announcers get it wrong when they talk about this or that punch.
With Andre Ward's last fight everyone said he went down with a left hook, when it was clearly, clearly, a right uppercut that nailed him (Boone tapped him briefly with his left before he went down).

hell yea, and Stewart and Lampley keeps yappin that Morales always comes back after Pac attacks....YEA, but they weren't effective. Most of the punches Erik was landin by mid to late rounds were on shoulders. They weren't landin clean, yet you got Lampley cheering on and Stweart aggreeing. One thing I know is that Lampley and Stweart PRASIED MORALES MORE than Pac throughout that fight despite Pac winning 1 round more.
Well Erik is an HBO fighter. I'm sure the commentators are payed alittle extra to praise their fighter. Though we all know, Merchant has had a keen likeness towards Pacquiao as he seems to enjoy talking with Manny personally, and loves his style. Lampley seems neutral for the most part as, he was amazed at how Manny knocked Marquez down 3 times in the first round, even calling him sensational, though then he can switch and love the other fighter in a second. I think it's just Steward whose got the most biase though he's probably bitter. Steward couldn't get Hamed to do anything to Barrera, then Roach gets Manny to TKO Barrera and be called Trainer of the Year. I think Steward always had some bitter emotion towards Roach and Manny though I can't say for sure, just seems that way. He usually always down credits Manny.
They're announcers...and they were calling the fight as they saw it. You say that they were praising Morales in the first 5 rounds? Maybe, but he was also controlling the fight up until that point and he was giving somewhat of a performance like he gave in the first fight (even though Pacquiao looked much better and was landing a lot more).
Steward acknowledged that Morales had no answer for the straight left and that Manny seemed to be a lot more lively too.
Maybe I just didn't really LISTEN to the announcers that much because I was too upset from seeing my boy get dropped and knocked out for the first time. :(
Watch the replay and I think you'll see what I mean. Manny_P posted all the best examples of what I was talking about.
I think the first 2 rounds were up for grabs, and round 2 easily went to Paq, yet Lampley and Steward could not stop talking about how great Morales was. Rounds 3-5 I'll give you, though they did not make the fight the foregone conclusion that Lampley seemed to think it was.
And, come to think of it, Steward could not shut up about Pac's balance. I know that's an issue with him, but it was a non-factor in this fight from the opening bell. Yet Steward seemed to be wishing for him to trip up.

then this fVcker Jim Lampley was gettin hyper in shyt afta round 2 (EVNthough Pac had a huge round in that one) he goes "Pacquiao's face is already swelling up big product of Morales' excellent jabs".
Shyyyyt, that was Manny's round. Give him the credit you biased piece of shyt!
Manny had Morales reeling in that round and nearly KOed them right then and there. Lampley didn't seem to notice, or didn't want to.
I really frowned at the black guy. He has a big mouth and yet he ate those words by the start of the 5th when it looks like that Morales is fading from the power shots.
That black guy even had the balls to make excuses for Morales after claiming Morales is just too big, too savvy and to strong for PAC to KO. When he was seeing a beating, he started talking a different tune, which was extremely pathetic.
Considering he's a broadcaster and all. The funny thing is, after the fight, he's face looks like he just pissed on his pants and was ashamed he got caught on national tv.
The other guy, well.. he did a good job at comentating and his accent flowed with the pace of the game. Although they say he just goes with the flow.
Larry Merchant did an insightful job as always.
Mercahnat keeps yappin gloves don't matter, and Merchant would always try to expose him errrtime Morales gets hurt by Many's punch.
It's evident though there is a difference. Manny's punches were fuckin cripser when they landed wit Reyes gloves on.
I don't know, Merchant was all over Manny's nuts ever since Pacquiao beat Ledwaba.
He went on and on about the gloves in the first fight, so he is definitely a Paq fan. But hell, he was probably right now when you think about it.
Plus Merchant is there more or less to provide "colour" to the announcing. I don't expect him to be as objective as the other two. Lampley especially should not be favouring any fighter.
o wait what about the fact that Lampley puts a higher emphasis on Morales' punch percentages than Manny's total punches. what about that. He acts like Morales punches better and always concerned about percentages.
he goes, "Morales CONNECTING at higher percentage, Pacquiao throwin alot more but landing at less accuracy" WTF is up wit that?
Pac landed 171 powerpunches you dimwat while Morales landed only 107. Notice the difference Lampley. PAC WHOMPED Terible deal wit it. Shyt we all know that most of that 644 punch numbers of Terible were jabs anyways. He dint hurt Manny. LOL!!!!!!!!!
thn Jim Lampley at the end of 5th round was like "so if the question is, IS THIS FIGHT DIFFERENT FROM LAST TIME, the answer is NOOOO" I felt like punchin his face on the TV. I'm like, you just wait beotch, Pac will get his rythm goin.
Yeah, Lampley's been bitchy as hell lately. I'm sure HBO doesn't appreciate him trashing every fight he calls by like the fourth of fifth round.
then Stewrt acts like he knows errrthing and was already makin excuses fo Morales when Morales says something about his legs. FVCK this shyt. He goes "can't fight witout yo legs"....YEA noooo shyyyt. What about sayin Manny's body attacks did that homie? He cated like Morales had cramps or sum shyt.
