I am a fan of Morales, and think he is a legend, an assured Hall of Famer, and a credit to the sport. But with 1 win in his last four fights, it's safe to say he's on the decline.
My question here is more geared towards asking "Where does he go from here"?
How much does he have left, and what is in store for him should he return?
Does he win another title?
Does he come back at 135 and contend?
Does he retire?
Does he come back and lose fights appearing as a shadow of his former self?
I want to hear what you think is left in Morales' future.
i personally dont think morales should retire, however if he does then here is no shame in that, he is a LEGEND, a HOF fighter and was definatly one of the best boxers in the last 10 years, how many fighters can say they were at the top or near the top for 10 years, i definatly give morales his respect and this is comin from a massive barrera fan.
morales can still come back and win another title, hes only29 years old, i know he has been in a lot of wars but you cant count morales out after a loss, give him time to reat and heal up and he will come back strong. in his last 4 fights he has lost 3 of them, but in all honesty there is NO SHAME whatsoever in losing to barrera, pacman and a very underated raheem, all morales does is test himself, looks for the biggest fights out there, the guys gonna be missed when hes gone, i feel hes a bit underappreciated for what he has done for boxing too. youve heard of the saying "you dont know what you got until its gone" i feel us boxing fans will get htat feeling when morales hangs it up.
morales however will have trouble making 130lbs and he did look sluggish against raheem at 135lbs, i cant see him fighting people at a catch weight of 132 1/2 lbs so perhaps hes body is telling him enough is enough???
i might sound crazy saying this, but if morales wants to come back then it should only be for 2 things, the first option would be to try and avenge his loss to pacman and have a third fight, morales has what it takes to beat pacman, he has proved that already, and the 2nd one is to try and get a belt at lightweight and beome the first (or maybe 2nd if barrera beats chavez) mexican to win titles in 4 weight classes.
he'll be back im sure of it maybe all he needs is a break if he still wants to fight he should if he dont want to he dont need to he dont have much to prove anymore hes already done it.
yup. Erik's a warrior. Definitely the best Mexican fighta in lower weight classs right now (equal wit Barrera). A legend and a definite HOF :boxing:
For once we agree with something. I really do hope that Morales hangs them up. Cheers to Pac he koed some one who had never been koed in his entire career.
Thanks a lot Bozo for this small tribute to a great fighter, I am one of Morales biggest fans but Im not the type to make excuses so Im going to say that it is time for Morales to retire although I would like to see Morales have his farewell fight with some one great and finish him off, I really dont think that will happen. He should just really call it a day he already gave us a lot to remember him by, a Hall of Fame fighter with out a doubt.
Thank you Morales for giving me some of the most memorable fights I have ever seen.

I just want to reply to something I heard in thread after the first Pacquiao fight. Someone said Morales had an iron chin, well not even the great Chavez was invincible, someone always has the other guys number, and Pacquiao seemed to be that guy. I really don't want to see Morales fight ever again. Believe me, I have respect for El Terrible. After Tarver ko'ed Jones, I had him number 2, behind only Hopkins and ahead of Mayweather and Wright. But if he comes back at 135, I think he gets demolished by Castillo and Corrales, gets worn down by Juan Diaz and gets blown away by 1 or 2 young prospects looking for a big name on their resume.
Erik is done he should retire. He gave us great fights for over a decade but its time for him to call it a day.
He has too many problems and mental stresses to contend with on top of the wear his body has obviously taken through numerous wars.
this is what I mean. You say this now, but when Morales fights again, you blab and make prediction like this:
"Morales will win via UD". :D
morales is overrated..his whole career all he did was beat on smaller guys..real legends move up in weight and get out of their comfort zone and still win fights..if he cant beat pacquaio and struggles with barrera..i dont see him doing to well at 135 with the likes of castillo casamayor corrales frietas raheem..and defientely not 140

tsk tsk dont give up on him mi amigo ...
peeps are saying he lost 3 of 4, but who did he loose to?
great fighters like himself MAB, PAC, only Raheem is the odd man out(but Raheem had always been labeled as underachiever but has all the potential to be great)...
give the man couple more fights ...

He is still better than 95% of the fighters at 130....It appears he tires more quickly now whether it was conditioning or the leg rubs or what I don't know but he is only 29 and has to have a little left in his tank lets see Pac/Morales III for the hell of it.
Yeah its not so much that his skills are gone, he's just a worn down fighter and many of his reflexes have left him. In his first fight with Pacquiao, Manny was very energetic leading up until the cut (when he seemed to slow down for a bit) and threw those quick straight lefts and short right hooks a lot. Morales was just a split second quicker and got out of the way of a lot more of those shots. In this second bout he was just slower and couldn't avoid those bombs Pacquiao was slinging his way at all. He had no answer for the stamina and quick hands of PAcquiao this time around.
I think it's just a matter of him having too many knockdown, drag out 12 round wars with top competition. He is a worn down fighter (much like Marvin Hagler was at the end of his career when he turned into more of a brawler) but the difference is Morales can't take quite as much punishment as Hagler...nor is his defense as good.
actually the fight which re-established Marco was the fight against Erik ...
a fight with either or both JMM and MAB is what I am thinking of...
or he can avenge his other 2 losses with PAC and Raheem, it his choice ... IMHO it will all be great fights
MAB re-established himself fighting a washed-up Ayala, a noob Fana and a bum sparmate Peden.
Do you think Morales will stoop that low just to get back?
I don't think he will risk his reputation and do a Barrera-pussy move.
If ever Morales comes back, it will either be with PAC or with Corrales or someone big.
The difference with Morales and Barrera is that the former is a warrior and the latter is a pussy.

Morales would be knocked unconscious by Corrales. That would be a horrendous end to a great career.
Don't fool yourself into believing he could outbox Corrales....Corrales would walk him down, & walk right through him. Morales would not stand up to Corrales' bombs.
