Tony "The Phony" Magarito turns down Floyd....

In other words, Floyd, a Boxingtalk staple, saw everyone on there talking about how he should be fighting Margarito, so he most likely invents this response. Whether or not an offer was made to Margarito or not is meaningless at this point. Margarito has been training for Gomez FOREVER it seems, a fight that was put off from last year with Vitali's injury. So Margarito didn't want to cancel it AGAIN, pay Gomez off- if Gomez would even agree to a reasonable sum, and take a whatever offer Mayweather SUPPOSEDLY made to him. Arum promotes both, so Arum isn't going to come out and deny what Mayweather says, a fighter who is already not a fan favorite and whose competition is definitely in question over the past couple years. Margarito doesn't speak English that I know of. So basically Floyd can say whatever he wants for the fans to believe and nobody is going to contradict him. Floyd has certainly made these kind of statements before, about Winky most notably, and been totally called out and shut the hell up about it for awhile. Now I see he's up to mentioning Winky again. Floyd seems to have his own version of these negotiations, that seem to consist of some magical person other than Arum making these offers to all these fighters who never get them. What's funny is that Floyd was so busy last year calling Judah every name in the book and dismissing him as a joke, and is now busy making any and every excuse he can for him losing, trying to build him back up. It's very clear that Mayweather wants Judah at all costs, simply because he sees it as an easy payday. But really if Floyd wins, then the win, like pretty much all of his since the boring 2002 cautious win over Castillo (which most fans would say put him at 1-1 with Castillo) is a meaningless win. If Floyd wins, then his title, like the 140 lb title, will be paper. Actually, this one would be less than paper- it'd be wet tissue paper. Sure I'd like to see Floyd/Margarito, but hey let Margarito go ahead with his fight in a few weeks and Floyd can go ahead fighting another loser, and then we can see if Arum can put it together in the summer sometime. And Hatton will probably end up fighting the winner in the fall/winter.

What I want to see is Margi vs Hatton with the winner fighting Floyd. Margi vs Hatton would be like Ward and Gatti.

The reason I don't believe it is that it makes no sense. Margarito is simply not a relevant name beyond a small core of boxing fans. He has exactly zero mass appeal. He is Mexican though and alot of times that can sell by itself. Alot of Mexicans would pack the house and buy it
