Red Rooster... Nah, the story is this... When Roy and Gerald fought each other in 88 it was a GREAT fight. I was in camp with both of them a month or so later and Gerald couldn't spar because his jaw was still very sore from the fight with RJ. (He told me so himself).
early, you taking the piss now
Not as much as you are with that quote -- in your sig.
"Get that dog -- off my seats"
"This is a stolen car Tyrone -- these arent, your seats"
"Yeah well, while im at the wheel, this is my car, AWWWIGHT"
when RJJ was in his prime, he hardly ever got hit, and his speed was amazing. McClellan was a bigger puncher, but much slower, and he relied on the power too much. Roy's speed would allow him to land on mcClellan, McClellan would have a hard time finding Roy. Think of Benn - McClellan, Benn was easy to hit, Roy was not. McClellan might knock RJJ down, like Del Valle did, but i think prime RJJ gets up and outboxes McClellan for the rest of the night, later on in the fight, it gets especially ugly for the G man as RJJ would be tripling up the left hook and pot shotting him with combinations. In the early rounds this would be an exciting fight to watch
I don't believe the argument that Roy Jones had a weak chin early in his career, just because he's lost it in the latter part. It is possible for a fighter to lose their chin over time.
Julian Jackson and Nigel Benn hit far harder than Jones ever could, even though Jones was very powerful back then, and McClellan took all their knockout blows. His chin is insane. He's not getting KO'd.
It is said that the punch that hurts you the most is the punch that you don't see coming. I believe with Roy's amazing speed and power, he had the capabilities to KO him.
McClellan was a devastating puncher before his tragic accident, however Roy was a devastating puncher in his middlweight and super middleweight days too. I do not see McClellan winning a decision against Jones. There were reports that McClellan had stamina problems and fades at the end of the fight, while Jones has great stamina. The only way I see McClellan winning this fight is if he catches Jones with a hard punch in the first 4 rounds or so, if not, then Jones wins either by late KO or UD.
1988, Omaha, Nebraska. A great back and forth battle. RJ was on the ropes a lot. As pro.. I think RJ outboxes him... U?

** It seems like Roy avoided the big sluggers of the day. Roy wins any bout on paper, and he did win some good fights against a few great fighters, but GM might have been the first to expose Roy's chin. I'd hate to bet against Roy, but if the odds were good for this fight I might be tempted!
