Just finished watching Mormeck vs. Bell replay, and did anyone else notice how Bell hit Mormeck about 5 times in the back of the head, in clear view of the ref, in the final moments? Should there not have been a warning? Punches to the back of the head are the most dangerous, and the rules are clear about them. Yet, the ref did nothing.
I think it is ridiculous that the action was not stopped so a warning could have been issued, if not a point considering the amount of times it was done.
The commentators were also all over Bell's nuts throughout the later rounds. I hate that.
I had an argument on here once about Benn vs McClellan because the same thing was evident in that fight. Benn never hurt McClellan with legitimate punches, IMO, it was all rabbit punches that did the damage and even stopped the fight, but the ref wasn't there to stop it. Mormeck was lucky to be able to get up smiling. I like the guy and hope he bounces back from this loss which I thought he took very well--he's not only a good fighter but a good sportsman as well. The Zabs and Mayweathers (when it happens to him) should take notes. Boxing needs more Mormecks and less dickheads like these 2.
While I agree with you to some extent, Mormeck was also never told to keep his head up, since he was keeping it down for longer than he should've been allowed.... it just didn't work out too well for him.
The ref allowed a fairly loose fight with plenty of pushing, elbows, and using the shoulders.
I hope he does, but his inactivity really took a toll on his cardio(that and body punches)I can't say for sure it was lack of training, but I got that feel, especialy when you fight once a year.He needs to fight a handfull of cans and get back in the swing of things.
ya it looked like mormeck was just gonna go down(and prolly get up) But that very last shot, when he was virtually on one knee, to the back of the head caked him. Too bad I kinda liked him :(
