Mayweather-Hatton likely in 2006
By Ben Dirs, BBC UK
Floyd Mayweather's trainer says a fight with Ricky Hatton is likely to take place in New York some time in 2006.
Mayweather was set for a super-fight with Zab Judah in April before the latter lost his undisputed welterweight crown to Carlos Baldomir on Saturday.
Roger Mayweather told BBC Sport: "The fact Floyd's fight against Judah is off means a fight against Hatton is much bigger now and much easier to make.
"Floyd wants it, but he isn't going to fight in front of Hatton's home crowd."
Baldomir upsets Judah for title
Floyd Mayweather is a former three-weight world champion and regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing.
He was set to make $6m (£3.4m) from the fight against Judah and he may want to push through a fight with Hatton, the IBF and WBA light welterweight champion, to recoup his losses.
Hatton's going to be a punch bag because he's got no defence
Roger Mayweather
"They're the best in their division so it adds up," added Roger Mayweather, Floyd's uncle. "And people are trying to make it happen."
Hatton's camp recently stated they would like two tune-up fights in America before facing Mayweather, so any match is likely to take place in the winter.
Roger Mayweather said his charge may mark time with a fight against WBC welterweight titlist Baldomir.
And he said his fighter would not be losing any sleep over a showdown with Manchester's Hatton.
"I'm confident Floyd will beat anyone in the world. Hatton's going to be a punch bag because he's got no defence.
"He's a tough guy and takes risks. But against Floyd, those risks are going to cost him."
The thing with the tune-up fights is to get his name more out in America, which means more money, obviously. He's nothing here right now, but he gets a couple impressive wins in the USA, and he's a bigger name, then they get more money. It makes financial sense.
I think that PBF wins but i think its going to be a close fight.Hatton is relentless and will not give up and make it a tough time for PBF.
Mayweather wins by UD 115-113. I even gave the score.

This is so true. Cant wait for the showdown. :boxing:
FLOYD IS GOING TO RIP HATTON!! he needs to tune up fights....come on now.. did kostya tyszu or carlos maussa need to tune up fights to fight hatton in his country??? no so what the hell... hatton has had 40 fights..more than mayweather i think this fight should be made now... floyd hasnt had a fight in awhile and so hasnt hatton...
hatton is ducking
two tune up fights so he can find a place in the states that will accept his referee and his judges!!
yea your right gomez... i just hope floyd does call him out... i know that fight would make alot of money...i personaly think its better than a zab vs floyd
if by no major move you mean attempting to get a fight with hatton and hatton denying saying he needs 2 more tune up fights than i guess your right
Hatton has been planning the tune up fights for quite a while and no actual offer was made to Hatton to fight Floyd. At the moment it's all just talk from Mayweather's camp saying they're ready to go and will do it and such... that's not an offer or even calling Hatton out.
Both need 1 tune up fight.... 2 at moooost. Mayweather I think should fight a tougher opponent at this weight (now that Judah fight is not gonna' happen) and Hatton could use a fight in the states. Nobody's ducking Undefeated, leave the ignorant comments elsewhere. Mayweather's camp has made no major move to try to convince Hatton to fight them. Neither are over anxious at the thought of a good, tough fight.

I don't know if his skin's gotten rougher over the years, but if it hasn't, he's going to get cut against a guy like Mayweather.
It'll be a damn good fight, should it happen, don't get me wrong, I just don't think Hatton will win.
lol, yeah undefeated, i really don't think either is doing any ducking in either party here.. i'd like to see this fight come off this year as well, maybe towards the 3rd quarter or towards the end of 06.
Hatton's due back in may not july so hopefully one tune up fight, to get used to training and fighting in the states and everything that goes with it, then the fight everyone wants to see can happen. Lets just hope it happens!
I think a Floyd/Hatton fight would be what some may have expected from the Floyd/Gatti fight........an entertaining fight and a test for both fighters for different reasons but would end in similar fashion late.Floyd would be just too slick for him in the long run IMO.
No, all you were saying is that you think Hatton is ducking. Which is a joke. I don't believe Mayweather's camp has even made an offer to Hatton's camp, and if they have, it hasn't been a public one.
ok see you could've replyied with that.... lol yea i know....hatton isn't ducking...im just tired of everyone saying hatton can beat everyone!!
it isnt a ingnorant comment so just stay quiet... :bottle:
hatton better get ready for his 1st loss.... i hope hatton does fight dirty..thats all im saying
