I'm thinking the reason Mormeck had looked like such a monster before Saturday night.....was because he faced Braithwaite, whom he outweighed by ten lbs.....& Virgil Hill, a washed-up lt. heavy.
He was able to bull them around while easily taking their punches.
Against Bell, he was actually the lighter guy. He couldn't really hurt Bell, who was supposed to have a weak chin. He became fatigued very quickly, which was probably because he was trying to push around someone as big/bigger then himself.
Mormeck's power is overrated, that's all I have to say about that. He's a big, intimidating dude who doesn't hit nearly as hard as you'd expect him too.
I think Mormeck landed some mega-shots, though. Bell just has a granite chin, but his head was spinning with some of those connects.
Where Mormeck was killed was in his endurance, he simply ran out of gas, Vivian Harris-style. The thing is that he pulled the same stunt before, coasting for the last 4-5 rounds of his fight with Braithwaite, which made the score a lot closer than it should have been. Maybe he just doesn't have it in him to go a full fight.
To answer Super_Lightweight's question, yes, it was "Cowboy" Dale Brown that Bell got a bit of a gift decision against last year. Really Brown could have a lot more consistent in his effort, but on a round-by-round scoring basis he probably should have won the fight.

The fans and the experts really had been overrating Braithwaite for a long time and when he was beaten by Jean Marc he definately got elevated to a status that he probably had not earned quite yet.
Geurillmo Jones and Steve Cunningham are the 2 best crusiers in the world right now and when Cunnigham squares off against Bell you can morgtage your home on it.
His opponet the other night took a lot of great punches. you have to give the guy credit for his Beard. He was hit with some good shots that I think would have rocked some lesser oponents
I don't know about exposed. What you say is true, but Bell fought the fight of his life too. I'd seen quite a few of his fights before and he never looked as 'loose' as he did in this fight. I don't know if it had so much to do with Mormeck as it had to with Bell really stepping up for the occasion.
hmm
It's possible that he undertrained, feeling he was such a badass with his recent successes. I mean, who the fuck does an online poll asking for a nickname right before a big fight?
Hill gave Mormeck loads of trouble but didn't have the power to stop him like Bell did. I suppose Mormeck had the stamina to compete with a older guy like Hill who doesn't hit hard at 190, but Bell was a different story.
All very interesting as it seemed Bell was lucky in one of his recent fights vs a Canadian cruiserweight...maybe that Canadian is one badass mofo. Dale Brown I think it was...
