How do YOU score this round? I picked this one cuz it's one of the more complicated rounds you'll see.
THE ACTION: About 7 seconds in, Tyson knocks Bruno down (it's a shot on the back of the head, but it is ruled a knockdown anyway). From there, it gets rough as Bruno holds and hits like a motherfucker until Richard Steele deducts a point for pinning Tyson on the ropes from behind and hitting him in the back of the head twice. The round continues with both guys trading on the inside in a rough bout. In the last 45 seconds or so, Bruno ROCKS Tyson with a monster left hook. He follows up with some good shots as Tyson holds on for pretty much the rest of the round, with Bruno (legally) hitting him as he holds. NOW SCORE IT before you read my score at the bottom.
I got it 9-8 for Tyson because I felt Bruno won the round with better punches (10-9 Bruno); however, he loses a point for the knockdown, one of the few good shots Tyson lands (9-9); furthermore, Bruno also gets penalized for rabbit punching (9-8 Tyson). Give me karma because this thread is a good test of your ability to score rounds. It also begs the question, do you always give a guy a 10-8 round for scoring a knockdown even if he was beaten up for the rest of the round? I'm tempted to, but I prefer to score them 9-9 even. The only even rounds I ever score are those affected by point deductions.
I'd give it 10-7 for Tyson. Lots of holding, ok, so neither guy was doing that effective of punching. the most effective punches was definitely done by tyson b/c he got the knockdown. Bruno was just trying to stay alive. Survival mode isn't what I call deserving of winning a round. 10-7 Tyson.
I agree, the winner gets 10 points.
I don't know what fight you were watching, but before and during his first fight with Tyson, Bruno didn't seem that scared, at all...He looked raring to go when he hit the ring, and gave a helluva stare towards Tyson during the pre-fight instructions. He also came out attacking right at the opening bell, and even though Tyson dropped him right quickly, Bruno went right back to attacking Tyson after he got up.
It like Larry Merchant once said, sometimes a fighter will throw a lot of punches, because he's NOT confident, and i suppose it's the same as when a fighter looks confident. Bruno was really up for the lewis fight, that was as focused as Bruno ever was.
I thought the 10 point must system meant that one fighter had to get 10 points in every round unless penalized so tyson would have to have 10 becasue of the knockdown.
so by that logic does Bruno get back a point for winning the round? Is it 10-8 Tyson like some have posted?
Bruno was scared of Tyson, maybe if he hadn't of been as scared, he could of beat Tyson, but then again he was always chinny.

you mean 10-7 right?
naw 10-8 1 point for the knock down and still winning the round more then bruno did. but bruno actually hurt tyson at the end which in my opinion wont make it a 10-7 round :)
10-7 Tyson.
The knockdown played a major role on this though. Tyson was hit HARD and hurt because of that. But ofcource Bruno lost points too. It could've gone 10-9 if it wasn't for the rabbit hitting etc. Its not about opnions with this one.
It was also really cool too see Tyson get hurt like that. I mean you dont see that all the time :D

** You got it right, but I doubt half the judges in the world would get it right.
cool, I was wondering if anybody was gonna come up with the same score as me on that. thought I was crazy for a minute

I thought of one. Holyfield-Moorer I. Moorer dominates Holyfield in one of the early rounds. Holyfield lands maybe three punches, one of which drops Moorer. I think two out of three judges scored it 9-9, one had it 10-8 Holyfield. Ended up costing Holyfield the fight actually as he lost by one point on two cards I believe. I'll definitely look that up for you guys.
I certainly lean towards scoring it 10-8 most of the time because in a way you deserve to win the round if you knock the guy down. I think I've only scored it 9-9 like that on maybe three occasions because usually if the round is even or the guy who gets dropped is barely ahead, it still goes 10-8 for the man who caused the knockdown. I'll try to find a few other examples where I scored it 9-9 because it definitely isn't common.
