I've been wondering about this.
Most boxers I see on TV have skinny legs, but pretty big uppa body.
The only ones I see that has big legs evened wit their bodies are Mike Tyson, David Tua and Manny Pacquiao.
Wladimir Klitszchko has skinny legs compared to his body.
Jermain Taylor has skinny legs as well.
Juan Manuel Marquez has thin legs not matched wit his body.
Trinidad, de la hoya, etc........
so how come is this? Don't they work out their legs too? Or is this something they must do?

take another look at trinidad's body composition.
all that running, and jumping rope these guys do builds stamina, but not necessarily strength/power. consequently, that type of exercise tends to make muscle and build more lean (see cyclists, long distance runners, etc.)
not sure how much leg pressing or squats these dudes are doing, but i bet a few of these guys could benefit from some of that work in their regimen
what the fuk does big legs have to do with strong chin. man boxing people make up alot of bullshit, fuken hell. its about ur brain, i dont care if u have 40 inche thighs, if u get punches hard enuf, ur brain cant send nerves to ur legs so they work. and if u got 18" thighs ull prob lose balance more but for getin Ko'd for a 10 count, dats dependent on ur brain
You're wrong about balance. You're right about the brain bit.
I don't think strong legs = strong chin..
Yeah, but it can help with the punch. Most of the better punchers have big, thick thighs. Strong legs help with explosive power.

Boxers workout their legs man! All this rope-skipping and running's gotta have a sense. As I already mentioned they just don't work on power but on speed and stamina.
Now if they would gain more muscles on their legs they a) might not be able to make the weightlimit they fight in anymore and b) loose speed and stamina.
Think about it, the more unneccesary weight you have, they more weight you have to move around the ring. You get slower, you tire faster.
Of course it's about individual genetics as well. Some people tend to have relativly skinny legs, some people gain muscles very easily.
But overall the facts I gave are more or less common knowledge.

u want a strong upper body

also think about this. What about those fightas that want mo dough and move up weight to challenge fo big name fightas? Gaining weight on yo legs would be a good way to accomplish this without sacrificing handpeed. Right? LOL!!!

I agree with wlad. his legs are very skinny compared to the rest of him. I'd think that would be part of the reason why he cant take a punch well. but vitali also has very skinny legs as did holyfield and they had very good chins so who knows for sure

probably from all the running they do. weightlifting such as squats build mass,,,but running actually thins them out. I know from experience

Wlad looks ridiculous!!!!! If his legs were matched wit his uppa body, he'd look great (no homo). I also sometimes thinks that part of the reason he goes down easy from punches is that his legs can't carry that big body load (no homo).

Because they don't kick. They need their legs to be fast and well conditioned. At some stage you'll decrease in speed if you increase in power (muscles).
If you look at long distance runners they always look pretty skinny and have next to none bodyfat. You have to be very well conditioned to even think about going twelve rounds and its quite obvious that speed is a great advantage. So the comparison works.
The extra muscles a boxer has in his upperbody protects him from punches and gives him extra power. That's why boxers come in at a higher weight if they want to overpower their opponent.

Yeah, you either train to stand up straight when getting rocked and get some bodybuilder legs or you train to avoid getting rocked and get some fast and endurable legs. It's all up to you. :D
my legs r like tyson naturally but his legs r 27inches and mine r 24inches. not a big difference between a welterweoght and a heavyweight huh. but if it comes with the territory then fuckin use them for what there worth. but yeah i only see like kickboxers with built legs
