Cotto returns on March 4...against Raul Balbi?
By G. Leon
December 18, 2005 - Moments ago Top Rank chief Bob Arum informed butt-talk.vomit.com that undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion Miguel Cotto will return to the ring on March 4. According to Arum, Cotto will likely face former lightweight champion Raul Balbi in front of what is sure to be a sold out crown in Puerto Rico. There will be more to follow including a full interview with Arum so stay tuned.
This is a complete joke. If Cotto's gonna solidify his dominance in the 140lb division, he can't keep this shit up.
btw
cotto needs to step it up
floys needs to step it up (now, his resume until castillo RULES...)
zab needs to step it up
hatton finally stepped it up (after we all gave him shit for years)
Those four would make a helluva atourney!

Once Trinidad was found by Hopkins to be taping his hands funny he's been a bum since. If he can't cheat and have those heavy hands he's not a hard puncher. Before you try and mention Mayorga getting knocked out, look at the tape. At the start of the 8th round, Mayorga offers his glove, just like they do in the finale round. I think the fight was fixed. Mayorga takes a dive in the 8th. Both fighters are owned by DK. And Da La Hoya was robbed. He wasn't hit by 2 punches in any 20 second period. Yet he put together combo after combo. I haven't ran into anyone who thinks Tringag won.
I heard Manny Steward say that when they made Trinidad wrap his hands correctly it was basically like Superman going into his chamber and coming out a mortal.
Gil Clancy was quoted as saying "I have no doubt in my mind that Corey Spinks has just as good of a left hand as Felix, hell if you put my hand in plaster I can put a couple guys on queer street too"
This is a very interesting quote from a man who has been around and seen it all.
PBF's resume was nothing special at 25 fights. Hernandez was destroyed by DelaHoya. And hernandez, was not considered a "champ" or even "good contender", who has he beat? Anyway, you seem to tell everyone that they are bias in this thread, maybe its you not them?
I cannot believe what I am reading
hernandez lost to dlh at 135, and was unbeaten at 130
in particular he was the man at 130, since he beat carlos hernandez, james leija and AZUMAH NELSON
(I can't believe you ask who has he beat, I don't care if the professor was not in his prime, you can't ask who has he beat if someone beat azumah nelson)
in fact hernandez was considered lineal champ and therefore floyd became lineal (and wbc) champ by winning every round until the stoppage, in his 18th pro fight in the 3rd year of his career.
(cotto won a vacant (and wbo...) belt against an overhyped prospect (pinto))
pbf's wins over hernandez and manfredy gained floyd "ring mag's fighter of the year" in 98
(Where is cotto on the fighters of the year list? nowhere...)
After that, floyd cleaned the house for 3 years and some months beating everyone, (losing very few rounds in the process) including carlos hernandez, jesus chavez, manfredy, corrales, augustus... and then he moved UP
(cotto fights corley, bailey, abdullaev, torres and now this other lightweight, outweighin most by at least 10 pounds)
I am bored I will stop here
Trin-a-gag

Lets not get sidetracked here motherfuckers!
Cotto is a very good fighter make no mistake about it.
Raul Balbi is extremely undersized and has absolutely no business fighting a junior welterweight let alone a super sized junior welterweight make no mistake about it.
This is not the first time Team Cotto has gone after much smaller fish make no mistake about it.
Maussa was TKO'd on cuts was he not? He wasn't put down like what Hatton did. Cotto is a good boxer. Note good, he is not great and I don't think he ever will be. He's very sheltered and even HBO knows this. HBO milks fighters and they know if he fights a good opponent he'll be likely defeated handily, thus lowering his market appeal.
Im a Cotto fan, but he really needs to step up who he is challenging and he really needs to stop being protected. That's just the truth. The guy clearly has flaws, but his heart and power make up for it. Why he is not challenging a top fighter makes no sense to me.
Cottos a gold medalist, cause he was robbed in the Olympics like Roy Jones.
He beat a gold medalist, who "beat" hm.
He defended his belt five times, against top condenters in one year.
Carlos Maussa was KO'd in the 8th by Cotto, and 9th by Hatton. He holded a belt, so that means Cotto is good enough to have held two belts.
Cottos 25, birthday in Oct, been boxing fir 5 years.
Its offical, fights in Boxrec http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=033535
Oh boy, they fought and Diego was owned. No chin, no defense is a bad combination against top notch fighters. Diego will always never been the clear favorite because of this.
hahaha your so pathetic, everytime i say something bout mayweather you go back to that 1 fight & think it means something to me!
chico would beat the shit outta gayweather if they faught again!
I was going to say that they should just let Cotto fight Gatti so all of this Cotto hype could be put to rest once and for all, but if he fights Castillo, that will work too. It won't be the brutal KO he would get from Gatti, but it will be a KO nonetheless. Cotto couldn't hit Mayweather if he had pneumonia and was on his deathbed lol
yer fight bums your whole career like gayweather

Chico would get stomped by Mayweather...again 10 times out of 10. The fact of the matter is you DO look back at those fights he had why? He had them, you said "Gayweather" fought bums his whole career, your proven wrong. Cotto HAS fought nobody his whole career. No one who 5 years from now you will remember besides Maussa, and he isn't any good just a good comedic laugh. Cotto is proving himself day by day to be more and more failed hype. Hatton is busy who do you want him to fight? I thought 140 was THE more diverse, action packed, talent filled division. Oh wait that was when Mayweather was there now 140 just means Hatton and whoever he wants to eat for lunch. Sorry Chico but your the most biased poster on the sight, not to mention why do you use two user names to post....on the same thread.... (not this one different one).
Raul fucking Balbi wtf this dude is a lightweight.I'm really pissed at Cotto for even thinking of taking this fight.
Finally after browsing thru this thread someone actually addressed Raul Balbi...he is grossly undersized to Cotto.
If Cotto's next fight is Castillo and the Balbi fight is a tuneup then thats fine but let me tell ya...this smells like a promoter protecting a fighter that doesnt take a shot to well.
Balbi is a punching bag who couldnt beat 4 foot 2 Leo Dorin.
ok, let me explain something to you
chico's most valuable asset is power. thats the only edge he has over floyd. i chico tries to box floyd, he would get embrassed. at 135, chico is one of the strongest punchers you can find. however, if he moves up in weight, you will see a decline in his power. for example, jeff lacy is one super powerful super middleweight, but if he moveed up to light heavy, he wouldnt had the knockout precentage he has right now.
that being said, floyd is a hell of a lot better now than he has been in his whole career. i would say chico has gotten worse, with his recent losses to casa and castillo. dont get me wrong, chico is a warrior and i stick up for him every chance i get, but there are few and far between who will agree with you taht deigo would get the best of floyd in a rematch at 140 or 147
I'm not so sure how well the extra weight would affect Corrales. He's very tall, but he's wirey as hell. He has small shoulders. I think the weight would only make him slower, and Mayweather would be able to pick him to pieces. I really don't think Corrales beats Mayweather at any weight.
cotto has not fought the creme of the creme but he has fought solid opposition i would not consider guys like n'dou, abdulaev, sosa, corley, and torres bums also cotto is still young and he is a very active fighter you can't expect for him to fight castillo, hatton, pbf every 3-4 months .....like other posters have stated i rather see him in there against anybody than waiting around for 6-7 months for a pontential ppv fight ....cotto will have a mega fight in 06' against somebody...
so i just checked this balbi guy, and he has ONE fight in the us, mostly all of them, with the exception of five have been in argentina and he still managed to rack up seven losses.
this guys biggest accomplishment is that he lost two close fights to leonard dorian, the guy who gatti ko'd in two.
I like how you say that your not biased, you just deal with facts. Yet you needed to "look up this guy Balbi" and all you can say is how he lost two fights to a fighter that Gatti ko'ed. Well if you were at all as knowledgeable as you claim to be, then you would have known that although Balbi did lose two fights to Dorin, they were two of the best fights of the year and were also two all out wars. And btw when Gatti beat Dorin he was coming off a pretty lengthy layoff and moving up in weight.
I am not even going to get into the debate about who's got the better resume' between Cotto and PBF, cause for one I'd be wasting my time trying to debate with someone as obviously biased as you, and secondly this debate has already been done on these boards long before you joined up so sorry!
id say genaro's biggest win was a dominating ud over carlos alberto hernandez in his prime, but he had fought a ton of solid fighters
Ok if you wanna count fighters that were "solid" or better I can name John Brown, Jukko, Bazan, Perez, Corley, Abdulaev, Torres, Rocky Martinez, Ceballos, Sosa, Maussa, N'dou, Pinto, and Bailey. These guys are all "solid" or better. Mayweather's got Manfredy, Pep, Jukko, Gregorio Vargas, Carlos Gerena, Augustus, Carlos Rios, and Corrales. Looks like Cottos got more.
