HBO reiterated this line in their "Year in Review" segment after the Winky fight. It seems like Gatti is just another way of saying "limited fighter". I suppose barely getting out of a fight alive against a mediocre opponent makes you sort of Gatti-ish, but it's not like this is a compliment.
So Cotto is suddenly an exciting fighter because he got exposed for his limited movement and defence? Sounds like HBO is desperate to put a good spin on one of their marquee names.
yea man damgarrd is undefeated to hehe this should be go i kno its going to be a slugfest cause none of them wanna lose and i kno gatti sure doesnt i would laugh if that fight become one of the best there ever was..meaning being better than corrales and castillo lol that shit would be crazy but hey u neva kno
leave floyd and cotto out of this lol its about gatti and cotto hehe lol
cotto+gatti= cotto tko win in 6th round heheh
well he did bring it up, but whatever
cotto gatti should be good if it happens, but in order to see the outcome, i need to see gatti damgaard first
When 90% of your fan base starts calling you "Miguelito"...some changes will definitely start taking place.
miguelito will be a household name in a few years
Hey I just added up the winning records of PBF first 25bouts and Cotto's 25.
Cotto's opponent's- 512w- 131 L
Mayweather's opponents 450w-134L
I'm not saying that Cotto is better than Mayweather Im just saying that you shouldn't critique his record by saying he has not fought any "good fighters" in his 25 bouts. His competition has been MUCH better than PBF's first 25. PBF did not fight any significant opponents in his first 25 fights. Cotto has fought several significant opponents.
i forgot to mention floyd win against a tough, experienced tony pep, in which floyd won every round, but anyways...
cotto great competition is torres, corley, sosa and muassa i would suppose.
well, randall bailey is pretty damn good too, but wait, nah, he lost to ishe smith, nevermind
sosa and corley are, simply put, floyd leftovers (but corley still put cotto on queer street)
muassa is an absolute clown who has gotten alot better since then and we have ricardo torres, a guy who has a sheltered record who knocked down cotto and rocked him a few times as well. IMO, floyd faced better opposition, and absolutly dominated his opponents in his first 25 fights, consideribly more so than cotto
Look at PBF first 25 fights, Cotto's opponents are better and have better records. Cotto has fought several "Good" fighters. Sosa, Abdulaev, Bailey, N'dou, Pinto, Bazan, Ceballos.
hmm, in floyd first 25 fights, he fought manfredy(in his prime), augustus and corrales, each one better than any competition cotto has faced
he also beat a very good, two time champ in Genaro Hernandez and every one of his super feather defenses was against good competition
just because YOU dont know their names, doesnt mean there not good competition
i suppose i should also mention that he DOMINATED this above average competition, losing about three rounds in eight fights
lol.
HBO calls Cotto gatti because they dont know what the fuck theyre talking about.
larry just needs to put down the hennessy, that's why he was saying, " cotto, cotto, he's the next gatti, i looove cotto " because he was drunk
i think its a compliment to be considered anything like gatti!
gatti has one of the biggest hearts if not the biggest heart in boxing, sure he's not the best but he's damn exciting to watch!
he is 25 fights into his career and still has yet to fight one GOOD fighter

desperate times call for desperate measures. if they need to call cotto the next gatti to sell ticktets and PPVs, then they're gonna go for it.
i cant say i entirely agree with them calling cotto a puerto rican gatti, seeing as how gatti can take a better punch, gatti has been thru more wars and exciting fights, and gatti is just all around more exciting.

I would say that he is young and it is still early to tell whether or not he will be "that good". I do think that the spotlight was put on him very early. We see his flaws because he is in the learning stage of his career. I am not sure if he will be a "great Puerto Rican boxer" but I know from what he has shown he has the potential, he has plenty of potential.

That's where it should be kept at... "potential", not talking about the next Puerto Rican great like so many have done.
