some boxing website held a voting on who is the best heavyweight around now james toney was voted as number 1 and wladimir klitschko was number 2, read up on it bellow 2http://www.boxingtalk.com/pages/free6105.htm
who do u think is the best heavyweight right now, I think Wladimir Klitschko and Lamon Brewster are the top guys right now...
Point being?
There's NO ONE that anyone can agree on as #1, and it's been that way for years.
That's why this looming title unification tournament is the best thing for the division.
Everyone, regardless of what order they have them, can agree that the top 6 Heavyweights are the 4 who hold the titles, Toney and Wlad.
Squabbeling about the order is an excersize in futility.
They need to fight eachother, one guy unifies, and the liniage is restored.
this thread was created for people to say who they think is the best and also to say if toney deserves to be #1, we would like to hear your opinion what do u think who is the best or number 1 right now...
I noticed on a bunch of posts it says, wlad would be favored because hes bigger, so just on that alone, he ranks higher then toney. If Toney goes into a fight unfavored hes not the best heavyweight. Toney has done nothing at heavy except test positive for banned substances resulting in his only crediable win with a NC. Other than that hes beat no one of importance and I will not give him credit based on what hes done at different weights mainly because of the difference. This isn't a 6 lb jump were talking about here. Most people look back to fights he had at middle and say because of skills he showed there he carried them with him to the world stage of the HWT division. The way I see it in boxing your guilty until proven innocent. Talk all you want about him but until he shows he can perform agaisnt the top guys Im not jumping on the bandwagon.
i agree 100%, and I also think if toney gets in the ring with a good puncher it will be over him...
And if 90% of World class middleweights were 9 inches taller than Wlad and outweighed him significantly, I'd take a strong majority of them to knock him out.
Wlad would be favored over Toney, because he's naturally twice the size of Toney.
You act as though it makes for a good point to suggest that if Wlad were a bit shorter, it wouldn't matter.
Make them the same size, and Toney is a shoe in to beat Wlad every time.
The only reason Wlad would be favored would be because of the tremendous advantate in Height, size, and reach.
It's a natural miss match were it not for Toney being so skilled and able to get away with fighting at Heavy.
and power wlad has more power also...
well blood, being that he's such a "hype", i'll bet you all of my points that he beats toney if they ever fight. remember to quote this.
ye blood me too, i will do it no doubt...
I'm equally as sick of people using that as an excuse to make them selves feel better about Wlad hitting the deck another 3 times.
One of the three knock downs was from a straight right hand.
The two everyone always cries about were the result of accumulation of punches after Wlad was hurt earlier in the frame, and after several seconds of stumbling around on no legs.
After getting stunned, he was stumbling all around, and grabbing on to Peter.
In doing so, he was constantly turning his head away from punches. In doing so, he was directrly at fault for exposing the back of his head to punches thrown at his head.
This, in combonation with the fact he was stumbling around on no legs, are why the knock downs counted, and rightfully so.
Wlad did escape with a win in that fight, winning it narrowly on the cards despite winning the majority of the rounds.
it wasnt as narrow as u think it was, all 3 judges gave it to him by 3 points i belive i dont think thats narrow...

brewster, wlad and toney are a step above
rahman, byrd and ruiz.
they also want to fight more
thats my squabble
I like Toney, and recognize him as number 4 or 5 just because the divsion is weak but....I don't see him as number 1.

A poor take.
Toney was the recognized Cruiserweight champion. It's common place for a fighter from a division lower to jump up one division and secure an immediate top ten ranking, and in some cases even an immediate title shot.
Toney's opposition since moving to Heavyweight is no worse than any of the current title holders other than Brewster.
Wlad does not have a title, and has been down 9 times in his last 8 fights, stopped in two of them.
You may not like Toney, but he's a recognized top 5 Heavyweight. End of story.

what was your point? that world class middleweights have more skill? strap a 50 to 70 pound weight vest on 'em and see if they can still maintain a lot of those quicker moves.
Nope, my point was that the majority of World Class fighters would crack his glass chin if the playing field with the height and size was even.
:D
konstantin, that's basically my point in a round about way. different sized people, different weighted people, different dominant handed people have to adjust differently. no middleweights would be fighting the same way as they did if they were heavyweights.
And if 90% of World class middleweights were 9 inches taller than Wlad and outweighed him significantly, I'd take a strong majority of them to knock him out.
Wlad would be favored over Toney, because he's naturally twice the size of Toney.

Thats not good logic...
If Wlad were Toneys size he would obviously be a totally different fighter... he would probably be quite mobile and his tactics would have to totally change...
yeah bozo that's a real good arguement. the problem is that middleweights are not heavyweights, but this has nothing to do with height or other factors.

i'd say, if wladimir was 3 inches shorter(6'6"/6'7" to 6'4"), that he would still beat toney.
toney is extremely skiled, especially at rolling punches, good timing in inside fighting, and being relaxed in the ring, but from all the fights i've seen of wlad's, of which i've seen every fight exception of 1 or 2, he is a smart and an extremely sound technical boxer. he's fought many top ten class opponents and has something like 46 or 47 pro fights under his belt. and only 29 years old. when he gets a bit more use to the rough-housing or tricky inside or clinch game, he would be a very tough opponent for anybody.

....Best post backing a potential Wlad/Toney fight with logic and sound reasoning I have seen in a long long time.
Except that he just drew a comparison between Toney and Tarver.
He's much bigger than Toney. Toney has no chance because of the size differential.
Also, whats up J? This is ImSoFlyyy aka Rodgers=bust aka Mnash.

Wlad fans are truly pathethic. They really want to fight a smaller Toney just so they can get a belt on him.
This dude is a modern day hype.
