Who would like to keep this guy from ever talking on telivision? Lampley has to be frustrated when Merchant starts rambling about whatever it is he is rambling about. He talks so slow I lose the point of what he is saying. Well those are my thoughts. Agree or disagree let me know.
My teacher is from Amarillo.
And yes, I dont want Merchant back. But lets get rid of Lampley before Merchant is taken out.

Most polls have the win going to taylor.....so I dont know who needs to get thier eyes checked....some people look for different things in juding a fight, most people rate agressiveness wayyyyy above the other 3 ...
i wanna see the results of the polls your looken at cause all the ones i've seen were a landslide for Hopkins
I dont like Merchant.
Roy Jones and Al Berndstein are the only announcers I like now.
Roy Jones
Al Berndstein
Teddy Atlas
Should be the lineup. Teddy just because someone has to be in the third HBO spot I guess.

Disagree, I would rather see Roy jones off the HBO airwaves way before they ever consider taking Merchant off.
Say what you want about the mans approach or delivery, he knows boxing and I for 1 like listening to what comes out of that mouth of his.
This definitely separates smart boxing fans from fucking idiots. Roy has never been wrong on an HBO telecast as a commentator. Do you realize that? Everything he has ever said has come true. He said Winky would dominate Trinidad and we didn't believe. He said Trinidad would KO Mayorga with a body shot (said it in the first fucking round)! I remember him saying a straight right from Hopkins would flatten Allen, and lo and behold one round later it did. Roy is a fucking genius. Best commentator ever.

No, Larry Merchant is a great boxing mind...
i've said it before on this forum, HBO need to get rid of their boxing team, including jones who just mumbles. lampley has to be reminded at the start what sport he's commentating on, and then just reads compubox figures all night. by the time merchant has got a point across the fitters are taking the ring down, and lederman could'nt judge a fight with a gun to his head.
in the week which has seen the death of george best, someone should take merchants glass away, he's pickled.
Taylor was agressive, but He wasn't landing anything.
I can't stress enough Taylor only landed 19% of his shots, most of which were jabs. Bernard clearly landed the more powerful and telling blows.
I must agree here. Me and my father have fought about all this same stuff since the fight. (My father is a Taylor fan). I quote the punchstats to him all the time, but he's right when he says that Hopkins gave up too many early rounds doing nothing. Taylor didn't do much either, but Hopkins did nada, rien, not shit. We can't score fights by total punches landed when one guy outlanded the other for 7 of 12 rounds.
Yes average boxing fans :) Although I forget where...but there was someone discribing juding to pro rookie, and said yadayadayada with emphasis on effective agressivness. I agree it was close but I had Taylor winning 7 rounds to 5...people see it differently I guess, btw why are we arguing on B-Hop Taylor I on a Larry Merchant thread? : /

Most people as in average boxing fans?
Most of the credible sources believed Hopkins won the fight. Sure he was on his tail for half of the fight, but He clearly had more ring generalship, and every punch he threw had purpose.
For christs sake, Taylor only landed 19% of his punches.

Oh yeah as for Larry I like him at times, and at times hate him, it's all whats coming out of his mouth i guess. Lampley, Roy, and Merchant do a pretty good job together I think. Atleast they say more than, xxx threw a punch, its round 8......xxxxx was knocked down /shrug
HBO's bias is really sickening. It's quite clear they have there own agenda.
I want big george back because He knew what He was talking about, and although he was absent-minded at times, He knew the sport inside and out.
A classic example of Merchant's bias:
He scored Hopkins - Taylor 116 - 112. He was one of THREE out of 20 or so that thought Taylor won the fight. He needs to get his eyes checked, along with anyone who scored the fight for Taylor.

You want to talk bias? go back and watch the Hopkins Taylor fight. at almost every exchange where both landed equal punches, Lampley says, "And taylor gets off a nice jab," or when Hopkins gets the better of the exchange, Lampley would not say anything and do a call back like, "You know it's intersting when you look at the mentality of both fighters coming into the fight" or some bullshit like that, completely disregarding some nice Hopkins punches. It's probably why a lot of people had Taylor winning the first fight (casual fans).
It was like that with Toney - Ruiz also. Ruiz was peppering Toney with jabs in the first 3 rounds, but HBO never mentioned this once. Toney won that fight, but not in the dominating fashion that they made it out to be.
As much as I like Lampley's voice, he doesn't know his boxing. He seems like a muppet to me. And that clown Lederman, He is a joker. The only round's he ever gets right are the clear-cut ones.

I'll tell you who should be petitioned is Jim Gray (I think that is how he spells his last name). He's a fool. He tries to ask the tough questions, which is something that Merchant is able to do tactfully without disrespect, but Gray almost always offends. I've watched him offend boxers for years, but never heard anyone complain until he harrassed Pete Rose a few years back. One of the most memorable moments of his bad tact was when he got the interpreter shoved by Julio Cesar Chavez when he asked, "Why did you quit?" after the De La Hoya fight.
Merchant is miles above this bum and many others, still to this day.

First off, there is a middle ground between loving and hating someone. Second, the one thing I do like about Larry is he asks the tough questions to fighters afterward, and tries not to let them off the hook if they dodge it. However, most fighters end up dodging questions anyway, which is his only strong point. Also, I don't like how he disrespects fighters either. It's one thing to cut off a fighter who drones on and on about who he thanks, its another to cut them off right after they say, "I'd like to thank..." after being in a battle in the ring.
And yes, I agree with what bozo had to say.... their bias is sickening.
