When listening to posters on this site, sometimes I wonder what fighter isn't overated? If how I thought about boxing was soley based on what others, particulary on here said, I would think everyone sucks. If you listen to the online boxing community Roy Jones isn't great, Mike Tyson isn't great, Felix Trinidad isn't great, Bernard Hopkins isn't great and the list goes on. Why arn't these guys great? The usual answer is THEY NEVER FAUGHT NOBODY!!! Sometimes I think to myself...well who have you faught? :D I mean I am not fighter but I am not the one saying that everybody didn't fight nobody. Shouldn't we give these fighters respect for being fighters? Reguardless of who they faught, to win titles on a professional level can't be easy. You know what? I don't think boxing is easy, even for great fighters. It requires alot on intangibles that most human beings don't have. All I am saying is, maybe we as boxing fans shouldn't critize championship caliber fighters careers so much. They were champions and are champions in a sport where the other guy is trying to knock their head off for 12 rounds.
Barrera
Trinidad
DeLaHoya
Hopkins
Morales
Pacquiao
Tyson
Jones(sort of)
have all proven themselves as ALL TIME GREATS in my books..

You have no idea how pumped I'am too see this fight. I don't care what some of these idiots say like its not gonna be a competitive fight or whatever, who gives a crap, at least I'll be able to tell my kids I saw the greatest fighter of our generation fight live. PLus if your a fight fan and you had a chance to go see Pretty Boy fight, you damn well better go.
Mayweather is the best fighter on the planet and anybody who doesn't realize that is a fool.
damn straight
on another thread, someone said cotto was on floyd level
have fun at the fight
Yeah thats me and my girl, I'm real lucky, cause she is way outta my league and she is the coolest chick I ever met, so I'm hanging on to her like Boncrusher held on to Tyson. :D
And I'll start a thread about what my night at the fights was like when I get back, hopefully I'll have some pics too.
Good for you, your girlfriend is beautiful no doubt. Yeah, you should make a thread in the lounge or in here after the fight. It must be cool knowing you are going to see the best fighter on the planet fight live.
No problem bro, I'm just tellin the truth.
Hey by the way I'm goin to the Mayweather fight, its gonna be awesome.
Good for you. Let me and everyone else know how it goes. Is that you and your girl in you signature?
Not only that but you would have to be a moron to think that anyone back then coulda beat him. Bonecrusher Smith, Tony Tucker, Michael Spinks, please. When Mike won the title he became the man to beat and his unification would prove that.Plus when are we gonna see another 20 year old win a HW championship...how about never. What he did was amazing and he was a truly great fighter back then too, he could do it all.
Ring magazine was stupid for having Spinks as the champion... bible of boxing, yeah right.
THANK YOU!!!!!!Lol :D
You mean the 1990s or from 95 to 05 ?
in terms of "greatness"?
In the 1990s i think Holyfield, Benn, Eubank, RJJ. cant really think of any other "great" fighters.
95 to 05 i think Holyfield, Lennox, Naz, RJJ. thats it really, no more than that who were "great".
in terms of "ability" though i think Whitaker and Chavez are the best of the last 15 yrs overall, RJJ is right up there, DLH & Tito are up there, and u have to say B-Hop deserves a mention for actually beating Tito and DLH & only losing to RJJ in 15+ yrs. i think the best of the 00's will end up being PBF who will never lose!
id say benn is on th fence, but neither naz and eubank are close to being considered great
No your wrong, as usual, your the same idiot that said Tyson was a bad inside fighter.
Tyson is the youngest man ever to win the HW championship, end of story.
no, mike is the youngest man to ever win A HW championship
your the same idiot that said Tyson was a bad inside fighter.
That's not as idiotic as it sounds. Tyson was great at actually getting on the inside, but he wasn't really much of an infighter.. if you clinched him he didn't know what to do! Tyson relied on landing punches from the outside range, or ducking/slipping a shot(s) with his elusive upper body and counter-punching rather than getting inside and leading or infighting. Tyson often got inside only to throw a few punches or get clinched and then straight back out again.
No your wrong, as usual, your the same idiot that said Tyson was a bad inside fighter.
Tyson is the yongest man ever to win the HW championship, end of story.
THANK YOU! Mike deserves that! Damn lets cut him a break... :D
Eubank revelled in his role as the game's great showman, but you can't put him down as a great fighter. He was a total prat really.
Nigel Benn though is a dead cert for the IBHOF.
Since 1990 (and I know you aren't asking me) I'd say that these are all-time great fighters:
Pernell Whitaker
Ricardo Lopez
Oscar De La Hoya
Julio Cesar Chavez
Erik Morales
Evander Holyfield
James Toney
Kostya Tszyu
Johnny Tapia
Marco Antonio Barrera
Bernard Hopkins
Roy Jones Junior
Felix Trinidad
Azumah Nelson
Mike McCallum
Lennox Lewis
...that's about everyone I can think of off the top of my head. Guys like Tyson, Hamed, Too Sharp, etc... dont quite get there.
EDIT: I'm on the fence about Eubank...I guess I might put him in there too, but I'm unsure.
Gringo, you are on eof the better posters on this site and you are on the fence about Hamed?
HAMED?
If you are on the fence with Hamed Tyson should be a lock for your greatness list.
Why is Hamed even being considered?

Nigel Benn though is obviously a dead cert for the IBHOF.
Name 10 fighters, if you can, from the last decade that deserve the "greatness" moniker.
I'm interested to see who you put given your criteria.
Here's a short list from me:
Holyfield
Jones
Toney
Hopkins
Whitaker
Lewis
