Barrera is fighting for the IBF lightweight title next in march.
I don't know where this Barrios fight came about but this Chavez fight is signed and is a go!
this is what i dont understand, some people were sayin that barrera was fighting bums and he needed to step up his competition, so when he does this against chavez, some people are now sayin that chavez aint all that, no one was sayin chavez wasnt all that when morales faced him, so why now all of a sudden when barreras goin for a 4th weight class title some people are already tryin to say chavez aint a good fighter?? chavez has improved alot in his recent fights and he will bring a very good fight against barrera and could possibly win.
Awesome!
Finally Barrera's getting the BIG fights again!
I wish the fight happened a bit earlier around January or February...so he could fight Pac sooner..
Finally, I been waiting for Barrera to fight a well known fighter...JESUS CHAVEZ! Tough, game opponent.
Viva Barrera!
Here it is...
FLASH
Oscar inks Mayorga pact!
Oscar De La Hoya has reportedly signed a tentative pact to to challenge Ricardo Mayorga for the WBC 154-pound title on May 6. It is not known whether the bout will be a co-promotion between Don King Productions and De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, or DKP and Top Rank, which holds a right of first refusal for Oscar's next bout, according to the LA Times. The paper also reported that former champions Shane Mosley and Fernando Vargas will collide on February 25 and IBF lightweight champion Jesus Chavez will face off WBC super featherweight king Marco Antonio Barrera on March 25.

you guys need to stop going by the speculative boxrec...wait until sites like Boxingscene, Fightnews, or Max Boxing post official word
Exactly. Boxrec jumps on every rumor and word on the street. There was an article on ringtalk that even some of the fighters' records in boxrec were not accurate.

where is xx,usa???
Prolly through 2 1/2 times as many punches too.
true, but the fight was still a competitive one, but it didnt show it in the end result, like the white sox series or floyds augustus fight
floyd was winning clearly on the cards, but floyd himself called it the toughest fight of his career. it was a very competitive fight, but the cards didnt show it
i know what your trying to say though
Thats why Corrales', Chavez and Gatti's corner gave up and threw in the towel.
Hah, I'd say the towel was thrown for Gatti and Corrales because they were getting murdered viciously and didn't want to see them to get even further fucked up.
Chavez didnt land and his corner called the fight OFF because their fighter didnt want to be embarassed any more on TV.
He landed almost exactly the same number of shots as did Floyd.
And the fight was stopped because of the damage Mayweather's more accurate punches had done to Chavez, not because they were embarassed. That's silly.
But again, to say it was a blow out and not competitve is outright wrong.
Im a big Mayweather fan too but a guy has to do more than throw a lot of punches. He has to land. Chavez didnt land and his corner called the fight OFF because their fighter didnt want to be embarassed any more on TV. Thats why Corrales', Chavez and Gatti's corner gave up and threw in the towel.
who is in your sig?
Prolly through 2 1/2 times as many punches too.
Chavez landed just 10 total shots less than Floyd.
You said it was a blow out, not competitive, and like the Gatti fight.
That couldn't be a poorer take on that fight.
I just watched this fight again yesterday, and made a thread about it.
It was a clear win for Floyd, but Chavez made it a tough one. It was compeitive the whole way through.

The CWS/Stros game is a good example.
Every game was decided by 1 or 2 runs...coming down to the 9th inning every time. The Sox still swept the series though.
Flyyy I don't think me, bozo, PBF(who is a big Mayweather guy I believe), kimmy, etc are all incorrect here.
Would you call a basketball game thats spread is 40 points competitive if the losing team made every three pointer they took? No, they're still losing by 40 points.
that is perhaps the worst analogy ever
heres one.
is a basketball series competitive if one team sweeps the other even if they won each game by three points
Flyyy you're way off base here man. A fight can be competitive without being close.
The Augustus/Mayweather was compeitive too, but it wasn't close on the cards or anything.
Many fights have been competitive and in the end one fighter wins by a landslide on points. Thats how many fighters who lose allot still get big fights regardless because they put up a great effort. Look at Gatti, he lost to Robinson twice on the trot and still got big fights.
The judges and I both had Toney beating Jirov by a comfortable margin too. Would you say that Toney DOMINATED that fight or would you say that Jirov WAS NOT competitive?
Excellent example, I was thinking of that fight just before I read your post.
Toney dominated the scoring, but the actual fight was very competitive and hard fought.
No... anybody can throw 100 punches in a round man. Chavez wasn't accurate at all and was getting tagged. Just because he threw 100 punches a round doesnt A) make him top notch B) make him good C) make it competitive. You have to do "effective aggression" like Castillo. Put in the Castillo-Mayweather I fight.

Stands to reason if Chavez can give mayweather a decent fight by his standards he should be able to give barrera a problem too. Although, it usually deosn`t turn out this way, i see Barrera winning a competitive UD!
