Ricardo Torres who fought Cotto.
I thought he fights like Trinidad with less head movement.
However, his handspeed and angles were pretty impressive.
He still needs to develop some skills, especially on the defensive side.
I hope he deals with the loss well and come back stronger and better. If he develops into a more complete fighter, I think he can be a force in the division. Thinking too far ahead???
Let's hear your guys' opinions.
sounds like you guys also think the guy has a future.
I dont want to jump to conclusion just yet but from the way he looked on Saturday, give this guy some time to develop a plan and get more condition and I think he might be.
He looks like a natural fighter, is definitely a big puncher.
He should have not thrown EVERY punch like he did. He'd have benefitted from setting his shots up a little more, when Cotto was hurt. Some body shots would have been nice.....
I look forward to seeing him fight again.
Exactly. Cotto keeps his hands held high. Body shots from a puncher like Torres would have had him moving his guard down.

I agree with you he has huge power to KO people, but he has no game plan (at least not saturday) maybe because of the fact that he is taking almost every body out, I mean the guy has only seen three fights that go to the score cards (counting yesterdays).
Give Torres more time to prepare and he should be a huge part in the 140lbs devision, I really hope to see more of him now that he has been able to make it here to the US to start facing top fighters.

people are not even giving Cotto credit for the win!
Torres ran out of gas because of all of Cotto's hard body work...
Exactly.I was impressed at all the shots he took and didn't go down and also was impressed at the way he was throwing those deadly body shots.Next fight hopefully he'll box more.
that too.....also the sad passing of leavander johnson makes you think that perhaps fighters should be protected more.........it's their own fault if they are getting hit at will.....
i mean there should be points of punishment allowed......
yes i didn't mean it to that extent martin.......but once in the 5th he slumped against the ropes......and i think the ref should have given him a count and seen if he was cleared up....and by doing so he would not have done anything bad to cotto, but he would have been clearing him up, checking him out, and protecting him....
Either Cotto has a problem with his chin or Torres punches extremely hard!
Everytime Torres landed cleanly, Cotto's equalibrium was all over the place.
man i thought the ref was biased towards cotto....because there were stages in the 2nd and 5th rounds when he was taking clean shots to the head........and i was thinking the ref should do something or he could be brain damaged......
i think he is pretty good and that him and cotto should do it again. if he had more time to prepare and get a real fight plan together, i think that he could beat cotto. and even though cotto won, he leaves himself open to a lot of questions. can he handle a prepared world class competitor? can he take a world class punch? is he all what he is hyped up to be? i know he did take his punches, but think if torres had things in order and was more settled, do you think that cotto would've won....i don't. i give cotto props for winning and getting off the canvas and fighting. a lot guys would've give in when knocked around and cotto didn't, but he seems to be more exposed as a hyped fighter right now, rather than the real deal. cotto is good, but not great like he's made out to be by the media.
i really liked torres, i thought that he was another push over for cotto, he came to fight and had skills with power, just not enough experience to put away cotto. with more experience, torres, and the way he fought. he could be a top contender, maybe even world champ some day.
i bet that cotto and his peeps will never give torres a rematch, even if the public demands it. because the risk isnt worth it.

Torres ran out of gas because of all of Cotto's hard body work...
no, not really.........he only had 2-3 weeks prep and he never did many rounds either...
considering he 1. only ever fought losers, 2. never fought out of colombia, and 3. only had 2-3 weeks to prepare...........and he only lost because he ran out of gas!!!.........he gets a very big thumbs up from me.....
very very impressive...
