I want this fight so bad now, who else is Cotto gonna pad his record off of, this fight would make perfect sense, If Cotto win he would be taken seriously, If emanual win he will get his well earned Title... I think this fight will happen soon...
he aint ready for hatton or mayweather thats why i said Emanual, it would be a good fight but i see Emanual winning the fight... .. Cotto is not a top contender IMO, he beat them fighters and? they arent top contenders either, Torres lost cuz he was exahausted from beatin the crap outta cotto in the 2nd RD, once cotto faces someone that can punch and finish hes out...
I still think that Cotto beats Hatton. Hatton doesn't have one-punch power and relies on his accumulation. He also isn't as technically sound as Cotto. I think Cotto can KO him in 6 or 7 before Hatton's accumulation of punches have an adverse effect on him. Cotto came out too aggressive against Chop and Torres and paid for it both times. In more controlled fights (Pinto, Abdullaev) he was able to control the tempo and win those fight with greater ease.
BTW, Torres can punch. I don't think many other 140 pounders, except for maybe Tszyu, can punch harder than Torres.
Also, I think Augustus beats any 140-pounder right now, including Floyd. He took the PBF fight on short notice, while he was smoking weed, and was still the most competitive fight Floyd has ever had (including the JL Castillo fights, IMHO). A well-trained Augustus beats Floyd now, I think. He also makes easy work of Hatton's aggressive style and would UD Cotto.
cotto's power hasnt been proven to me.he still has a way to go boxingskills wise.but he sure keeps a straighthead when he gets hurt and also using dirty tactics when needed or not are admireable trait.
What questionable tactics? Did you see the fight? The ref sucked! Those weren't low blows, they were on the belt. This is the same ref that called two KDs in this fight that were in fact push downs (one for each fighter).
torres was an unknown who had fought unknowns and had 2-3 weeks for this fight.....he had never even fought out of colombia......and everyone on this site was saying why the hell is this guy no.1 contender...even cotto was saying that.....
Wrong, he was coming off a fight in PR against a very game Vazquez, a fighter known in PR for his aggressive style. This was being used to set up a fight with Cotto in PR where people would see how aggressive and hard Torres hit and would hype him up. My brother was at this fight and he had commented to me that he was a force but that his D wasn't great and Cotto's superior skills would give him a mid-round KO. Well, he was mostly right.
The guy, while being unknown, had power and speed. This was something Cotto never prepared for as Branco is as slow and underpowered as they get.
Augustus would have a field day with cotto. it's what he haas been waiting for his whole career. he would confuse cotto and has way more experience. i know cotto has a great amateur background...blah blah, but Augustus has fought former world champs, now current world champs, top contenders, top prospects, warriors, etc. you name it he's fought them, plus a lot of time he did it on short notice! if chop chop could stun cotto, Augustus i think could put him away. he knows how to go upstairs and down stairs, which that is where torres failed. had torres gone down stairs in round 2 after having cotto hurt, he would've won, but he was head hunting and i think that it cost him the fight. but that is now old news. Augustus though, has the experience to get the job done. the power of cotto means nothing when it comes to Augustus, we all know he can take a punch, to the head and the body. even getting knocked down by ward he got up to finish the fight in a competitive fashion. cotto doesnt stand a chance against Augustus, even style wise. Augustus has the ability to change his style into whatever needs to be done. his record is shit, but that says nothing about how he fights! i'll take Augustus over cotto, any day. cotto isnt what he's hyped to be.
while i'm a big fan of augustus, who is waaaay better than his record suggests, he is'nt a big enough puncher to stop cotto marching forward, plus augustus (damn burton was easier to type)! is a couple of weight divisions north of his best weight imo. cotto would be to big and powerful for him. he would give cotto nightmares for a few rounds, though.
I think you being a little hard on Cotto and who he is facing.
He just beat a guy who was 28-0 with 26 K.O.s and made short work of him.
Before that he faced a guy who beat him before he was a pro, and a decent fighter at that in Abdulaev.
Not to mention Kelson Pinto who beat him in the amateurs as well.
Demarcus Corley? Lovemore N'dou?
come on man. His opposition is not bad at all.
Who would you like him to face other than Augustus? I mean seriously. You think Warren is going to seal a deal for Hatton to fight him? Do you really think he is ready for Floyd?
sorry bro, that is wrong.....
torres was an unknown who had fought unknowns and had 2-3 weeks for this fight.....he had never even fought out of colombia......and everyone on this site was saying why the hell is this guy no.1 contender...even cotto was saying that.....
having said all that he still deserves credit....
but there is one fighter out there i'd like to see cotto fight and i know you are all going to laugh, but i'd like to see him fight vivian harris.......
i'm sure cotto would love to fight him too.............
i was impressed with cotto only against bailey.....but ever since he has been suspect and proven to me that he is only a fringe title holder and worthy of that....
even the abdullaev win to me was shite!!!...

this would be an awesome fight. I was very happy to see cotto gettin knocked last night. I dont care if he was tryin to hold on and he got ole'd....... matador style. He was tryin to hold on because of the punch. As for agustus, he is the type of guy that you love to hate. HE at first comes off to the untrained eye as someone who is making a mockery of the sport, all his dancing shit can get annoying. Yet no matter how you feel, you have to admit that its effective at times, not to mention that it gets you in a trance like state. Kinda like a car crash, no matter how bad you dont wanna look, you just have too.
If these to fought it good be a very entertaning match. I feel that if Agustus came straight out into that style that it would work against him. He should come out like any other normal fighter. He should go about five rounds then switch to his drunken master alter ego. It would not only confuse cotto, it would frustrate him. Cotto is a young fighter who is very suceptible to old school veteran trickery. IMO cotto displayed very little ability to avoid the shot being delivered to him. If agustus were to fight him and employ what some would consider dirty tactics (Punching during break, holding, hip shots, even some good ol dirty boxing) it would frustrate the younger and untested by a true veteran cotto. He will make mistakes like he did last night, only this time his opponant would get the job done.
I would love to see Augustus get a crack at either Cotto or Hatton but I think it is really unlikely since Augustus is dangerous but his record is lousy so it is a lose-lose situation for any of the current champs unless Augustus can climb into a mandatory spot...

Yeah,I mean i undesrtand why people say shit about cotto, but theyre still wrong.Cotto is just taking too many risks at this point,a late replacement with 28 KO's ?! That spells potential danger for anybody. The only undefeated fighters cotto should risk that much against are Mayweather and Hatton. His opposition has been pretty good to downright dangerous, but theyre just not big names.Props to cotto for taking those fights,he's earned his place the hard way,it dosent make sense to criticize his opp.
fyi, he did NOT make short work of torres... did u SEE the fight????
Yes I did. I also watched Cotto get knocked down.
I forgot the fight went all the way to the 7th round.
I thought it ended in 5. I was confused.

Trust me, Cotto's people don't want to see this fight.
Very high risk and low reward.
I think that pretty much sums it up.
Cotto needs a fight that is gonna really psh him up the ranks.
A fight with Gatti IMHO would be the same thing. Floyd raped gatti , but Cotto isn't that good.
Gatti would brain damage Cotto. He can punch, and he can sure as well can goddamn finish.

i agree, i would love to see cotto and emanuel square off. i love augustus, one of my favorite fighters easily so i don't trust myself to have an honest/non-biased opinion on what would happen. but i do want emanuel to get a chance such as this. but anyway you look at it i don't think this would be an easy fight for either fighter, but emanuel has an incredible resume and has fought all of the current greats at one point or another, and none of them will say anything to downplay emanuel's impeccable skills. even the pretty boy has stated that augustus was his toughest opponent. if cotto could beat augustus, then he might be able to gauge where he is in terms of fighting floyd.
I don't think that says anything about how he would fare against Floyd. Floyd went the distance against Sosa and Corley, while Cotto stopped both. However, I know that Cotto is not ready for Floyd.
