If I was in charge of selecting Peter's next opponent I would have him feel a guy that I feel he could comfortably beat, but still be a step up over everyone he has faced other than Wlad.
I would have him fight a top 15-20 guy like Shannon Briggs or Sinan Samil Sam next January.

If I was Peter's promoter(which I would love to be), I would put him in against someone like Danny Williams, Oleg Mashaev, Vasily Jirov, or Monte Barrett in mid-to-late December on ESPN to excite all current or prospective fans. What I wouldn't do, is put him in against someone like Briggs who has just won his last three fights and is more experienced than Peter. I would also hire Kevin Rooney to train him because he(peter), has the body type, the power, and attitude like Tyson did when he was back in his prime.
Speaking of which, I don't see a fight with Kevin Mcbride to be a problem either. I think a fight between these two would get semi-decent ratings since Peter is an up and coming fighter and Mcbride has the publicity from beating(hopefully retiring) Tyson.
Get a trainer who can teach Peter how to box...he looked ridiculous winging away at Wlad with no discipline...he needs someone to teach him how to deal with boxers
The same trainer who trains Peter also trains Calvin Brock...I think the guy knows how to train a guy to box.
I have a suspicion that after the couple of knockdowns (legit or not) Peter's stock is not low. Look at all the interest this fight garnered. Good style or not he is still a puncher and knockout artist and as such is still watchable to the avaerage fight fan. IF Wlad is a top flight contender then Peter is all the easier to market (footage of him flooring a champion) and so I think that he may be more attractive to the bigger name fighters as a money fight. I could see Ruiz thinking to emulate Wlad's tactics (also trying to take advantage of a less confident and experienced Peter) or even a Tua coming out of the woodwork for a bigger profile fight to end his career on. One things for sure, with all the unreliable talent in the division as long as he avoids Vitali, Byrd and Wlad (again) for a couple of fights and trains constructively then he will be up towards the top of the rankings. However smart training seems rare in this division.

well bro your second paragraph doesn't make sense with the first paragraph....you said someone that he could beat!!!....and he can't beat those two at this stage....
peter has to trim up big time, he has to lose 15-20 pounds which should improve his speed....and of course learn how to punch straight.....
but being 15-20 pounds lighter is the key as it will improve his speed, agility & movement, and punching variety.....and possibly stamina also.
a slimmer, faster, improved peter will be a much better package.....he was way too slow and lacked skills......so seeing he is so young, and whichever way you look at it, he still did do quite well.....he has a lot of potential.........
How early would you bring him back?
I think early to mid January.
That sounds about right. Then again.....Showtime might pit him against Ray Austin soon.
I just have a feeling that will happen. Dont ask me why.

These are the next 5 fights I think Peter should take in order to progress.
1. Ray Austin
2. Jameel Mcline
3. Shannon Briggs
4. Fabio Moli (tune up)
5. Title shot hopefully.

Only problem with that in my opinion......is it might backfire.
It could turn into a boring clinchfest and both fighters might need scubagear fitted with tanks and all.
very true but id still love to see it just in case.
Samuel Peter needs to stay active in the fight game. He should fight some of the other names in the division that will keep his name in the media. If he does that, and bides his time his will eventually get another shot. I am a big klitshko fan, but if these to fought again, and wlad doesnt fight using the same concept he will get floored. He needs to keep sam at a distance.
And for all the people out there that say wlads a pussy for fighting the way he did are just useless tools. He fought one of the tactically smarter heavyweight fights in years. The man new his strengths and his weaknesses. So like any smart fighter would do, he played to those strengths. He would be a complete fool for trying to slug it out.
Would you try to slug it out when you know that your chin is very questionable. I Think not!
He demonstrated that he is a very very smart fighter, who if blessed with his brothers chin for instance would have went extremely far in the fight game. But unfortunatly though he was blessed with the chin of the the game punchouts "Glass Jaw Joe"
and as for peter. I really dont understand what the hype about him is. He cant even throw a Jab for fucks sake. Not to mention his abilty or lack there of to take over and dictate a fight. At any time, if truly desired Sam could have put wlad in the corner and stopped the fight. But, he didnt. Not the mark of a true champion.
If peter is gonna go anywhere in boxing other then to the growing list of "WHO THE HELL IS THAT" heavyweights, he must learn to dictate a fight, until then he will just be someone that can knock you out, but only if you stand there and let him.
a real match id like to see is peter vs tua.
some big punchers in that one and it would be fun to see tua's chin get test and vice versa

Yeah. I honestly could not see Fres surviving past the 3rd round. He would be on his bike, but the minute Peter hit him with a reaching punch going back:
Forgettaboutit.
