Guys like Hearns get praised like crazy...
Corrales has shown that if you have a weak chin...well then suck it up, accept it, deal with it, and just try to win your fights...
Wlad has mentioned his chin in interviews, has accepted it, and last night as expected went down, but got up to win...
Cotto, gets hit a few, staggered a few, down on the canvas, gets up, staggered a few more, but keeps composure and does what he has to do to make sure he wins the fight...
It is like people hold it against the boxer as if they are a horrible human being or didn't train enough to have a questionable chin...
If you don't have power, it is how you use your other tools to outbox or outwork a fighter you cannot knock out...
If you don't have speed, it is how you use your jab and basic boxing tools to beat a fighter you cannot match in speed...
If you don't have a good chin, it is how you get off the canvas and regain composure when needed to win vs someone who can hit...
It is like a disabled man or woman doing things you would have never thought possible for themselves despite their "disadvantage". There was a girl in my old history class in college with no hands, just stubs. She was in that class taking more notes than some of the slackers in there sleeping and doodling. She found a way and trained herself to hold the pencil with her stubs and write.
You may not get the analogy, but she cannot grow hands back. Wlad, Corrales, nor Cotto can grow a stronger chin. She had to accept her disablity and find another way around it. Wlad, Cotto, and Corrales have accepted theirs and find ways to win the fights.
If I have this kind of power and speed...fuck a chin!
I'd rather have that kind of power/speed/offense
then a ROCK chin and no power.
However, Wlad does have many things going for him despite the poor chin. His height gives him the ability to out box most people. He has power and fairly decent speed. We saw he can beat Chris Byrd, and he could again because Byrd can`t hurt him. Ruiz, he has a decent right hand but he can`t apply the pressure it would take to stop Wlad so he would be a fairly safe opponent.
However, there are a few guys he would risk losing to.
Brewster, he has alreadydefeated him. Rahman's right hand would be a danger, especially since it seems the Rock has hit form.
I think a tall heavy ( 6,3 and above ) with decent hand speed and some power could be the biggest threat. If their not big they have to be fast and get in and hurt the guy.
Otherwise, its Wlad`s fight more or less!

I think Wladimir knew he already had the fight in the bag and didn't want to take any risks with a minute to go.
true, we saw in that fight what could have happened has peter landed one last shot

None of the fighters you mentioned are in the HW division. I think there's an added expectation of HW fighters because that division's at the top of the pyramid. It may not be right, but a lot of people look at the heavyweight champ as "the one"...the guy at the top of the boxing...the guy that can win any fight, in any division.
same here anorak,i won moey on wlad, but i was on my feet everytime peter threw something because wlad can go down from the breeze of the wind..outta topic i didnt like when wlad had peter stumbling in the 12th and didnt go for the kill,he took 2 steps back instead.....
ture excitement...I am just very impressed with fighters who go down, get up, regain composure, then come back to win...rather than just call them weak chins and unimpressive
People hate a glass chin on a fighter because that means they can lose at any time. Nobody wants to root for a fighter who they know can go down and stay down from 1 shot at anytime.
In no way, shape, or form am I saying I'm not one of those people...I'm quick to bash a fighter if he lacks something :D...I'm the greatest of all haters.
People always feel it's a crime when a fighter lacks something.
If a fighter lacks KO power, they're going to hold it against them, if they lack the ability to entertain the crowd - they'll hold it against them.
