Providing talks continue to see it happen in Italy.
The worst thing would be to see neither one of them able to stop the other, and watch them slowly and feebly punch each other in the head for 10-12 rounds.
Perhaps seeing a tragedy in a title fight on a televised PPV event will start people taking a longer look at making fights that have disaster written all over them in the 1st place.
Holyfield is over, Mesi is not
I'd hate to see Evander ever fight again. It's just sad at this point. He seemed practically non responsive during his last couple of fights.
Mesi on the other hand should fight in Italy if he can but not against Holyfield. Mesi knows he can still fight. His condition has healed and there is no measurable evidence of existing damage from that injury therefore the doctors working for the boxing commissions are considering odds of a repeat injury. It's more of a theory that he would have greater odds of being hurt again although it cannot be proven. It can only be presumed. It's a matter of opinion within the medical community. Not a guarantee fact.
There's always a chance a fighter could get seriously injured or killed in the ring and Mesi knows it as does every fighter with a brain cell between their ears. Perhaps Mesi doesn't observe any difference between his condition today and his condition before his injury. After all, many Doctors believe he's good to go and can fight again since he's healed up. We all know Mesi has received a ton of 2nd opinions but the Commission is taking a prudent stance and I don't blame them for doing so. After yesterday's passing of L. Johnson I don't think any fan can blame them either.
All this stuff has been said before, though.
I think Mesi still has a few years of boxing left and I hope he never gets injured again. I can sympathize with him for demanding to fight whether it's in the US or abroad. It's his livelihood after all. What else will he make a living from? Peace.
RIP L. Johnson.
Let them play, let them play, let them play, let them play, let them play, let them play....
If the shitty bears were able to play ball in the Astrodome then a couple of vegetables should be allowed to fight in Italy.
Let them play, let them play, let them play, let them play, let them play, let them play!
Like valero, Mesi's injury would not affect his ability to look like a quality fighter. It does however enhance hischance of being killed or seriously hurt in the ring and that is why no commission should permit Mesi to fight
If they want to go to bum fuck egypt to fight then let the hard headed fuckers fight.
Holy is all thru and is pretty damn fucked up there is no doubt about this.
but...
Mesi? Sure he cant get cleared but what does that mean? Edwin Valero cant get cleared either but is fucking people up left and right, shit dougie Fischer thinks he would beat Morales, Barerra and PAc and he cant even fight on US soil.
So maybe this Italy thing is a good way to get Joe back into the ring, it has worked for Valero.
I agree this fight has no business taking place in Italy, or anywhere else.
I think though we need to give some credit to American boxing commissions here for refusing to allow a potentially profitable fight to take place. I am not a doctor, but I can't imagine it is at all prudent to allow Mesi into the ring. And needless to say holyfield should not be allowed to fight. Clearly the commissions are moving in the direction of protecting fighters. Now can we pass a mandatory retirement age so that Thomas Hearns can retire already. Also, I think some earlier stoppages in one sided fights could avert some of the tragedies we have seen lately and this responsibility belongs to both cornermen and referees. Granted Mayweather is not a hard hitter, but I would have hated to see what would have happened to gatti had that gone another 2 or 3 rounds. But kudos to the commissions for trying to protect mesi and holyfield. Sadly there probably will never be global standards.
In my opinion. Mesi is going to kill Holyfield.
Literally.
Agreed. Brainbleeding or not, Mesi is a legit threat to Holyfields life at this point. This is not how we want to remember Holyfield.
Maybe they'll both suffer brain damage because they are just too stupid to care about their healths. This is a fucking joke and the country of Italy should say no fucking way to it.
Holy owes it-- not only to himself but to the sport that made him-- to quit.
Mesi, if he loves the sport, should quit too.
Enemies of boxing will have a field day if....:(
i see mesi's reason he doesnt have the millions yet and he wasnt been a legit world champion and he's still young. and for holyfield tottally different story he needs to retire he's gotten close to the amount of money tyson got.QUIT BEING GREEDY HOLYFIELD YOUR STARTING TO BE LIKE DON KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow now THAT is a bad idea. Holyfield is just sad to watch I mean how can he figure he has a shot at a title when he gets beaten up by uhh I forget the name of his last guy. At least with Mesi I feel for him cause he was an undeafeated prospect just starting to make appreances on HBO and some top 10 lists and suddenly he cant fight anymore. I feel for him but he still should not be allowed to fight.
Various doctors have come out and said Joe is fine to fight, but Nevada won't let it happen because once your brain bleeds, it's far easier for it to happen again.
So I'm not shocked that Joe wants to box again at all.
Holy on the other hand is a completely different story. He is so past it, I can't think of any top 40 fighter that he can actually beat legit.
Johnny Ruiz
Let them fight. They are obviously too fucking stupid to get the point. I saw an interview with Joe saying he knows he is fine and all this shit.
Well is he a fuckin doctor? nah, a moron is more suitable.
And the death of Leavander should be even more of a warning sign to them. They should be goddamn lucky especially holyfuck.
I hate to get all worked up and shit but man, a good fighter died, they still have their health and they are gonna try to risk that.
Go ahead let them fight, if they go through with it, maybe they will both end up either retarted or dead. I hope that they both end up getting so fucked up that their lives are ruined. I hope they become vegetables and still aware of what is going on to them so they can finally get it through their moron heads, being a warrior is one thing, being a jack off is another.
Both of these guys have no respect from me. again. ever.

They're talking about fighting in Italy because it's unlikely most US states will sanction either of them to fight again.
Neither fighter has a shot in the dark of fighting in the states again.
