Should Mesi vs Holyfield be stopped?

Holyfield is over, Mesi is not I'd hate to see Evander ever fight again. It's just sad at this point. He seemed practically non responsive during his last couple of fights. Mesi on the other hand should fight in Italy if he can but not against Holyfield. Mesi knows he can still fight. His condition has healed and there is no measurable evidence of existing damage from that injury therefore the doctors working for the boxing commissions are considering odds of a repeat injury. It's more of a theory that he would have greater odds of being hurt again although it cannot be proven. It can only be presumed. It's a matter of opinion within the medical community. Not a guarantee fact. There's always a chance a fighter could get seriously injured or killed in the ring and Mesi knows it as does every fighter with a brain cell between their ears. Perhaps Mesi doesn't observe any difference between his condition today and his condition before his injury. After all, many Doctors believe he's good to go and can fight again since he's healed up. We all know Mesi has received a ton of 2nd opinions but the Commission is taking a prudent stance and I don't blame them for doing so. After yesterday's passing of L. Johnson I don't think any fan can blame them either. All this stuff has been said before, though. I think Mesi still has a few years of boxing left and I hope he never gets injured again. I can sympathize with him for demanding to fight whether it's in the US or abroad. It's his livelihood after all. What else will he make a living from? Peace. RIP L. Johnson.

Like valero, Mesi's injury would not affect his ability to look like a quality fighter. It does however enhance hischance of being killed or seriously hurt in the ring and that is why no commission should permit Mesi to fight

Sure he cant get cleared but what does that mean? I agree this fight has no business taking place in Italy, or anywhere else. I think though we need to give some credit to American boxing commissions here for refusing to allow a potentially profitable fight to take place. I am not a doctor, but I can't imagine it is at all prudent to allow Mesi into the ring. And needless to say holyfield should not be allowed to fight. Clearly the commissions are moving in the direction of protecting fighters. Now can we pass a mandatory retirement age so that Thomas Hearns can retire already. Also, I think some earlier stoppages in one sided fights could avert some of the tragedies we have seen lately and this responsibility belongs to both cornermen and referees. Granted Mayweather is not a hard hitter, but I would have hated to see what would have happened to gatti had that gone another 2 or 3 rounds. But kudos to the commissions for trying to protect mesi and holyfield. Sadly there probably will never be global standards.

Various doctors have come out and said Joe is fine to fight, but Nevada won't let it happen because once your brain bleeds, it's far easier for it to happen again. So I'm not shocked that Joe wants to box again at all. Holy on the other hand is a completely different story. He is so past it, I can't think of any top 40 fighter that he can actually beat legit. They're talking about fighting in Italy because it's unlikely most US states will sanction either of them to fight again. Neither fighter has a shot in the dark of fighting in the states again.
