I know a lot of guys believe that Bernard Hopkins will "EXECUTE" and whoop Jermain Taylor this time around. But what if, just what if Jermain whips Hopkins and seals his place in the Middleweight History, could a Felix Tito Trinidad fight be possible between them?I mena there's definitely a lot of money in that fight.Your thoughts guys........
I am a huge fan of Hopkins but i agree, the sport of boxing needs young stars to come through and take boxing into the future!
They (HBO) have been grooming Taylor to be the next champ anyway. He will win the re-match unless hopkins can do something amazing. It is just the way politics work. I feel that Hopkins won also. YOu have to take the mans title not just last. (In the final rounds Taylor was ready to go to sleep) had this been the era of 15 rounders Taylor would have been counting sheep.

If Taylor wins I will be completley shocked...
i agree with the point that Hopkins will try to change some part of his strategy in this next fight. again, i like Taylor, and i will not say that he can't pull off a win here, but it will be anything but easy.
and the fact the the people that hate Bernard Hopkins come on here and say ignorant, one line comments like "I think Bitchnard will get KTFO this time." among others just gets under my skin cause their not talking about talent or skill, just how they personally feel about a fighter, probably about something that occured outside a boxing ring.
Very true, that and the fact that there are just a bunch of unknowledgable posters here. That doesn't mean everyone the truuly knowledgable people know who they are.
Anyone who thinks hopkins won the first fight is delusional. Now in this second fight I expect hopkins to come out real aggressive and try to finish him early.Yes I know that's not his style but I expect it.Now having said that I pick Taylor to win again just because he's younger stronger.

Pac Men is 100% right. The first fight sucked, and there is no reason to believe that anything will change in the second fight. No question Taylor won the fight but he looked lost, confused and a bit scarred in doing so. Maybe he will do beter this time around but I didnt see anything that would suggest he can. Hopkins only chance for a decision win will need a rule change to award points for not throwing any punches. As for the next fight being boring ,well what Hopkins fight isn't boring.
are you serious? "not throwing any punches".... i mean i don't think i should dignify that with lifting my fingers up on the keyboard to type a response to that ridiculous and ignorant statement. have you ever watched a fight before? do fireworks need to fly out of the guys gloves to impress you? learn the game of boxing for me, as to some of the others on here, please.. im begging you.

Taylor will beat Bitchkins again. He won the first fight & most people think he won the fight, the polls speaks for themselves. Yea the Tito fight will be great, also we can have many other great fights in the middleweight. I think Bitchnard will get KTFO this time. He might get a little brave this time, instead of running like a bunny for 9 rounds.
lol, what an opinion... wow, that "bitchnard" stuff is mature too.
if Jermain Taylor pulls off a win here in the rematch, i'll definately be surprised. i don't think he will. i think Hopkins will control the fight just like he did last time, just in a more dominant fashion, so that if it does go to a decision again, he doesn't have to worry about 'politics' cause it's a clear cut decision. Hopkins by Unan Decision.
plus i refuse to believe that a loss to a talented fighter like Bernard Hopkins will ruin Jermain Taylor's chances at shining in boxing for many years to come, and im tired of people on here saying over and over that Jermain should win just because he's young. Pretty stupid logic.
As for the rematch, how will things be different? I don't believe old man Hopkins can go 12 hard rounds, so he will again give away rounds and not be able to win a decision. We already know that even with a headbutt/concussion assist he can't KO Taylor. Plus, Hopkins is even older this time around and Taylor will be stronger and better conditioned for 12 rounds.
I think it's safe to say that Hopkins will be fighting rather dirty during the rematch. He'll go all cell block on Taylor, I fear. Hopkins may go for a dramatic early win but that's just wishful thinking on my part. I know it's unlikely from Hopkins. He may fight the same exact fight but get aggressive earlier for a mid round KO or a UD. I don't think Taylor will knock him out. I believe if there's a KO opportunity we may see it from Hopkins over Taylor but that's just me. I know I'm not in the majority on that one. As you say, it will be a great fight regardless. I'm psyched as hell to see it. Peace.
Great post
Now that time has passed & the initial controversy has faded....
Let the truth be known -
That first fight sucked.
Because there was so little going on, any little thing one did to the other was completely exaggerrated.
I saw the fight a week later.....& none of what I read, by the HEATED supporters of either, apppeared as described.
I read someone in here say the right hand Hopkins hit Taylor with in the ninth round "sounded like a gun going off!". It was a decent punch AT BEST, & unfortunately...the best shot of the whole fight.
I hope to God this next fight is better. I'm tired of tentativeness being mistaken for technique, startegy, & "boxing".
This is a really good post, I must admit. I laughed, agreed & disagreed.
Dead right on so little going on and exaggerated descriptions of the fight. I also hope the next fight is better although I disagree about tentativeness being mistaken for technique, etc. I'm assuming, I hope correctly that you were referring to Hopkins. I see where fans perceive it that way but Hopkins is or was winning consistantly doing it his way. Granted, he has a damn long feeling out process but it's more than just that. He manages to win this way time and time again. He's mastered his game, his style. He does have the longest title defense 'ever' in the history of the sport. It is boring, no question about it and unfortunately it doesn't gain him any fans. Anyway, boxing would be better served in the short term and long term if he stopped fighting soon, win or lose the second fight he should retire. He's great as far as I'm concerned. I'll be a fan regardless of the outcome. Peace.

yup!
Bernard realizes that a huge reason that he lost ta fight is that he din't work right away and he dint iniate ta action. Havin that in mind in ta rematch will be his doomsday.
I can see Bernard startin fasta than usual and gettin to Tayler on ta get go! But ta thing is, that will only get him KTFO! Tayler is physically stronga and from what I've seen has ta betta hands. Bernard's advantage ova Tayler is that HE PICKS HIS SHOTS betta than Jermain. That's bout it though!
Tayler will KO Bernard in ta rematch becuz it'll be mo of a FIGHT ratha than runnin around and bunny hoping like ta 1st match!

First off I believe Hopkins won the fight. B.H. is notoriously slow in the first few rounds and was hurting Taylor towards the end of the fight when he naturally picked up the pace and began to dominate only a little too late to solidify a win in the eyes of the judges. I don't believe Taylor did enough to dethrone the champ but he did perform and fought very well. I just don't believe he won. When I saw the fight I thought Taylor would one day be champ but he's not dominating this fight.
It's not reasonable to expect a 20 time champion to be dominated. Just score the fight on rounds won and Taylor won. The judges and most fans agree. Hopkins followed a late KO strategy (that worked well with Trinidad and ODLH) and he didn't KO Taylor. Simple really.
Taylor wins this time more convincingly than the 1st time, probably by decision but a KO is possible if Hopkins tries to match his early pace. NO matter, it is a great fight to anticipate. Bring it on!
The question in the rematch is simple...Who is going to improve more?
People who think Hopkins is going to start faster to me are dead wrong, Hopkins doesnt take risks period, he is a waiter and the first 5 rounds of the rematch will be extremely similiar to the first fight.
1) If this happens I have to believe that Taylor will have the lead thru the first half of the fight.
Now, can Taylor improve over the last six rounds, can he better his performance in the championship rounds? I dont honestly know how he cant improve. Hopkins will come on a bit no doubt but Taylor will be there to meet him this time as opposed to last.
2) All Taylor needs to do in the second half of the fight is come up with a draw and he retains the title.
We saw just a bit of JErmain Taylor's ability in the first fight and I believe we saw BErnard Hopkins, the exact same Hopkins we saw against Felix, the exact same Hopkins we saw against Oscar or Daniels etc. He is not going to start fast, but he will finish hard, if Taylor improves just a little Nard is going to be one upset dude once again when the decision is read.
Taylor needs to win this fight, I have wet dreams thinking about an undefeated Jermain Taylor vs. an undefeated Jeff Lacy...trust me it gets pretty sticky!
If Jermain Taylor wins it'll be for the good of boxing.
I thought we'd finally got rid of these old has-beens like Hopkins/RJJ but they keep poking their dirty little heads up.
:fingersx: Fingers crossed Taylor and Tarver do the business and this matter to bed!
I am a huge fan of Hopkins but i agree, the sport of boxing needs young stars to come through and take boxing into the future!
I think Hopkins wins and Tito would be irrelevent
First off I believe Hopkins won the fight. B.H. is notoriously slow in the first few rounds and was hurting Taylor towards the end of the fight when he naturally picked up the pace and began to dominate only a little too late to solidify a win in the eyes of the judges. I don't believe Taylor did enough to dethrone the champ but he did perform and fought very well. I just don't believe he won. When I saw the fight I thought Taylor would one day be champ but he's not dominating this fight. I'm a little old school when it comes to taking a champs belts. You'd better win convincingly. Knock-downs, knock out or complete domination; nothing less will do. I didn't see that in Taylor. I did see Hopkins use his tried and true style which he mastered long ago of starting slow, picking away and coming on stronger as the fight went on. Hopkins has obviously mastered this style and I was not surprised in the manner in which he fought Taylor.
Assuming that Taylor wins the rematch and Hopkins is out of the running for a while I do not believe Tito should come back for a shot at the belts. It could make an interesting match up after a couple of tune up fights. Tito would only take one or two bouts max before demanding a title shot. I hope he doesn't come out of retirement just because Hopkins theoretically loses a rematch. That would be cheesy and rather manipulative of a fighter and managers. Why retire in the first place? Can't take Hopkins so you split until Hopkins is gone? How many former champs will do this? Should they all just lay low until someone they can't beat leaves the scene. Would you have a lot of respect for them if they take a title this way? I don't see the honor in it but business is business and boxing is about maneuvering for fights. In fact, that's the only way to succeed when you're coming up but that's not how a top tier fighter should maneuver. Certainly not a former champ who's already retired twice. Besides, It shakes up the rankings a little too much for my taste. I don't think it's fair to other fighters. It seems like special treatment and would not be just in my opinion. How would you feel if you were an up and coming boxer and then a 3rd return from retirement takes place from Tito?
Cool post. Peace.
