It has been announced that Johnson is the hospital and having emergency surgery for bleeding on the brain from the beating in the Chavez bout earlier tonight.
That guy is a mod just to let you know, but I don't know why he said it in such a offensive way. You're like one of the most respectful posters on the site!
...I didn't see it but was it that bigpopapump dude? What exactly did he say?
I just got back from Las Vegas, obviously I went to the fight, I have to say that after talking to everyone involved with Johnson, including Lou DiBella, his promoter, the situation is grim to say the least. Last night I made the comment to Russ Young of Prizefight Boxing - that Johnsons' legs didn't look right after round 8, then after the fight, I watched Johnson stagger as he walked past us on the way to the dressing room. I again stated that he didn't look right, even though he waved to the applauding fans on the way by, he was walking like he was drunk.
I spoke with Max Kellerman for a while after the fight, and finally got to give him my condolense about his brother face to face, I also got to spend a few minutes with Emanuel Steward, and Larry Merchant, and Bruce and Michael Buffer. I only got to say hi to DeLaHoya, and likewise to Hopkins and Mosley.
All in all, it was a rather boring card, and there were more than a few boo's going out during the show.
I really hope Johnson pulls through, and my prayers go out to his entire family as well as Johnson himself. It was a sad night for the sport of boxing...

What's the first article under top stories? Yep you guessed it. And the article itself is bigger than any other boxing article in a long time. Hell, the picture is even bigger. Boxing never headlines any article, unless it's negative. It's not exactly front page material, but it's bigger than any other boxing news on general sports papers/sites
That just goes to say that the only news boxing makes is negative news.
Let's all hope the mans pulls through
One word... Holyfield. Nobody outside the boxing world knew who the fuck he was before his ear was eaten off. After that happened, he became a household name. If Tyson had never did him that favor, Holyfield wouldn't be doing cheesy Chili's commercials or appearing in reality show dance-offs! Now that's how the stars are really born. Believe that.
But not everything big in boxing spawns from negativity. There are a few exceptions. But of course, exceptions prove the rule.
Tyson for example. He didn't become the big phenomenon he is just because he was young and explosive, although that is part of it.
Tyson started gaining noteriety and fame at the same time when the video game market started blowing up. "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out" was the first boxing video game ever made, and extremely popular (even to this day). That's how Tyson started becoming a household name.
Then the whole rape thing came out, and he REALLY became a household name then.
But I do believe the video game entertainment business pushed Tyson to international stardom. Even the street fighter character Balrog was based on Tyson. Outside the US, the character Balrog was M. Bison, but the name had to be changed in the US to avoid any lawsuits or defamation of character since M. Bison is so similar to M. Tyson.
Wonder how this will effect Chavez Jr. He could potentially kill someone with his fists, it should have an effect on him as a person, and a fighter.
It wasn't Chavez Jnr. it was Jesus Chavez.
even though the signs are'nt good, i hope he pulls through. i don't think anyone can critisize the ref or margeret goodman. he was responsive to every question put to him during the fight according to goodman. hindsight is 20/20.
well said. I'm sure everyone who was involved with the fight must feel awful right now.

I didn't even see the fight and I knew it should be stoped based on what I read various places online during the fight.
Isn't Tony Weeks pretty polished too?
Being able to tell when you should stop a fight ... even brutal ones isn't easy ... you got the fighter claiming to be alright and his corner tryin to support him and his wishes. Tony is a great ref ... as I was sayin, knowing when to stop em is an art, not a science and an inexact one at that.
In boxing, these things are inevitable when you look at what it consists of ... these things have and always will happen.
Yup, they are talking about it on Sportscenter. No way they would have mentioned anything about the entire card without this.
Tony Weeks is a moron. Johnson ate a dozen or more punch and doing nothing. The corner should of stopped it but the last round was were the damage was done.
I heard he actually was dead and brough back by EMT's.

You're right. This will be the headline for some time to come. You know how some lawyers make a carreer out of one case; well i'm sure there will be at least one reporter or organization who will take this injury with Johnson and try and smear it in the face of boxing. We all love a great fight, a knock out but really, what the hell was the ref doing? And Johnsons corner? I believe firmly that the fight should have been stopped well before the 11th. I know the Dr. spoke to Johnson between rounds and Johnson seemed fine but that's all irrelevant now.

His condition is being described as very grave
People were yelling from the audience for the fight to be stopped. Seems he took well over 20 unanswered punches to the head in the 11th.
I hope he makes it. Unfortunately, it's looking rather bad as he's still in critical condition. He's getting a ton of prayers. I hope he pulls through.
``He's not in good shape,'' Lou DiBella said.
He fought like a warrior. Great heart.
As a boxer (I don't know if you are or not, but you must NOT be), it's not right at all to make the smallest type of joke about Johnson's condition... What goes around comes around.. and I find it hard to believe that your a serious fighter if your making a joke about this subject...
as much bitching i did about the ppv costing too much.. i payed my $50 for Barrera and his accuracy. But on the subject, yeah i watched the fight and someone, be it the corner, ref, or commission should have stopped the fight maybe 3 rounds earlier instead of waiting. he took so tremendous punishment and my prayers are with him and his family. This is never good news in our sport. :(
Johnson's corner should have stopped that fight long before the ref. He took a beating from the second round until the eleventh.
What the hell was his corner thinking? Did they really think he could win at that point? It should have been stopped at least three rounds earlier.
